My grandmother introduced me to the beautiful Barbra Streisand with hello dolly the movie and I have never looked back. I'm 48 now and I feel like if I'm having a bad day she lifts me up or if I'm feeling romantic she soothes my soul. She is unique and versatile so talented in her work with music but also acting. Long live Barbra she's a gift that keeps on giving xx
After 40 years, I heard this song again and my knees buckled. It had so much emotion it brought me immediately back to my first real love. 40 years in the moment of this gorgeous song and singer...
I absolutely hear you. I feel the same about my now ex....how I miss him and wish...well you know. However my present day partner is very very good to me Jane I hope you keep smiling even though!!
I agree but Barbra can belt very big too. Listen to the last note of "Before the parade passes by", you can't belt bigger than that. The thing is : she does it when it's called for. Barbra can sing loud, soft and every nuances in between. No one control the dynamics as she does, with no breaks or change in the voice.
@@sharonsparks900 omg - celine dion's voice is nowhere as near as pure and beautiful as streisand's. dion can wail higher and does more r&b but her tone is awful.
The lyric is so perfectly wedded to the melody. It's practically a perfect song. Barbra of course the best - goes without saying. I love Barbra, always have, always will. I wish she would call me.
I often wonder why he came to me Brought such a flame to me Then let it die And if another love should find my heart It will remind my heart of your goodbye With every new love You'll come back to me In other eyes it's you I see If I love again Though it's someone new If I love again It will still be you In someone else's firm embrace I close my eyes but see your face If I love again I'll find another charms But I'll make believe You are in my arms And though my lips whisper "love me!" My heart will not be true I'll be loving you Every time i love again...
I LOVE this! My favorite version has always been the one directly from the movie, with the full orchestra at the end, and you managed to do this beautifully without the dialogue! Excellent

The audio here is sped up just a tad. Listen to it on her YT channel and you'll hear what I mean. I've listened to this song countless times since 1975. I'm absolutely sure of it.
Kym Kantaris Same here. My heart was SO devoted to my sadistic Narcissistic tormentor with a mask that mesmerizes and the silver tongue of the Devil. 💔 👹
Nice edit with removing the beginning and ending movie dialog which are a distraction for this beautiful song. The film version is the only one with the short string orchestration at the end. Plus it is an alternate version since most of it was filmed LIVE on the studio soundstage for the film - then it changes to a studio/orchestration ending (while she's walking with Omar Sharif). The original studio recorded versions are on the LP and CD is just with the piano. There is also alternate vocal and piano version on the Quad LP that was released in 1975.
This is very nice indeed. Anybody out there know the 1956 version by Clifford Brown and Max Roach from "Study In Brown"? And now for something completely different!
Personally I love the version on the CD/album. I think the phrasing is better and more tender. Maybe it's because she is angry when filmed - as you mention this Jeff. It's also one of the few tracks Barbra has recorded with only piano. Barbra if you can hear me... how about a collection of just you and the piano. Sigh. That would be perfection with a cherry on top!!
You are the only one who noticed Joe, I love it!!! Cause I didn't want to just put the film clip there, I didn't want the dialogue-which I know by heart by the way lol so I used the soundtrack version, for the beginning and the end. The editing could have been better though. It's not bad, but definitely not perfect.
She originally recorded this live but Herbie Ross, as Barbra liked to call him, did another take because the camera movement was making noise. So they did it again so she could lip sync.
Inan Raeder I love Tony Bennet's live 1964 "If I ruled the world." I wish Barbra would sing it too. Saw her in Vegas....still amazing. And wish she had done this my favorite. Thanks cousin for getting the tickets.
How come Funny Lady is on Arista and not on her home label Columbia? Is it because Columbia thought Funny Lady was too old fashioned and wanted Barbra to be associated with rock?
My take has always been that Clive Davis somehow finagled Barbra and Columbia into allowing her to be on his new label after being fired as head of CBS Records (Columbia's parent). Arista was launched as a label associated with Columbia Pictures, which was also a subsidiary of the then all-important, giant CBS Network. So it was sort of an all-in-the-family, you-scratch-mine/let's-play-nice type of in-house arrangement. That's my take at least.
After seeing Funny Girl 29 times in a theatre in Buffalo i was so thrilled for Funny Lady...Barbra did not disappoint. 😢
My mom and❤️ I went to see Funny Lady. So long ago.
One of my favorite Barbea moments on screen: her hairdo, singing in her beautiful voice, in front of a glass piano. Ugh. Im dead its so good.

Her voice is the prettiest I have ever heard…others may have bigger belts, but none comes
close to the the pure beauty of her voice

One of THE best recordings of a song EVER, sublime, beautiful, timeless ❤. I love Barbra!
This is my number one song from the full movie is sounds so gentle sweet smooth
Sublime! You don't always have to belt out a song! This is actually a harder song to sing.
Perfection. I love her phrasing in this song so much.
At the end when the strings come, I die a little, every time.
She and Sinatra, both geniuses when it comes to phrasing. No comparisons.
Just Barbra and the piano ... it doesn't get any better than this.
richard fouts I agree totally....pure unadulterated genius, talent....perfection.
I agree!
Quelle douceur !!
She doesn’t play the piano.
obviously. He didn't say she was playing the piano, he said Barbra AND the piano.
Omg
This song goes straight to my heart ❤️!
Thank you Barbra.
Such a beautiful song, brilliantly performed.
My husband passed, this song makes me cry. I will never love another like I loved him.
Love you Barbra 💖
I love Barbra and just the piano. They are one. I love love love this clip.
I adore this song, so touching and so true...
Yes
So beautiful✨Her voice is perfection in this song. Perfection period! She's so uniquely beautiful! That profile!
She reminds me of my mother. I love her like a mother we grew up with her. Even though we never met.
Speechless. A talent beyond compare.
Beautifully said
How could anyone give this a thumbs down? What a voice!
In her prime nobody, but nobody, could come close to this woman’s voice. And that includes Celine Dion.

Golden voice. And the scene on the polo field is the Will Rogers Estate in Malibu, beautiful and open to the public (or that was pre-COVID).
I love Barbara Streisand and all of her work.
Perfectly beautiful.
Sheer perfection is Barbra. Forever and always.

Agree, Tom! Absolutely Beautiful! No one will ever sound like Streisand!

David Altieri I agree David. Its arrangement is simple, its lyrics plaintive and for me the song is sadly true.
I miss singing this song. Watched this movie several times. Barbra you are the best!
At the end when the strings come in, I die a little, every time.
i have always thought that this song along with isnt this better from the same movie , is one of miss streisand's best collaborations, just a thought
