It has a certain brutalism to how it functions. It feels like a solid chunk of glass, brass, steel and leather.
I've taken mine to anime cons and the like for cosplay stuff. If only because it's an amusing diversion for people compared to the big chattering DSLR's. It's a chance to use it the way it was intended to be used - and it'll still slam through a few rolls of film an hour if it absolutely has to. It's kind of like using a steam-train for excursions.
I've fitted it with an motor-drive. I also have some of the accessories for it - like the databack and the "auto-exposure" flash equipment. It is a wonderful, satisfying, tactile thing to operate in a way that modern cameras aren't.

Our friendly neighborhood cameraman is back. I surprisingly enjoyed this slow paced episode and I’m glad, we had the chance to get a little insight in your work life. Congrats to the musicbed deal, I’m looking forward to some funky, wise and sometimes even a bit life changing Projects.
To end today’s comment I have to say, that it is a smart idea to change cameras from time to time.

I love my Canon F-1. It's my first film camera. Ordered it straight from Japan.

I love my F-1 so much more than any of my other fancier cameras. It's just a camera that just works. The focusing is stupid accurate, the light meter is perfect, I can beat it up, drop it, run it into a wall, and it'll be fine. It's my go to camera for any dirty work or when I just wanna get out and shoot

Really enjoyed this one. It felt really relaxed and inspiring. Especially liked the greenish-reflection-garden-shot! Keep up the great work.

Love my 1976 F1, and my 1980, and my 1984... It's hard to stop at just one..

Have you shot with a Canon Ftb? Shares a lot of similarities to the F1 but is even more basic and fully manual. They're readily available on the cheap and built like tanks. I would really like an F-1 but prices have shot up quite a bit.

I bought my first Canon F1 in 1972, and I still use it. Since then I have bought 4 other F1s.

Genuinely impressive how great your videos are, the compositions, the content, the dialogue and witty quips, I just love it. So excited to see where you go from here.
I had A-1 for quite some time, I enjoyed it a lot, but always found missing reaching for my Minolta XD, so I sold it. Of course now I have like 8 more SLR’s but that’s a whole different topic 😂

Dude thanks so much! I am not getting tired of comments like these. TH-cam is easily the most challenging thing I ever did in terms of creativity, courage and discipline. And I did quite a few things before. Cheers mate!

I acquired mine used, but I have to use a light meter app right now as the internal one doesn’t function.
I’m finishing my first roll, so I will find out how it goes.

Basic but honest question. In terms of image quality and shooting the exact same film, with exact same focal length ect. Is the Leica M6 (image quality) much better than Canon F1? Or is the reason people shoot with the M6 just the brand and experience?

    • @nicarnold
      @nicarnold  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

35mm film camera bodies don’t matter. It’s all about the film stock and lenses especially.

had 86 model , regret selling it , at one point had 13 lenses for it , this is a few years ago now , great robust cameras , heavy for what they are especially with fast glass attached ... but yes very highly recommended , wasn't much difference in weight with it and a 55mm 1.2 or 200mm f2.8 attached and the hassle with an 80 to be honest , high end fd and fdn lenses are fantastic bargains .brilliant light meter . sold it to use the hassle more and try range finders canon p and Leica m2 for a while,, recently bough a Nikon F , but always regret selling the f1new , very good cameras ,

I dislike , LF! I tried it, it was Not for Me! The Hassie is Finicky, requires services and adjustments! I used Mamiyaflex TLR series in Studio. I could Focus the beast! I never could Hassie! Even with Minolta Accumate screen. But 6x6 is a BIG piece of film, the colors, resolution, look way better than 35mm. I still prefer 35mm. On the Internet, all that wonderous Medium Format looks same as my old CCD cameras from 2004! The F1 is big, heavy and who needs all those bits? I'm very Happy with Canon AE-1, AE-1P and AV-1. In Canadas frigid winters, well below zero C*, they don't work.. But I have many SLR's that are not battery powered! Enjoy the F1! Good luck shooting!
