Hi, good vlog! As a retired carpet layer. Here’s a little advice. When using Stanley knives, sharpen the blades with a sharpening stone. It'll save you a fortune. Also, if you cut your finger, don't use masking tape. Use superglue.
Of all the van builds ive watched on youtube yours is the best shaun so helpful and concise. This series truly deserves to blow up viewers wise but who knows if the almighty YT algo will do
I had to do that when I bought my house. Former owner was a smoker and I had to scrub the ceiling with sugar soap and give it two coats of one coat paint so it looked good.
About 10 years ago I converted a RM Convoy crew cab for my brother. The box section was filled with expanding foam after we found the box along the roof section contained the wiring for lights and aux power for internal lighting, we put in rock wool and it didn't stop the wiring rattling inside the section, so we used the foam and problem solved. That roof cladding is the same as I did, and was the hardest part of the build tbh, although we had a skylight and fan to go around.... excellent viewing 👍🏻
20 minutes to do all that, amazing. I bet you wish it did only take 20 minutes in real life. It looks amazing, what a tidy job. Looking forward to the next video.
Brilliant tips Shaun, although the furniture is half already done and in storage I’m right at this point on the build so it was great to have a few extra tips be for the vinyl goes down 👍🏼👏🏼
Wow Shaun! It looks beautiful! I’m so impressed with your van building skills! Can’t wait to see the finished version! Excellent job! Looking forward to next week! Cheers!
Great to see more of your van - you make it so clear and easy to understand, thanks for this van build mini-series! Looking forward to seeing the next episode - hope you have managed to fit in some time in the sea too!
Have you ever thought of adding (if possible) a popup camper top to either of the vans? The extra space (bed) would be helpful as your kid gets older and wants to go camping.
You make it look so easy that your show reminded me of watching "This Old House". Long story short I did and never again so long story short if I ever buy a camper it will be built by somebody like you. Cheers!
Great idea to use the veltrim for the door cards and visible metal. I am currently adapting a previously boarded Trafic crewcab, and wondered how I could tidy up around the rear doors, so thanks for the idea. I look forward to part 3, and have subscribed :)
Great videos, you have a new subscriber. As a total novice can I ask at around the 17/18 minute mark when you are screwing the batons on the roof. What are you screwing into? Also do you use normal wood screws or a specialist type of screw?
Just a tip for people wanting to do the same cladding and not have to pay for 20 slats.. It definitely takes 16 slats to go across a Vivaro and B&Q only do packs of 5 but if you have a local timber merchant (I went to Alsford Timber) they are happy to sell slats singly.
I hate the step on my renault trafic its always full of crap and I like door open if its a light rain so I expect rust at some point. The design of it just so bad you cant just neatly sweep shit out the door it catches and I leave the plastic insert off all the time because of the cleaning schedule. That carpet and glue really gives good results btw.
I was really worried for your health seeing you spraying without a mask, especially that close. The van progress is looking great! even though you spread out the days, damn you work fast lol. I'm hoping to get my first van this Summer, I'll definitely be using your videos for tutorials on a lot of aspects. Thanks mate!
Loving these videos as I'm doing a van build myself at the moment (a Vivaro) Just curious as to how you fixed the battens to the ceiling? I'm considering either nutserts or plastic screw rivets using existing holes in the frame
Hi there, this is really helpful stuff but for the benefit of newbies like me, can you tell me what sort of screws you use to fix the wood to the metal please 😅
You done a great job so far on that build 👍 it looks fantastic 😊. Shame you didnt get the crease out of that wheel arch, you should of punched it out 👊😂. Loving these vids 😊x
Little tip for you, mate. Did you know that there is a wireless reverse camera helfords and Amazon do them. It's just something I learned after I did my bmw
Pop into ur local carpet shop. You'll probably get it for free. All the shops have so much lying around, and even old sample books of carpet can be used!!
These videos are amazing! I was wondering though, if you’re screwing directly into metalwork is there not a danger of corrosion over a long time frame? Or is it not as much as an issue as I think
I’ve never had any issues with crewing into the frame of the van. If your van is already Plymouth lined when you remove it you’ll see that the holes are a little rusty mainly on the floor but it very rarely causes any structural problems.
Just a quickie....I see you didn't vapour barrier over the fluffy insulation, is that OK to do? I ask because I am doing a build and didn't know if I really needed to or not?
I used the same insulation on my transit (the build before this one) and I out a vapour barrier on that one. Dodo mat who I got the insulation from said the liner insulation works instead of a vapour barrier.
You can hire tools but if you stick to the same brand you can pick them up fairly cheap as it’s the batteries that cost the money and the batteries work on all the tools from the same brand. Jigsaw drill circular saw all the same battery

Thanks for the tips Henry
3:34 nice solvent hood really concentrates those fumes 😆

Thank you
I got recommended it!
Two coats of Dulux One Coat! That’s full on beast mode.
I had to do that when I bought my house. Former owner was a smoker and I had to scrub the ceiling with sugar soap and give it two coats of one coat paint so it looked good.
Solvent Spray, "do as i say, and NOT do as i do" sweet job Shaun!

You make this look so easy. It’s looking great
Think about what hes doing off camera
Thank you
The van build is coming along beautifully! Well done Shaun!
Thank you
nice video, a tip for cutting the felt trim is to use a hot soldering iron, cuts through it like butter and leaves a nice edge
20 minutes to do all that, amazing. I bet you wish it did only take 20 minutes in real life. It looks amazing, what a tidy job. Looking forward to the next video.
Thank you! 😊
These videos are a Godsend. I make good money but am always worried about the future. Building something like this should bring me some peace of mind
Adding in the vinyl flooring really brought it to life. Can't wait for next weeks electrical installation ;)
Thank you
Brilliant tips Shaun, although the furniture is half already done and in storage I’m right at this point on the build so it was great to have a few extra tips be for the vinyl goes down 👍🏼👏🏼

@@LoveSundays thanks Shaun
I saw a hack the other day where they used a soldering iron to cut the auto carpet. Worked a treat.
Looking great mate. Cheers Matt from Australia 🇦🇺

Great video Shaun. I'm sure the bits where it doesn't always go to plan are very funny!!( a bit off effin and jeffin.)
This is great. You make it look so simple! Thank you for sharing the knowledge.
Roof has came out real neat 👍🏼👍🏼
Cheers
Thank you for the video just in time. I’m about to put the carpet on mine so now I know I have to do it cheers mate.

Looking really good, you should think about setting up a business converting vans
You are doing a brill job shaun well done 👍
❤Phil/Tina x
Thank you
For episode 1 and 2: splendid!
You are an awesome guy. I wouldn't even attempt doing that.
Thank you
It’s going to look lovely, I’ve got to ask what is the song you use in your videos, I can’t seem to find it, 👍👍
Which one?
It’s on this video around 15minutes in, it sounds like there singing “I’m on fire” I could be wrong tho, 😂
Great video well done.. hurry up with the next one!!
So much easier building a smaller van when the weather is better
Fantastic DIY job, Wish i had the money to buy and insure a van..))
super tidy, amazing work
That view you have is incredible, dunno how I've only just noticed it 😂

Loving theses videos. Hopefully do something similar one day 🤞
You should!
Coming along quite nicely.
should have used some gaffer tape over that opening on the column as it would have given some body for the carpet to stick to
Good idea
You make it look so easy
Loving these videos as I'm doing a van build myself at the moment (a Vivaro)
Just curious as to how you fixed the battens to the ceiling? I'm considering either nutserts or plastic screw rivets using existing holes in the frame
Looking great,electris are my headache
Loving this van and your amazing with you work keep up the good work ❤
Great job so far buddy 😮😊
Where did you run the wiring for the lights from/to? Lovely couple of episodes these 👍🏻
Wires for lights ran down the middle of the ceiling across to the pillar behind the drivers seat and down to the floor
Another cool video cheers shaun
Well Done shaun
Thank you
Amazing job.
Thank you! Cheers!
Hi there, this is really helpful stuff but for the benefit of newbies like me, can you tell me what sort of screws you use to fix the wood to the metal please 😅

You haven't put in a vapour barrier which some other builders recommend. Any reason why not please ?
I put a vapour barrier in my last build but when speaking to dodo mat when I ordered my insulation they said it wasn’t needed.
@@LoveSundays thanks for that
A "Hook"blade really helps with trimming carpet and vinyl.
Good advice
Vans coming along nicely Shaun, really taking shape. No draw this week for the Amazon voucher? 😊
No draw this week as I ran out of Amazon money but it will be back soon
I've always wondered about a hammock as a budget bed option in a camper?
Little tip for you, mate. Did you know that there is a wireless reverse camera helfords and Amazon do them. It's just something I learned after I did my bmw
Looking great

You Make it look so quick and easy 😂
Good work! No vapour barrier this time?
Morning Shaun. Wow mate that vans looking good mate well done, don’t get the ceiling wrong mate because your dad will on your case if you do 😂😂
Bish Bash Bosh WALLLAH! Living the dream man. Great Job!
🌏🧡👍
Sorry to tell you mate, but it’s way cooler than your other van already 😆
looking good 👍
Thanks 👍
Pop into ur local carpet shop. You'll probably get it for free. All the shops have so much lying around, and even old sample books of carpet can be used!!
Floor carpet? For the walls? Is that a joke? 😂
@LoveSundays no joke, I'm a floor fitter, there's plenty of durable floor carpets that can be put on roof or side, cheap cheerful and comfy 😀

Hi Do you just screw the little back ceiling batons and the top ones onto the bare metal? How do they attach? Thank you😊
Drill a small hole along the metal struts on the ceiling of the van then screw the wood straight up
Great video mate, the tips with the carpet plus wood slats on roof were very helpful, can you hire the tools needed for the job or do you have to buy?
You can hire tools but if you stick to the same brand you can pick them up fairly cheap as it’s the batteries that cost the money and the batteries work on all the tools from the same brand. Jigsaw drill circular saw all the same battery
