Wow thank you! I was consistently getting an error around +6 to +8 and I think it's because I added padding to that stopper at the bottom. I can't wait to level the scope vertical and try again this weekend!
BTW, I also subscribed to your channel. As you are so detailed and logical in your explaination. Only part missing in your video was a live view or some images through this telescope. Hope you can do Part II of this video. That will be very useful to new buyers to set realistic expectations with this DOB.
I've actually left this scope up at the family mountain cottage (much darker skies there). Next time I'm up there in a couple months I plan to do more of a "review" type video with some actual pictures/video from the scope now that I can use the ASIAIR to capture all of that. Stay tuned!
Great guide. For troubleshooting, good call out on the encoders… if the bolts aren’t screwed in far enough, they might not read the scope’s position properly.
Good morning. Another point that happened to me that may be interesting. I found that the Teflon pads were too "small" and "sticky" when rotating. So I replaced them with wider ones, except that it appeared that the pads have a very precise thickness, so if the magnet is too close or too far, the encoder does not understand the data and makes errors huge. I also had the problem of the magnet wheel which was a little broken. I was able to find a new one (which is almost impossible in Europe since Orion is unfortunately no longer distributed here). Other, when you do your pointing, you defocus at the beginning but you re-focus afterwards I imagine?
An awesome overview, thanks, this was helpful. Another thing that would help is an eyepiece with a reticle. My only question: Does the scope need to be level?
Thanks! Yes a reticle would make things more precise. No, it doesn't need to be level. Obviously it can't rock back and forth, but as long as it's stable you're good to go.
Great video. im looking into my first scope and seeing a few of these used on Facebook. Would $500.00 be a deal for the 10 with the controller and some eyepieces. Or sould i start with the base xt6 or xt8 used for around $200.00-$300.00
Just saw your video today, excellent. One thing to ask: why several hours later, you aligned it again? Does that mean, if you observe for long time one time, you should align again after some time because it has no auto tracking system, right?
@@maxguerryastro3076 Thanks for the quick response. Would that also be true if you left the telescope in the same position and came back two hours later? If so, one should become very skilled at this alignment process.
Great video! Thank you so much. Before I purchase this Dob, I am still left with a few questions: 1) Do you need to do Polar Alignment at all? If you do, does it help in your W-Value?; 2) Do you have a live view or a photo of some DSO like the Galaxy M51 through this scope? I really want to know how good it looks through this.; Will Barlow help the magnification?; 3) Have you used any tracking platform for this DOB? Thanks in advance for your quick response. - Vinay Bhatt from Austin, Texas.
Thanks Vinay! 1) No polar alignment needed at all. Just align as shown in the video, nothing else. 2a) I do actually have some live videos of Saturn, Jupiter and The Moon. No nebulae or galaxies unfortunately. Will post what I have as shorts when I get some time later this week so you can see. And will try and get some galaxies etc when I get a chance might be a while looking at the forecast :( 2b) Not a huge fan of Barlows myself. Adding more glass in front of the eye is not a recipe for clearer viewing, particularly since the provided eyepieces are fine but nothing special. Better to use a more zoomed in eyepiece if you want magnification (like the 6mm one in the description, which I strongly recommend!) You'll get much crisper viewing and the cost is similar to a good barlow. 3) Never done any tracking. I have my refractors and equatorial mount if I want to take long exposure photos. Unless it's a goto dob, tracking is more trouble (and cost) than it's worth. Much better to get a small refractor for that. 4) If you're thinking of buying this scope please use my link in the description. Thanks and let me know if you have any other questions!
Help! I recently purchased an Orion xt10 intelliscope and am having issues with the push to feature. I am able to calibrate with a great warp factor, less than 1, but when I try to move to an object it does not register the tube moving at all. Any one have this issue?

Sounds very likely to be the issue. Let me know how it goes…

Yep this is all from personal experience of my own screw ups. Always hoped they'd be for a reason!
Damn that was extremely helpful and informative, thank you!!

Thank you for your help and I appreciate you Sir
Thanks for the feedback. Happy it helped. 👍
Hi, I just bought the xt12i but haven’t received yet, do you think is a good purchase or do you recommend another one? Thanks
You will love it! I’m very jealous. The 12” will be able to see some incredible things. Congratulations on the purchase 👍🤤
How much did you pay? New or used? Thanks.
Do you have to do the alignment process every time you take the telescope out for viewing or is it a one time exercise
Every time 👍

Did you use a NexYZ Smartphone Adapter to do this?
