Another one I've never heard of or ever seen before! So weird, I'm into looking at antique shops and flea markets and looking for games. You've got the most games I've never heard of. Lol. A lot of these must've came out when I was around my early teens or younger and I just never knew about them.
There were a lot of great games in the late sixties and the seventies.
A bunch I saw on a vintage game website were about supernatural and fortune telling kind of stuff that were from the seventies of course. I will try and find the website and link it to you if you might be interested.

I think the submarines should be able to attack anytime a ship is in their row, not just directly above them. One strategy I've seen is to line all three subs up in rows 1-3 and just start lobbing torpedo's as soon as the surface ships come out. The sea mine usually gets one, so you only need two hits.

I got this game for Christmas in the seventies. It is an awesome game with a very exciting board. The only problem is that it took forever to play.

Richard Ray ha! we can get thru a game rather quickly. the only problem with time is putting the whole thing together. but it looks great when all set up!

IIRC, The subs can shoot a torp at any ship in a line to it (front to back on the grid). not just directly above it.(granted my memory is about 45 years old of the rules.
Was a cool game, better than Battleship'

I remember this game. I think my grandparents must have had it at their house. I don't these rules AT ALL. I'm thinking we didn't play by the proper rules. :) Cool game though!

      Ha! It's a fun game!

To be fair, this guy isn't using the proper rules either. For example, you can only move one surface ship at a time. Near misses are not only for adjacent spaces at the same depth, but also for the same numbered space at a different depth. Torpedo shots travel along the columns in the direction of the little torpedo icons on the surface level, not just directly above.
A quick Google search for Sub Search Rules should get you a PDF from Hasbro's website.

This game, Tank Battle, and Battle Cry were the three go to board games for snow days!

I was given this game as a present in high school. I could never find anyone to play it with. They could understand the near miss rules, no matter how many times and ways I tried to explain it, for the levels their sub was not located on. I tried a simple near miss method for them on those levels, I don't remember, now, if it was part of the rules and they still couldn't do it. That really put me at a disadvantage because they never told me when I had a near miss above or below them. But I played fair and explained the all the near miss possibilities when they missed me. I was trying to help them learn the picture while doing that. I want to buy it again. I realize my son has the reasoning skills to play it with me. I loved the game. Battleship was too boring for me because I would always win unless I was playing with someone who, again, didn't understand when to tell me I had a near miss. I also know one other person who might understand the rules, I hope.

Hey Matt, good review. I picked up this game at a secondhand shop several months ago. All the pieces there. I can not for the life of me get it back in the box properly. Not sure if the white portion isn't original but the lid is. Any thoughts?

hi Jon. that's odd. I didn't have. that problem with mine. Not sure what it could be though congrats on getting a complete game!

Hi Matt, I'd like to see how all the pieces of the board game fit between the bottom and top lids of the 1973 version you have. The plastic sides which face each player are thicker than the bottom lid so I'm not sure how you were able to make them fit. I passed on the complete 1973 version today as I picked up a 1977 edition this past Sunday which has all cardboard sides and a modified plastic base.

    Is this three-dimensional battleship?

    • @chrisperrien7055
      @chrisperrien7055 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Basically, but more action and strategy, than Battleship, with the moving ships, 3 levels of hit boards, and torpedo shots.

Found this game complete at an antique store, but didn’t buy it because I couldn’t think of any solo rules. Anybody have any ideas for solo rules?
