I read in Waldners biography that this is one of his hardest match that he lost mentally. And after this he trained hard to be better in the backhand play, and so he did and took revenge at the summer olympics in Barcelona same year.He also said he never trained so hard before a tournament as he did before the Olympics.

When Waldner was asked when he was the most nervous during a match in his professional career, he said that is was probably during this 1992 euro-championship match against Primorac. Waldner would get revenge in the 1994 Euros and then again in the 1997 worlds when he destroyed Primorac 3-0

I find it amazing that Primorac evidently had almost zero trouble returning Waldner's famously deceptive serves.

Pulling a good serve is difficult. As stated somewhere here Waldner admitted to have been very nervous in this game so maybe his serves were weaker than usual.

damn i miss 38mm ball and speed glue era. The game had more aesthetics then. 74persson you are a HJÄLTE to put out these old clips. It is really a Privilege to take a little part in your treasures.

Primorac played without fear unlike waldner in the final set. Waldner is an eternal legend though.

I missed legal speed gluing, hidding serves and 38mm ball by some years :(

hiding serve should have never been legal, how are you meant to read the service with out seeing the contact? I've played table tennis for my university and several teams and I can honestly say I probably wouldn't play if hiding service contact was legal. You would just be making an educated guess on what the spin is

@@epic1053 Basically you are right, but the problem I see with the regulation today is that there is no real way to control it for the umpire. Even on super slow motion it is often impossible to judge if a service was legal. Back then when hiding was legal nobody had a reason to complain. Today there is a lot ado about the legality of services, and a feeling of injustice fills the air all the time.

@@NoSpeechForTheDumb yes currently there is a problem with hiding serves the umpire is not in the same position as the person receiving the serve so it is very easy for hidden serves to not be noticed by the umpire hense many people now get away with cheating but I still think it's alot better than everyone hiding the service

@@epic1053 Perfectly acceptable opinion. I rather think that laws which cannot be controlled should generally be changed or banned, because otherwise people who don't admit to those laws get an unjust advantage. I played TT in lower german leagues for 25 years but recently stopped, amongst other things because I don't have any more desire for all the stupid discussions about the legality of serves. This is a big problem in lower leagues specifically, because there are no impartial umpires.

@@NoSpeechForTheDumb maybe further restrictions are required so that its fully enforable like your free hand must immediately be by your side after throwing the ball up so that it's more cut and dry. Its a shame how common of an issue this is.

No, never. At least not in a significant tournament.

But he was a real talent, as you can see in combating other great table tennis players. Talking about screaming , what do you say about Tomokazu Harimoto ? Only M Sharapova (from field tennis)screams lowder. Is him ok?
