- IN the hopes of finding ice in this crazy mild to a winter Steve and myself made a drive north in search of this frozen water. After a few hours we got where we wanted to be to begin our search. With minnows and lines in tow we ventured out onto some thin ice in hopes of catching an early ice giant. Our two day adventure was full of laughs and so many fish I hope you enjoy!
In my videos I target trophy game fish species from all across Canada. Focusing in Quebec and Ontario, fishing from the boat, on the Ice as well as days on the bank in the most secluded to the most Urban spots Canada has to offer. I biggest give away to tell the difference is the tail lake trout have a very deep V in its tail and splake have a more even V shape tail more like a U almost
So would you say this was a large female splake then. The lake is only supposed to have splake in it. But I know fish have gotten into the wrong tanks at the hatchery so I thought it was possible for it to be a laker as well.
As much as u think it's lake witch I might think it is I think it's a splake just cause of the color but the tail really never lies so going with splake but everyone's different and different techniques. Right 😊
@@CastandConquerstocking mistakes happen every once in a while, I’ve personally dumped 500 lakers in a splake lake because someone misread the lake title. 99% sure that was a lake trout. Never have I seen a splake with that deep of a V tail.
Same as I thought as well
Nice video. We were just at this lake two weeks ago.
We did ok, nothing large. But lots of action
Too fkn funny. Steve, what kinda set was that. It's not a 20 lbs pike. That second yank looked like the line was only 2 inches in the water. But i've been there done that as well buddy. Nice day of fishing boys.
Steve is a unit hahaha. I think we have all gotten excited and done those hook sets.
Oh yeah them dam suckers are a pain in the ass here in b.c. some ppl just throw em on the bank for the eagles and other birds to eat. They don't get kept to eat cause there just to boney and they dont give the rainbows a good chance to hatch after the spawn. Well that's what i heard anyway
I should of kept it for future bait for pike fishing in the spring.
100% laker. Makes it even cooler to see em up so dang shallow!
That’s what I was thinking too, 6’ of water is pretty shallow for them for sure.
Nice, you going to make a video with that crazy Asian?
Hope to have Taros and my video together up tomorrow. I think Taro is putting his out tonight or tomorrow as well.
Looking forward to it! Nice sucker by the way!
Danggg some nice trout action there! I’d have said that was a Laker but my understanding is that lake has only ever had Splake. Regardless nice fish! Yea is for sharing 🙌
Same as I thought. Shouldn’t have lakers in there but doesn’t look like any splake I ever saw.
Excellent video & beautiful catches. Glad I came across your channel. NEW SUBSCRIBER 😎 🎣
Thanks for the sub! Hope u enjoy all the content
Good stuff! I’m from all the way up north so we get lots of ice! It seems more fun going on road trips and hunting fishable ice! 😂
I love the first ice trips chasing the ice. Always a fun way to start the hardwater season. We are just like 2-3 weeks over due now. We should have ice.
Wow... I've ice fished this lake more time than any other lake. Wonderful little spot! I should show you where the big fish are!!
The red pine point on the right side or over the deep water in the centre of the lake is always amazing. With ice conditions the way they were we were very limited though.
I upgraded to the 9000 heat hog. Haven’t used it yet, but who ever designed them certainly did an amazing job.
They for sure thought about the design and angler when they were making them that’s for sure.
Good stuff. I can’t wait for a good freeze here in renfrew. Rain has kicked our butts lately
If u go west past deep river towards Bissets creek or Bancroft area there is ice up that way
Ya that first fish had to be a laker never seen a splake look like that ever but great fish either way!
Kinda what I thought as well. But the lake isn’t supposed to have lakers is what threw me off.
I actually caught a sucker trout fishing too . Same type of sucker. In north bay area
This was in bissets creek area so not far from you. Was such a surprise catch when you are expecting a trout lol
Good ole Alan’s bait an tackle. Always get my minnows there.
The best place for bait in the Valley
Got to bring reels into truck or inside house at night to dry out for next day. I caught a 27 in Landlock 6 feet under ice and reel was yanking on tipup because it was frozen from day before. Had pulled 15 feet of line so had automatic reel set because line was frozen into tip up reel. LoL 😂
Ya the reels didn’t enjoy the minus twenty in the tent all night that’s for sure. They come inside now
West of ottawa northern Ontario? lol
Calm down
@@taylord9772 I know it’s all good. I grew up in the valley. It’s just north from where I am now
@@CastandConquer right on, I grew up outside of ottawa, I moved to nw Ontario (Kenora) years ago, the fishing here is insane, u should take the trip up sometime
That rainbow had some beautiful colors! nice catches congrats!
Thanks a lot! It was a stunning rainbow.

@@CastandConquer if you ever come up to Sudbury let me know I’d be happy to put you guys on fish if I’m available!
@raginguthixx I’m thinking of maybe making a trip that way maybe in two weeks.
That big splake looked so nice. What a surprise catching that sucker!!
Your reaction to Steves hookset gave me a good laugh😂.
Beautiful rainbows to close off!
Awesome video!!
