Good to see a 'ringer' after all these years. We used to look down from on the high deck of 'Mezzie' a 'frenchman' as Penberth men 'ringed' in circles around the Runnelstone with a broomstick with a nail atop for the curtain ring. 'We' were four-handed & held the fish well as a result, but 'Ringo' & the like did as well man for man 'ringin'. We'd get (1975/6/7/8/9) c. 40p. per STONE then.........ripped RIGHT off of course. Plenty of 'mad dogs' in the shoals then....i.e. 1~3+ pounders. I'm almost 82 now & STILL shake off max. in my sleep at times!
GREAT TO SEE A PFD BEING WORN WHILE COMMERCIAL FISHING, WELL DONE... THERE ARE SO MANY VIDEOS OF UK COMMERCIAL FISHERMAN, WHO ARE NOT WEARING THERE PFD'S, AS IT IS A LEGAL REQUIREMENT KNOW, WITH £500 FINES... NICE TO SEE ACTUAL HAND LINEING STILL CONTINUES, LONG MAY IT CONTINUE, LOTS ARE USING URDEGURDYS KNOW... SUBED 👍👍.. EXCELLENT VIDEO, STAY SAFE
GOT TO REMEMBER, 20 CM MINIMUM LAND SIZE FOR MACKEREL IN CORNWALL... I ALWAYS THINK ITS CRAZY, I CAN BUY 20 CM MACKEREL FROM A SHOP, THAT HAVE BEEN LANDED IN CORNWALL, TO USE AS BAIT TO CATCH FISH IN THE N/E OF ENGLAND... BUT WHILE FISH, IF I CATCH A MACKEREL UNDER 30 CM, I HAVE TO RETURN IT TO THE NORTH SEA, DUE TO THE NEIFCA BYELAWS... GREAT TO SEE YOUNGER PEOPLE GETTING INTO COMMERCIAL FISHING
Lovely video so thanks for sharing it. Can I ask why haven’t you got a spare engine mounted on a bracket? I definitely wouldn’t put to sea without a small backup motor!
@@happyguy5414 thanks, usually when im out fishing there are a few others out doing the same thing and close by, so if I break down I just call them up for a tow.
Good for you mate, going into fishing at your age. There's one young fisherman where I live (Petty Harbour, Newfoundland), and one or two in their 40s but most are over 60. Do you get a better price for hand-lined mackerel than gill netted?
This is such a nice way of fishing. Because the line don't stay to long in the water any bycatches stay alive and can be manually and quickly released. And the fishes don't stay on the hook for hours or die slowly by lack of oxygen or compression in a net so I bet the fish quality must be excellent!
Fair play to you. The industry needs more young people like you on smaller boats not these factory ships

Good lad!
Small pollock you caught and returned would have been a goner on a factory ship. Tight lines
Right on

Amazing

hi mate my little man wants me to make a couple of lines up for him what lb main line are you using ?
Hi, 60lb usually
@@CornishFisherman ok it looks heavier thats all.
👍
Excellent! How many hooks do you work?
20 to 28
What is the selling price?
How'd you get into it? You from Newlyn?
would be really good if you make videos with a breakdown of costs and how much you sell for, it is always interesting for all of us to see it
I too was waiting on this .
Great to know what revenues and profits are
Beats working a job for sure
I'd buy your makrel everyday
have you tried useing a fishing rod and reel line and sinker with feathers on it.
@@fisherman5517 no, as it won’t be efficient enough when I find a shoal
How???@@CornishFisherman
Mmmmm fresh hot smoked mackerel.,😍😍
Where i live fishermen can ask £3 plus for a mackerel and get that amount. I catch them from the shore and am happy to give them away
You shouldn't give them away sell them cheaper
And the by-catch survived to swim another day.

ill stick to rod and line.
They were to many Joey's in that haul. Small ones should go back.
MACKEREL MINIMUM LANDING SIZE 20 CM IN CORNWALL, SO THEY ARE DEFINITELY NOT UNDERSIZE
