    You know the best thing about Burnie is that he is legitimately interested in people's lives, not like in the deceitful way most people have where they ask people about their life when they don't actually care, just to be more 'personable'.

    Still one of the best let's plays on the channel, all these years later. The recent content is good and I still watch, there's just something about this video that has me coming back to it every now and then. It might be nostalgia at this point, but it doesn't make this video any less good, or make me feel any less melancholy at the end of the video.

    I have the same mentality as Ray when it comes to smoking and drinking. I've tried different drinks, but I would never like to get drunk and possibly blackout or become hungover. My family also has a history of alcoholism, and I don't want to go down that road and throw my life away. The smell of smoke alone makes me gag, I will never try that.
    I am in college right now, and so many people have the mentality that you are not living the college experience unless you go out and party. That is not true at all. I personally would rather stay at home playing games or hanging out with friends and family instead of having to stand a bunch of drunken idiots. That's just not my lifestyle. Some people may call it boring, but I don't mind. It's my choice.

I'm not saying he was better as a person, he just has a comprehensive grasp on game mechanics, picks up new ones very quickly, and methodically grinds at a game until it's given him everything it has.

    What I like about this game is that you could be playing with anyone and neither of you have any idea who each other is. You don't know their name, where they're from, their phobias, whether they're a necrophiliac taxidermist or Misha Collins. You just don't know. You just have to work together and don't even have to get to know one another.

    i really enjoyed the conversation between these two in this lets play. any videos you guys suggest like this one where the conversation is more than humor and the game itself? don't get me wrong, I love all of the lets plays. however this one was very laid back, got more into the backgrounds of the commentators and had a lot of interesting conversation.

      Not being a fan of the channel or the people who work on it (not saying I hate them. Just saying I don't know them), it's kind of frustrating for me to watch cause since they don't talk about the game, it's not as engaging to watch. There's a game being played, and they only talk about it once in a while, and in very short instances. I guess I should go to a different channel, but shouldn't they do a podcast separately if they're going to spend NINETY percent of this talking about their work? It feels like the game is irrelevant here.

    • @pjshaw4797
      @pjshaw4797 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fair point, fair point. From what i've heard of game grumps, they do a similar thing where it's not mostly about the game, so there is some kind of demand for that sort of content. also, game time is the only series I know of that's this sort of pseudo-podcast, so if you want something else, watch that other stuff.
      this whole thing may have come across as a bit dickish, and that's mostly because i'm REALLY tired when i'm writing this (it's about 3 in the morning) and can't think straight for long enough to not be an asshole, so sorry if i was being a dick.

    • @nothingreally6680
      @nothingreally6680 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      PJ rage Yeah, I watch Game Grumps and I do think that they balance attention to the game with tangents a little better. Typically the anecdotes are triggered by things that they experience while playing the game, so I enjoy that very much.
      You didn't really say anything that could remotely be considered dickish from what I've seen.

    I think this game is about relationships and the way through life. So you meet a random person and you partner up on your ways, living through your best days, gaining maturity or experience (I'm guessing the scarves resemble this).
    As you go further, you may part for a while, but you will be together again. The part in the game where you slowly lose your scarves, you get old together, you lose everything you gained in this world, but you still got each other.
    When both of you ultimately die at some point on your way to finding your goal (because maybe there is none), I'm speculating that last part where you appear to be alive again is actually an hallucination, you remember your glory days with your partner (You got the scarves back aswell), even if alienated (most memories usually only reflect the good things) before you die, shortly after you ultimately ascend, into the unknown.
    Probably there were a million people before me thinking the exact same, i don't claim to be a genius, this is my interpretation. Even if i didn't play the game, watching this video gave me wonderful vibe. Beutiful.

I like to watch you guys play, it's always fun :) and as I'm not going to get a new computer anytime soon, it is a nice experience. I enjoy watching the GTA videos or Minecraft over lunch or something, because they are around 40 minutes, and the Patch and The Podcast late in the night before I go to sleep. You guys are great! [Spoilers. slightly. kinda.]
    I think the story of Journey is saving the lost civilization of the Rythulians (the robed figures). In the game, a few Easter eggs point to suggest it was once the world of both Flow (there's the mysterious sea creatures as one) and a flower in the desert (for Flower). Perhaps all the water in their area dried up, and there were wars over the remaining water? (Wars shown on murals)
    Perhaps for every Rythulian who 'ascends', they can help the rest ascend so they can move somewhere where all of them can live.

    So my understanding of the story being told was that they used the power of those cloths to build a great civilisation and then as the cloth began to run out they went to war with each other and destroyed themselves?
    So this game is a commentary on the oil crisis?

    • @rayhatesu
      @rayhatesu 10 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      No, I think it's more that the scarfs weren't losing power per-se, there just weren't enough for everyone and therefore a war was fought over monopolization of the limited resource, with attrition, or the process of making it even more scarce, as one of the main fighting methods in the war, as noted by the giant sentinel robots that tore scarves to shreds. Therefore, I think it's more about mankind's battle to collect any resources it can from the world and monetize them for themselves rather than let others have them.

      This game has a strong meaning. Journey refers to our life. We have this long Journey in our life with other people, but when those other people are gone we feel alone. The beauty of the game is to show us that we need to stop and smell the roses. This is where they did not notice you can make your scarf longer by finding the ball of light with the first scarfs. The person he plays with are other people who have already beaten the journey they guide us through just like our elders. This game is so simple, but yet strong.

      Yes. They found that they could use the energy encased in the cloth that came from the stars to power their cities. And then it eventually ran out of resources and they fought. I'm guessing the people who wanted to save it, and the people who wanted to use it. Then they used the giant monsters (Which are the cloth whales encased in metal) as giant weapons eventually killing off everything. Then thousands of years later, the stars created another life form, you. And you are on a Journey to discover what happened, before you too, meet your demise.
      Really a beautiful game that does really teach a hard lesson.
      And the little pieces of a picture you get at the end of each "Chapter" are how the destruction of the civilization went.
      Also, they missed about an hour of content. The more you play the game the more you see and know.

    It's amazing, watching these Game Time commentaries. The atmosphere of the game always seems to lend to the conversation, which is by most accounts the most significant part of the videos. But I had a thought I felt like sharing.
    I can't claim that I was around since the first episode of Red vs. Blue, when Roosterteeth was still run out of a single room in Burnie's house (I was probably busy learning my ABCs). But I have been watching these guys for a very long time. Back when Achievement Hunter first became it's own thing, and Joel and Gus spent more time in the videos. I remember Jack being hired. Back before Michael, Ray, Gavin... And Ryan of course. And these are people who have taken up roles as key figures in the entertainment videos, as well as the newer Red vs. Blue and RWBY. It's really been amazing to see how things progress with the company, and with the lives of the individuals, when most of what we see is just brief glimpses among the videos we watch.
    Heck, Michael came in as little more than a kid, with one of his greatest achievements in life screaming at video games and getting other people to watch. Over the course of that time, he's developed lifelong friendships, made amazing work in the field of entertainment, become a rather proficient voice actor, and even gotten married. And I know that many of these things, these connecting lines in peoples' lives, may come as a matter of course, but to be able to see them the way we do, as an audience, and empathize, and wish them well the way we might a close friend, it's... A strange and beautiful thing. I feel as though I know them on a deeply personal level, though I've never met a single one in person, and though I'm fairly certain they don't know a thing about me.
    I don't know, I just felt that it was worth saying, how much these guys have affected, and been a part of, my life, and I would hope the lives of many others, whether or not they know it. And if any of you who work at Roosterteeth should see this, to you I say thank you. For everything you've done. And good luck moving into the future.

I love all the back stories that you two shared. It gave me some info on you ray (not to be creapy or anything)so now I know a little bit more about you. I also belive that Ray should be in more videos mainly because he is one of my favorite people in Rooster Teeth. I hope that soon I will be making my own gaming videos but I don't have enough money to do so.

    Must be weird, playing videogames with your boss. I don't think I ever had a boss that I think I'd enjoy hanging out with. When the game being played is PART of the job, I imagine there'd then be an added bit of stress regarding what's said. Meh, maybe Burnie's one of those cool bosses who doesn't really make you feel stressed at all, even unintentionally so.

    You know, as much as I don't like whining over silly things... I really don't think this is the type of game you are supposed to have a friend next to you while you play. Or at least not talking to eachother like this. It kinda takes away from the companionship part of the game if you have someone with a voice next to you.

    • @IamHueGraves

    • @Miriromi13
      @Miriromi13 10 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      From the companionship of the game. You are supposed to feel that way about the other person in the game who you cannot directly communicate with, not about someone sitting next to you. It takes away from the atmosphere that was intended for the game in my opinion.

    • @hannahschrenk7981
      @hannahschrenk7981 10 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Miriromi13 To be fair, though, they knew nothing about this game before they played it. They just picked it at random because it had been recommended to them. From what I've seen, the Game Time series is more intended to be a way for Burnie to talk to the different employees and let us get to know them than it is for us to see the games. This does a good job with that because it allows them to compare this type of game with the types they both grew up with. It might not be the best presentation of this particular game (I've never played it so I don't know), but I think it works well for the purpose of this video.

    It annoys me that people are freaking out during this that Burnie and Ray aren't paying attention.
    Game Time - ironically - isn't about the game, it's about the dialogue between Burnie and his guest (this time Ray).
    Plus with Journey, you can't say that they are doing something wrong, each experience of Journey is supposed to be different, a unique and different emotional experience every play though.

It happens when Pikachu zaps missiles Team Rocket shoots at them inside a computer (long story) and they decided to show this with the screen quickly flashing red and blue. So, despite it having nothing to do with Porygon and everything to do with the main cast, that's why Porygon and it's evolutions haven't been in an episode since.

    Burnie gives a really great explanation of how getting a job at RT can happen. It's not all fun and games (but still kind of is too), you gotta have some kind of skill that is relevant to their work. Fantastic Game Time. Loved it.
