I always took that “9 houses” line as probably the number of houses he lived in as a child, because he said “ 9 houses couldn’t make me feel home….” Like he never felt grounded???
Well he did have his mom who was on drugs and his step dad who beat him so foster care probably
Could be that. I always thought that since he said "held out for the right outlet" that it might have been more like 9 "publishing houses", which I believe was generally a term more used for books than audio, but still conveys the message. As in most of the companies willing to deal with him wanted him to change his style, branding, etc. but he wanted to stay true and not conform to what the industry wants. It wasn't until Capitol came in the picture (held out for the right outlet) that he was able to just "be himself". That's the cool thing about music, you can interpret it multiple ways. Some ways might resonate more with people based on what they've been through.

I think the “6 years” was to set up the bar “6 wouldn’t be enough that wouldn’t come close to the conte t between my ears” playing on the words to also mean six records his 5 albums plus the mixtape
Also… have you ever heard someone refer to the distance between you and what you are trying to accomplish is the 6 inches in between your ears. In other words, your own mind, thought, and fears getting in your way

@@ianthrash mhm i agree also throwback to his NF ep that got him poppin to start which was 2014 and mostlikely he wrote lyrics to clouds in 2020 during covid
at the time though he had mansion, TS, Perception, The Search, CLOUDS, meaning it was 6 years between mansion and CLOUDS, so HOPE would make it 5 records and 8 years of being in the game, not counding his first album, Moments (2010), and his first EP "I'm Free" (2012) and his other EP back in 2014 "NF", it would make a total of 9 records that he put out and approximately 14 years of being in the game.
I think he lived in 9 different houses while growing up but none felt like home, and the 6 years part was likely because this came out 6 years after Mansion. It's fun to try and decipher what he means sometimes. Love your reactions!
Also noticed that whomever put the lyrics to this, got a couple of things incorrect... he certainly did NOT use the 's' word, lol and he said calls and it was put as cars.

Nah the bar doesn’t make sense with your explanation. Why would he have a mouth full of hand soap if he’s _not_ swearing? You’ve misunderstood the bar. Like I said bro, he’s saying he’ll say what he wants regardless of the consequences.
@@TeddyGreyOS it does make sense though. He doesn’t have to swear specifically. It’s about if he says bad things (e.g. swearing), he’ll keep saying what he wants. Washing your mouth out with soap is a very common phrase. Both explanations make sense

I think clean lyrics was what he’s referring to but your thoughts are just as valid since NF likes to have multiple meanings in his lines.
Yeah, that's a very common phrase in the US. NF's mouth isn't full of soap because he's swearing though. It's just saying that his mouth is clean because he doesn't swear. Yet so many people listen to his music and say it feels like he was swearing the whole time, and it isn't until it's over they realize he never did. Similar to what he said in Green Lights "droppin' clean records, but they nasty". He can put out tracks that feel real and nasty, even with a clean mouth. His choice not to swear isn't going to prevent him from saying what he wants to. Some critics say that him not swearing hurts his music, and that it's not a good thing. I think this is his way of addressing that particular criticism. Just my take.
I think the houses thing is a reference to the saying of how a house is not necessarily a home.

I want to point out that when he says recording half of the things I think would take 6 years... ironically from the date that nf released his first studio album Mansion was released on March 31, 2015 and Clouds the mixtape was released on March 26, 2021 which is almost exactly 6 years apart.
Eminem did that in 2013... In “Bad Guy” he says “I been driving around this side of the town like 9 fricking hours and 45 minutes now”, which was the exact length of his entire discography to date.
