But thank you very much this helps us to be able to use the POD as a standalone effects pedal each within its own assignable parameters and locations. Very much transforming it into a M9 but way cooler. Can't wait to get the bass pack!
@@JonEleyetGuitar it's a pretty amazing boutique amplifier great on its own if you don't plan to use the line 6 Link. I got question can you have one bank with a few pedalboard modes and have another bank with presets made. Ive only made tons of presets but would be cool to have a couple of pedalboards to play around with like my real pedalboard. Thanks and awesome video.very detailed. 👍

Jon, these videos are excellent. I had the H500x for years but it sat in the case for a long time because I just couldn’t figure it out. Your videos are getting me back to discovering the value of this thing. Two questions for you. 1. So, when you play live do you just run the POD directly to the PA with no amp? Or do you run it through an amp live. That part confused me because it seems like running it through an amp would suddenly change the sound of all the presets I’ve created just using the POD. 2. In 2022, do you think this board is still relevant? Or do you think it’s time to upgrade to something more current?
Brilliant video. very clear. sorry including with your monitors you are also using In Ear Monitors as well ? is that what those things are ? thanks so much. cheers Jon
Been watching tons of your videos, they are great, just ordered mine today. I play at my church, when I’m not on the acoustic in the leading position I’m on the lead guitar. Your videos have been awesome. How would you overall rate the line 6 compared to a traditional stomp box set up in the worship setting?
That's awesome to hear! The 500x is awesome to play at church. It's super portable and you can really dial in your settings with all the customizability that it has. I dive super deep into preset mode and make custom presets for each song. Also, I use the built in amp simulators, so when I rehearse at home, I plug headphones into the 500x and I can rehearse with the exact same tones as I use when I play on stage.
Thank you. How long is the lag? If you have more than half a second of lag, you may need to perform a factory reset of your POD. You'll lose all the presets you made, though and will have to remake them. You can also download the Line 6 500x editor software and connect your 500x to a computer. You can save all your presets to the editor software before you perform the factory reset and then load them back on your 500x after the factory reset. Does that help??
Hi Jon, I just purchased my HD500X today and I am not the most tech savvy guy. I am the lead singer in my band and I play guitar, so I need something easy so I dont do a tap dance while I am trying to sing. Just a couple of basic amp sounds and if I am going to add effects go from there. Some songs I start with a clean chorused tone, then go into a distorted sound, and go back to the clean (for example 2nd chance by shinedown) would you recommend pedal board or preset mode? We are also starting to use in ears so I will be running direct into the board. Do you have a certain set up that works best?
Awesome! Congrats on the purchase. I'd recommend using preset mode. That'll keep things simple while you perform. For routing you can either run an XLR from the 500x to the mixer or you can run a short 1/4" cable from the 500x into a DI box.
John in letter mode can You assign midi for amp Channel switching in conjunction with what you showed us? Thank you fo yet again another awesome video!
Thanks Jon! I play in church and just upgraded from the BOSS GT-1 to this pedal board, so it's learning curve with the different operating system, been watching your videos and it's easier than reading the manual. One question, since you play in church, with the Hillsongs type of sound, do you think the AC-30 works better than a Fender type amp?
Use both amps in stereo if your can! As far as I can tell, Nigel Hendroff used AC-30's back in the day. Now, it seems he's using a more Fender-y amp tone.
Question... is there anyway to have the up/down arrows move to the next patch without having to set all the "A's" in different banks as the next patch?
What are the settings on the amp I should use when using preset mode? Also.. I want to keep my clean and crunch sound that is build into my Marshall and bypass the hd500x. How is that accomplished?
What does the FS do in Preset Mode? Seems like a waste if wasn't used for extra preset-switches. EDIT: 14:23 Oh, seems cool to have an extra stomp access for the FS. But yeah, still prefer if they were additional presets.
I know this is an old video and i may not get a reply but i was wondering, when in abcd mode do you lose the ability to turn the last 4 effects w swtiches altogether
Just got mine Friday. So far just got some basic worship tones in preset mode. Do you find it difficult to get good sounds like the people on forums suggest? I'm so new to tone hunting. I think it sounds good but have an untrained ear.
Awesome! Congrats on the purchase. I've had pretty good luck just diving in and making my own tones from scratch. But, I've also had a lot of experience with pedals and pedalboards, so I try to replicate my real pedalboard with the 500x. Do you think it would be helpful if I made a video showing how to program a basic worship patch on the 500x??
@@JonEleyetGuitar I would watch it. I know good sound when I hear it. I think I'm creating decent patches but idk. Its hard for me to know what will sound good and cut through. You have incredible production just so you know!
@@seanc2550 Thanks for the feedback! Sounds like you're on the right track. After you perform, ask the person running the soundboard what they thought of your tone. They may have some helpful tweaks for you. Also, play with other musicians that you trust and ask what they think of your tone and how well it mixed. That should get you going.
I do a preset that covers a few things, I don’t use many effects so I’m able to use the top row of buttons without to much limitation, but I do have presets that are specifically for a certain song when needed.
Bro thank you for this video!!! I subscribed! Exactly what I needed, I bought the HD500x and one of the biggest issues I have is the built in pre amps. I don’t want them, I really love my amps sound (fender hot rod deluxe) I just want the effects. I sold a lot of my analog pedals and wanted to minimize. Literally thinking to myself, I want a processor if only I can use this one just for the effects and customizable. Can’t wait to go home after work, plug it in to the computer and start customizing in stomp box mode as well as preset mode. My biggest issue with the pre existing presets is the fluctuation in volume from effects to effects. 2 questions: 1.) what can I do about volume fluctuation with preset effects 2.) I have a combo amp (FHRD) with an fx loop, should I connect it using the 4 cable method I’ve seen on your other video?
Sweetness! Glad to hear it. I agree, a lot of the presets are all over the place with volume levels. I'd recommend finding a bunch of presets that you like. Turn off the amp models in each one. Reorder them so that they're all together in the same set list. Then, starting with the most quiet preset, add a compressor or overdrive effect (or both) and turn up the output level on them. If you turn the output way up and the drive way down on an overdrive effect, you can get a real nice clean boost. Do this with all the quiet presets that you like. I would assume that the loud presets have a ton of distortion effects on them. You may need to turn the output down on those effects so that the preset volume matches the other preset volumes. I really wish that the 500x had a way to normalize the volumes of all the presets. So, that no matter which preset you pull up, the 500x would automatically adjust the volume level. Oh well, I guess I have to wait until Line 6 consults with me to design their next multi-effect pedal:) As far as the effects loop goes, you probably don't need to worry about it, unless you really want your delay and reverb to be super clean. When I run actual amps, I just plug my board straight into the front of the amp. I kinda like it when the delay and reverb trails get all gnarly sounding from the amp's overdrive. Good luck, man!
Jon Eleyet thanks again for all the advice I’m going to do everything you just said, I really like Son of Plexi but the volume jumps up too much. I wish a company out there made a decibel regulator so no matter what effects or processors you’re using the sound gets regulated to the same output. There’s a million dollar idea right there! P.s. there’s this guy Glenn DeLaune who makes pod 500 patches, I purchased his “Artist” bundle and wow... this guy put a lot of time into perfecting sounds you should check it out. His Slash and his Santana are on point he even has a patch set for CLEAN amps, which address this whole volume issue. For guys like us who want to plug in directly to an amp, it’s his own patches volume controlled for only $10 for a bunch of them. I will buy that one this week, still messing around with the Artist patch I highly recommend you check out his TH-cam video demos. Great investment. Keep doing what you’re doing I’m watching all your videos daily
Yeah, the 500x does a true dotted 8th. It works perfect with the tap tempo. I had an HD300 a while back and I remember that it couldn't do dotted 8th. I would literally use a calculator to figure out which BPM would give a dotted 8th delay on the HD300😂
Jon, I dove into this and created some great models. I do have one question though: I have a compressor and tube screamer that I have individually assigned to FS1 and FS2. Is it possible to take those two existing pedals and assign them both to turn on with FS4 without removing the FS1 and FS2? I would like to have the ability to turn them on individually and both at the same time. Every time I tried to assign both to FS4, it erased the previous settings. When I put new pedals in with the same settings and assigned them to FS4, it sounded terrible. Thanks!
Hey, John! Although you can assign multiple effects to the same footswitch, you can't assign more than one footswitch per effect. My recommendation would be to keep them assigned separate to FS1 and FS2, but turn your foot sideways and click both footswitches at the same time to turn them both on/off.
Is there a way to utilize the volume pedal without losing an effect slot? My board is set in pedalboard mode and I have to switch on fs1 for the pedal to act as a volume pedal. If so, would that allow me 8 effects plus the volume pedal?
Yes! But, it's a little complicated. Put the cursor over the amp, double click the 'move' button, select 'volume' under the parameter tab and select either 'exp 1' or 'exp 2' under the controller selection. That way, you're literally controlling the amp volume.
Hi Jon, is there a way I can exchange patch destinations (Example I want the 1D Preset to be replaced by 3A, vice versa. 1D making it as 3A and the old 3A now in 1D) Tried the patch destination via the Save button but didn't exchange patch destination rather it overwrite the patch and duplicates. Heeeelp! Trying to do this bec of the preceeding patches in between the certain patch I want to transfer patch dest
Yeah totally! Press the 'presets' knob to see your setlists. Select the setlist you want with the 'enter' button. Then double click the 'enter' button to show the presets in that setlist. Then use the arrows to find the preset you want to move and press the 'move' button. Use the arrows to move the preset to a new spot then press 'move' to lock the preset into the new spot. Then move the other preset into the spot that you want it. Let me know if this works for you!
You can totally use just the effects. Move the cursor over the amp model. Then turn the knob counter-clockwise until the amp model is removed. That will remove the amp model entirely. Otherwise, you can move the cursor over the amp model and press the enter button. That will disable the amp model, but not remove it. That way you can re-enable the amp model later when you're not playing through a real amp.
This unit is awesome……except…..the fact that you only can program the bottom row as presets is a HUGE disadvantage. Why couldn’t they allow the top row to ALSO be programmed as presets?
But u need a good player to really get good impressions. And no body on TH-cam is testing these out who can play. I mean come on u need a kick ass lead player.

2.) I have a combo amp (FHRD) with an fx loop, should I connect it using the 4 cable method I’ve seen on your other video?
Oh well, I guess I have to wait until Line 6 consults with me to design their next multi-effect pedal:)
As far as the effects loop goes, you probably don't need to worry about it, unless you really want your delay and reverb to be super clean.
Keep doing what you’re doing I’m watching all your videos daily
u can use the pod in the 4 cable method - only for fx. best of both worlds!
HD500 user for years. Would love to know your process for setting preset volumes..this takes me forever it seems to dial in using preset mode
Yeah, it's too bad there's not a way to normalize or set a batch of presets to the same level.
hi there! its best to start from scratch, without referring to any preset. just select an amp of ur choice and build ur chain
Can you have multiple reverbs, let's say you wanted a row of all reverbs is that possible?
Do it!
Can u share your presets on LeaD Sir? Thanks
Does the 500x have dotted 8th delay? Like. True dotted 8th?
Jon Eleyet sage advice! That’s going to take practice to make sure I don’t fall over!! Thank you sir!
Thanks for asking this question. Just got my Pod and was wondering why I couldn’t have that extra effect slot.
Thanks Jon! It worked!!!
Bоss gt 100 или hd 500x взять?
Can I use this method to POD Hd500??
Think they're mostly identical, other than DSP improvement, footswitches, and some other components.
can cabinets be used on this?
Sir , Can I connect with you more ? About tones and Connection ? Please Reply
Rajib, I have been using hd500x for many years ... perhaps we could have a chat?
Can someone tell me if I can just use effects or do you have to have an amp in the signal chain ? Thanks in advance for help!
Thanks for your PROMPT help , and sharing all this great info!
I hate that each company call that preset/bank/memory/scene/patch differently
This unit is awesome……except…..the fact that you only can program the bottom row as presets is a HUGE disadvantage. Why couldn’t they allow the top row to ALSO be programmed as presets?
Preset mode will be more utilitarian.
But u need a good player to really get good impressions. And no body on TH-cam is testing these out who can play. I mean come on u need a kick ass lead player.
This is like such a like pedalboard like like like like like....
