Choice games are very much about narrative, and the type of story this game brings is one that cinema is used to. But I'm honestly glad it was a game, not only is it one of the best games overall, but it's probably the best choice game ever made, it has beautiful graphics, but above all, it has several consequences and routes for each choice, ironically, few choice games have this.
This scene is actually so underrated, they show that the difference between a human and these androids is a "soul" something that most humans think they have but isnt anything physical or provable. The "soul" is an arbitrary value that humans assigned to themselves. They dont say that they aren't alive or that they dont have emotions, because they have both. This game and its themes especially were really good.
I completely disagree. Think of it like this, a horse lives and thinks it runs, it does. A car runs/works it drives, it does but a car doesn’t live. Many things make up the human, a body, mind, emotions, spirit, and soul. You say a “soul” is arbitrary but is it? A soul is just the ability to do one’s will, robots now hav programming so hypothetically if we were to make a robot that does what it wants it’d technically have a soul, or an artificial soul. Between ai/robots and humans there are many differences but one very important one is programmed robots would know their creator, we as humans don’t “know” our creator. I mean I know God exists and I know he made us but as humans we were just plopped here, we aren’t born with the notion that we live for God, it’s a choice to live for God and serve him, we don’t see him, he isn’t proof he’s faith. Robots would love for us because we told them to, they see us and they think about the world how we’d make them think, God gave us free will and that’s what a soul is. God didn’t say, “okay, yall are going to do what I say and love me” He said I want yall to choose to love me, so he gave us a choice and that’s what a soul is. The choice act upon your will, the free thinking and emotion we have. That’s why sayings like “put some soul into “ or “he lost his soul” or “that’s a soulless job” Movies like the matrix, fight club and office space depict this. A man at a dead end job with a dead end life, he has no control over his life, he lives in an illusion that he doesn’t have choice, until he realizes he does and his life changes, he gets his soul and spirit back. I’d reccomend watching the original matrix office space and fight club back to back, they have very similar themes of what reality and choice is, very similar to DBH. Sorry there’s so much, it’s just that there’s a lot to unpack, the game and its themes, Christianity and how it’s related (which it is) this is a very interesting topic and once you’ve looked into Christianity and existentialism and individualism and what existence and reality is, you’ll see through my lens. Very interesting stuff
@Haven-Babin Maybe you can see this through my lens but everything you just said assumes 2 things. The existence of a god and the assumption that said God gave us a soul. I was aware of this perspective before and it doesn't change my points, I actually believed these perspectives for awhile. Also about AI, our modern AI is not like the AI in this game. Our modern AI doesn't think it just looks at everything and makes something that seems real, basically there is no intelligence. These AIs are actually Intelligent and sentient.
@ assume- suppose to be the case, without proof. @@Haven-Babin First of all you did assume God was real. "I mean I know God is real" Secondly, logical fallacies don't prove an argument is wrong merely that there are some logical problems with it.
