I never saw a home run hit Dead center Street over the hill. I saw one hit just the right side of it but I mean dead center right over the 436 sign not one time that I ever see someone hit on there. Always just a little left-to-right of it
They always saying wasn't for the hill he would catch that ball. In reality if it wasn't for that hill these balls are homeruns in every other major league park except maybe for Fenway.
On that first play, the announcers say over and over that Jones tripped on the hill, dropped the ball because of the hill ... but if you watch the replays, he clearly misses the catch BEFORE he hits the incline. They're saying he dropped it because of the hill because they make the assumption. But his feet are still on level ground at the time the ball goes past his mitt.
In one of the early 2000s All-Star Baseball game’s, if the ball landed on the hill in the air it was a home run. I’ve lived my whole life until now thinking that was how it worked hahaha
Holyshit I never realized that the sick catch Andrew made was JUST AFTER the one he dropped. Holy shit. I thought those were completely separate. That's crazy that back-to-back players hit the ball almost in the exact same spot. Like 420 ft away from home plate and still not a home run
The other teams they play at home use it to their advantage as well. By that logic it gives their division teams unfair advantages too since they play there more. The hill doesnt favor either team it can benefit or cost either one during any play
@@Rams4life94 how is this any different than saying all fields should have the same dimensions so the home team does not get an advantage. Buddy we tried uniform fields in the 80’s and it sucked everyone hated it and every homer looked the same. The only reason Tal’s Hill was removed is because baseball is losing loads of viewership and money every year so the Astros owner wants to make that money back up by adding useless shit, or fan amenities as the owner put it. Like let’s make baseball less interesting and less just fun just so some fuckers at Minute Maid can stuff their fat faces with Torchy’s Tacos. Brilliant move for baseball lmao
I miss how unique baseball stadiums once were. A lot of the new ones are very similar but as a Red Sox fan I’m glad we still have Fenway. Pesky pole and the green monster are beautiful never forget going to Fenway for the first time as a 7 year old and this was before they put seats on the green monster
I was looking forward to visiting Minutemaid Ballpark because of it's extremely unique and retro stadium design. Tal's hill, the short Fenway like wall in left, the original design may have stolen long hits from Home Runs, but it made those same hits fun to watch. Like a Hail Mary pass in football, hits on Tal's hill had just as much of a chance to be inside the park home runs (touchdowns) and triples as they were to be caught (intercepted).
How come The video of Richie Sexson hitting a ball 20 feet up the pole on Tals Hill can't be found? I've been looking for it for a few years now, still nothing...
They removed tals hill so they could put their secret camera in
Ha ha funny
Why in the hell would you put another camera out there when there is already one there.
Love the pitchers reactions when the CF actually catches the ball up there. It's like 'are you kidding me!'
I can see why Evan Gattis had 11 triples and no steals last season.
Sir Stewart Wallace except the majority of his triples werent hit to Tals Hill
Plus he knew what was coming
@@HTXlifer you’re so dumb oml

That hill defined our stadium. Between that and the Boxes, its sad to see it go.
@Charlie Martindale lol stfu that stadium is more iconic than many
The stadium is still a dumpster
Of course they removed it, where else would they put the camera to steal signs?
gonna miss Tal's hill
it's delayed until 2017

the boxes and tal's hill made minute maid so unique. sad that only the boxes are left but that hill will forever be there in the minds of fans
Years and years later I still think about some away team announcer exclaiming "and what's with the hill in center field!!!!"
I love how there’s a warning track for the hill
I will miss Tal's Hill. Their was a lot of amazing catches on that hill. R.I.P Tal's Hill :(
A travesty that this unique stadium feature has been removed. Too many stadiums now are so similar.
Yeah there are too many basic forgettable stadiums
Very true, Let’s Go Astros!!!

So what was the point of having that hill? Just to make it more difficult? It's an interesting idea.
It’s a tribute to early 20th century ballparks that included some terrain in the deep outfield
4:08 did i see hoes?😃
I'm surprised more outfielders didn't crash into the pole on the hill.
Should have added the play where Marwin hit the flag pole and the ball landed in play.
Was there seriously no instance of a player smashing into the pole in its whole history?
Craig Biggio basically face planted on the hill, in the late 90's
