      Tbh, Zoro is sort of fan favourite but Luffy is actually more famous than Zoro in the Anime, and actually I don't like the part where they are showing Zoro as stronger than Luffy here, in the Anime Luffy has more brute strength than Zoro actually but can let it slide because Live Action itself is too good🔥
      It's just Luffy isn't shining much in Live Action as he should be!!

    The actor for Zoro, Mackenyu, has a lot of experiences in live action movies. He took a part in live action Rurouni Kenshin, a story about swordsman. He mostly did all the stunts by himself as well as fighting with sword cuz he is a swordsman. He did a reaaaallyy great job as a swordsman there and I can't help but admire him. That's why his stunts in One Piece looks smooth and amazing cuz he had the experience 👍

    The consensus among the majority of fans is that every actor they cast is somehow so naturally like their character it’s weird. The way they have acted in interviews reflects their characters a lot and it’s endlessly entertaining. Iñaki Godoy IS Luffy. The creator of One Piece who is pretty involved with the show (was involved with having a final say in all the casting too) told him he wouldn’t have anyone else play Luffy. 😭
    Emily Rudd who plays Nami is a huge anime fan and this was a dream role for her. A perfect choice with good understanding of the character. And Mackenyu as Zoro was perfect too, he’s been an anime fan forever and every time he’s asked about it his answer is “I’m Japanese!” lol
    Can’t wait until you meet all the big characters. Everyone really smashes their role. It’s a triumph for live action anime adaptations. Finally.

  • @reaperfool
    @reaperfool ปีที่แล้ว +76

    To answer some of the questions you guys had Carlie and Ange;
    - The story is very close to the manga/anime. Not completely 1:1, but close enough to appreciate that it stayed mostly true to the canon. If I had to give it a number, it would be like 90% anime accurate, maybe even 95%, which is very good.
    - The characters are also all pretty much 1:1 to their manga/anime counterparts, and the actors across the board did a great job playing their characters. Including side characters/fodder.
    - The story/setting is not based on a particular human era, it's basically an alternate reality where basically anything goes. If you guys ever watch the anime, it will become very apparent. Here we obviously have "live-action limitations" but they still did a pretty good job with the more "fantastical" scenes.
    Looking forward to the rest of your reactions!

    • @Krustenkaese92
      @Krustenkaese92 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      95% is way too high, they did change quite a lot of things. But I think most changes made sense and were well thought out and well executed. A lot of the plot lines are different, Luffy, Sanji, Usopp, Garp and a few others are characterized a bit differently. I'd say the live action show is 70% accurate to the manga.

    • @reaperfool
      @reaperfool ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, the reason I say 90-95% is because the things that were changed weren't super relevant to the main plot, as in, they don't make a huge impact to the main story Oda is trying to tell. Meanwhile the changes make the story flow better in a live action environment.
      You are right that *technically* the show is like 30% inaccurate, but I'd argue the majority of that 30% is not important in the grand scheme of the story.
      @@Krustenkaese92

    • @mrcx6142
      @mrcx6142 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That percentage is way too high considering they cut out entire characters which would reoccur and become relevant later on as well as some hype moments. I don't think it's a huge issue, in fact 90% of the changes were probably good in terms of this being a more condensed live action, but really, it's probably like 65-70% accurate to the manga.
      The overall direction of the story is the same, but there are a lot of changes in the details.

    • @fivedudes
      @fivedudes ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The manga was used for references for how events played out and their looks, not the anime, which ofc has its own changes due too tv censorship early on that anime only fans get confused about in the LA.

      Its got the same heart as the original which is more important than the overall plot points being the same. Still not as great as the manga but a masterpiece is hard to top

      I actually love how they change stuff because in manga and anime things are obviously so different than in real life. A big part of what makes One Piece so much fun is deciding to "just go with it" haha
    So don't try to worry too much about what time period this is or whenever things don't make too much sense. One Piece is in its core an extremely absurdist comedy and the creator has said that if he finds something funny or silly or absurd, he'll put it into his story, and then worry later about it making sense. He'll usually form the world around his jokes after the fact, so they kind of make sense in hindsight, which is why this world is so whacky. I freaking love that writing approach. One Piece in this sense has more in common with something like Spongebob imo.

  • @PeyloBeauty
    @PeyloBeauty ปีที่แล้ว

    I‘m just imagining how it must be like to watch the one piece live action without knowing anything about one piece at all.. it must be so weird but so entertaining at the same time. I think everyone that watched one piece knows that they did such a great job with the live action because they did all they could do with cgi and all that to the point it is not strange and weird to watch because I think adapting things that happen in the anime 1:1 in the live action wouldn’t look that good because in the end.. anime is anime and real life is real life. They found a great way to work with it. The one piece essence is still so present I love it. The crazy thing is also, that even before the show was out everyone came to love the cast. Each cast member and their chemistry. Also they met oda, the mangaka (creator) of the one piece that is a huge honor. Oda dedicated his life to one piece since over 2 decades and is fully involved in the live action. He was the one picking each cast member and he had to give his okay to each episode. There is a whole video of Iñaki (Luffy) meeting oda too.

    There are many references, easter eggs and cameos for us long time fans. This is a completely new world, it looks more like it was from the past, but they also have modern stuff actually. The Phone Snail is one such thing. They did an amazing job to make this 8 episode live action a success and as someone who's been following it for over 20 years, I couldn't be happier to see new people experience this amazing adventure for the first time in a new format.

    To answer your question from earlier on in the video. This netflix adaptation is not 1 for 1. That includes events, scenarios, and the characters. There are elements and moments from the manga/anime that made it to the adaptation. But they needed to fit 100 chapters in the manga into 8 episodes that were 1 hour long. So things will get revealed WAY sooner than they would compared to the manga/anime.

There is no time period like Middle Ages or 1800's but they do set up the time to be like the age of pirates and the discover of the New World (Americas Continent). fyi, this is a detail that is missed even by fans - in-world, the Strawhat among Pirates is famously associated with Shanks (the Red Haired Pirate that Child Luffy looks up to).
    Given Shanks reputation, a Pirate in a Strawhat doing wild stuff would be of significance to anyone who knows about Pirates at the highest level

    They've taken some liberties, but the heart is all there. It should be impossible to adapt One Piece, but they damn well went and did it. And did it SO well. Luffy is PERFECT and the rest of the cast is GREAT as well. Especially the physical mannerisms of Luffy is spot on. Its also really hard to be as positive and goofy as Luffy without it coming off as try-hard or fake, but Iñaki is perfect for it.

    The show is pretty accurate. Mostly, they chance the pacing, which is really slow in the anime, obviously because Netflix only made 8. They kinda change the order of things too, but I personally think it fits the new and faster pacing. The treatment of some side characters is also pretty different. Some are not here. Some are killed off.

    This is a good start to OP. As an OP fan for 15 yrs, I understand starting it at this point is quite daunting but the live action is quite good, thanks to good casting and Oda-sensei’s guidance. The actor playing Zoro is a famous Japanese actor who has done a number of live action movies like Rurouni Kenshin, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, FMA, and Knights of the Zodiac. His dad was a famous Japanese actor and martial artist so he was trained with karate and other martial arts at a young age. He does most of his stunts but for his best role so far in terms of the action, it’s as Enishi in Rurouni Kenshin. Looking forward to your reaction to the next ep. 🥰

    Time period would be closer to like FMA Brotherhood. You’ll see steam trains, but also places were there’s still villages. Maybe a little earlier as there’s rarely any cars.

  • @EQINOX187

    it is about 70% accurate to the anime and 80% accurate to the manga and the rest is adaption and addition, and well it works and given that the anime is over 1000 eps at this point it would be utterly impractical to do a 1 to 1 adaption like some fans are moaning that they did not do , personally as a long time OP fan i love what thye did it is not 100 but is close enough to have the life and spirit of the show

    Thing to note from the live action ii's less censored than the anime and they still keep the core of the story while trying to imploment the important moment from it, yet... it still different.
    I hope one day you take up the anime and also the manga. Because if you only go by the anime you will miss out on thing that is either information worthy or have more importants then at first glance from the manga. Don't be afraid to try it just because it's long. Once you are hooked you will never think it's long enough.
