Leicester Print Festival 2020 Watch as Leicester Print Workshop technician, artist and tutor Serena Smith takes you through one of the many ways to ink and print a collagraph plate.
I watched this video twice, and the second time I took careful notes. I then followed the instructions and inked up an old collagraph plate I had, one that I had only had modest success printing in the past. This time the print was *perfect*, frame-able. The technique of using trimmed paintbrushes to apply the ink, and putting down a layer of black ink first made for an exceptionally rich result. This has been a turning point in my printmaking. I wish Serena would post more videos (please). One question: vaseline is added to ink (I use Akua) to make a final top layer that doesn't mix with the layers below. I skipped that because the I wasn't sure about how do that. What proportions do you recommend? Thank you so much, if I were in the UK instead of New Zealand I'd be at your workshop.
So glad I came across your video as I am just starting out on my collagraph printing learning. Very helpful and clear video. Thank you.
Very informative and encouraging--there are 'hundreds of ways to ink a collagraph plate'--so calming to know! Thank you!

That was terrific - great informative delivery! Thank you very much.
I fond of printmaking, you can print black on the same colored print
You mention loosening the blue ink with Vaseline. Does this work like extender? May it be used with Caligo safe wash ink?
Too much talking
