Even the elders of Ephesus were called to work like Paul did to support themselves and also support the weak: Acts 20:34-35 "Yea, ye yourselves know, that these hands have ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me. I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive."
Yep, it's pretty ironic. But from an eternal perspective, it will be the volunteers who get rewarded by God as they are not seeking reward on the earth. These pastors don't seem to grasp that they are forfeiting heavenly rewards because they continue to take money for their work on the earth.

In all of the many Churches that I've gone to over the last 50 years... the volunteers do most of the work, yet the Pastor gets a lot of money.
