He wrote this song devoted to a friend who committed suicide. Makes me cry every time. I've never heard a singer scream out into the universe that he regrets his friends death like this. Heartbreaking

This is actually not Devin Townsend Project DTP. That band has disbanded. This is Devin's album 100%. He hired some guys to play what is in his head exactly the way he hears it. DTP was more of a band that centered around him, but jammed out ideas into songs with him. Devin is an Empath, and has a deep connection to music because he also has synesthesia. He associates certain tones with colors and vice versa. A colorful painting or photograph is music to him as much as his layers in his songs are colors thrown at a canvas. He has publicly been transparent about his depression/bi polar tendencies, and this album "Empath" cost him $170k out of his own money to create. He said if this album tanks, he will lose his home. That's dedication!!!

I highly recommend you check out his entire catalog. The man is a musical genius, and his music varies widely. There is something for everyone. :) Empath, the newest album, is the most beautiful piece of music I have ever heard. I'm not exaggerating in any way.

Ok, it's official. Not only is this already the best album of 2019, but, dammit, of the previous decade. It takes a while for all this diverse madness to sink in, but now that it has..Yep, album of the decade. Or at least in the top 10!

I like this a lot. I feel uplifted. I need to hear more to see what's up. Not what I usually like but a nice change of pace. When I closed my eyes , the music just washed over me like a nice , warm wave. Very comforting. Good choice!

For me, Devin Townsend is a visceral experience similar to Kel's. The picture amplified by the separate instruments, vocals, background vocals, pitch, tempo are all placed in a four dimensional stage surrounding me. I can see a visual in my mind of where they emit their individual ingredients towards their unification of brilliance. The experience is wrought with emotions. Each chorus and chord moves my attention to it's source as if a video is being created by my own impression of it's parts. Kel's reaction only validates my own progression in music where once, I though I was unique. Thank you for your gift madam. Lastly, Devin's unique vocals are only surmounted by his songwriting. Tears were shed here today!

I feel slightly bad that she missed out on the amazing video lol but it's so enriching for the soul to be witness to such pure joy and utter rapture. For my money, this is probably my favourite song of all time since my brother introduced me to it a few days ago. The magic it works in my not-at-all-well brain is just... almost spiritual.
Please, please if you can catch this tour. Was lucky enough to see the very first show in Paris a couple of weeks ago. It will blow you away. Amazing.

Check out “singularity” from this new album by Devin. It’s incredible and unlike anything your have ever heard. It is 23 mins long though so be prepared for that. If you hang in there and follow it, it will blow you away.
Man I struggled with that song at first. So many textures, and so many movements. It has become one of my all-time favorites after repeat listenings though!
I was introduced to this artist and amazing song YESTERDAY!! I got the Empath album on Monday and have been listening to it since. Such a brilliant piece of work! Everytime I listen to a song again, I notice something new. It just has so many layers. There is something on it for everyone. This song definitely stood out with that fantastic chorus. The video really captured the feeling of the song. Devin puts so many extra little details into everything he does. I can't wait to see him in concert in June (acoustic set opening for Avatar).

Empath is hands down album of the year for me. Absolutely beautiful and zany piece of work. I honestly believe this is his masterpiece. The only album I'm anticipating that could come even within range would be Rammstein's new album to drop in May. :)

This whole album is incredible. Lot's of folks talking about the song "Why?", which is absolutely a phenomenal song, but my favorite is "Hear me now". It's fantastically heavy, the kind of thing that just blasts you right in the face, and I loved every second of it. And let's not forget "Singularity"! Oh man, this album is an absolute masterpiece.

I bought this album, holy hell what a fantastic album, although I had no doubt in my mind that it wouldn't be lol.
Devil Townsend, he is! One thing I always pay attention to - as being a guitar player myself - and is a bit distrurbing, is the fact that the dude in the opening scene has never played guitar himself. It shows in the way he holds his hand around the guitar's neck. Please, don't pay attention to it what so ever. It's just me, who's getting a poked in the eye...

This is actually my second time watching this because it is one of my absolute favorite songs and I love your reactions to it. It makes me feel as if I am sharing the experience with friends that share the same feelings I do about it.
No one I know understands music like Devy, Nightwish & Steven Wilson / Porcupine Tree. Your videos helped turn me on to this magic music and I thank you so much for that.
In fact, now that I think about it, I am sure that it was Rich making a comment on the end of a Nightwish reaction about other artists like Dev that led me to the EMG "Kingdom" video that blew my mind and changed my life forever.
