🙋Guilty as well. I knew there shouldn't have been that much play in the hub but I was just happy to ride and now I have to buy a new speedo cable. Stay safe. Thanks for the video!

It happens. As long as you learned from the mistake it wasn't a complete waste. Happy trails brother.

Thanks for the video. I have a '16 KLR which I have replaced the back tire with a Shinko Adventure Trial with which I love. In the dirt it will dig one hell of a trench and on pavement it does well, I don't ride pavement any more then I have to. But I will pay attention to the front wheel placement when I replace my front tire which is on my to do list for next spring. Any suggestions for a mate with my back tire would be much appreciated. I plan on putting the Shinko on my 600 Yamaha too I like that tire so much. Thanks Zach, good information to be mindful of. Keep riding and posting I enjoy you and Scratch a bunch! 👍 PS, I have a video that I am finally satisfied with I want to post but I need a computer that will handle it so that's on my wish list! Lol

Hopefully I'll get a chance to video the full front wheel install before you have to do that. Just FYI, I'm editing video on an older laptop. I just take my time with it plus I'm running Linux and using free open source video editors.
As far as tires I'm really loving the Motoz Tractionator Adventure vs the Shinko 804. Same thing with the rear, The Motoz vs the 805. The rear is noisy on the road, but much better off road. I'll be doing a review soon.

I made a wood dowel/jig for mine, I take the pinion out of the hub and place it correctly on the tab slots, then the drive slides on. The whole lot is then held in place while I fit the wheel. Once in place I use the axle bolt to push out the dowel. Yes I only came up with this after wrecking a hub by incorrect tab placement.

That's a great method and tip for anyone reading the comments.

I just reinstalled the front tire on my 2018 and it does not spin freely when I tighten down the 4 hex fork bolts followed by the axle nut. This is before reinstalling the brake. Any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong?

Tighten the axle first then the pinch bolts. If it's still binding make sure you're not over tightening the axle.

You're welcome. If doing what I mentioned doesn't help there are other things to check. If you continue to have binding email me zachridesyo at Gmail.

Guilty... made that mistake once, quite the “yikes” moment on my part ... that’s one of those misalignments that ya fix real fast or it’ll get a bit costly

You're not alone. I've seen this so much over the years that I had to do a PSA for KLR folks.
