Little did they know they were on their way to becoming international popstars, scoring themselves two Grammy's, the first #1 original a capella album in history, and as we speak, are on their first headlining arena world tour. I'm totally not crying at all.
They didn't drop out. The core trio found the other two when Scott had gone off to college at USC and met Avi. Kevin has his bachelor's degree from Yale. Kirstin attended OU.
+Maadhawk oh ok in their sixth performance (Britney Spears Medley) Scott said that some of them were missing school to be there and I just assumed they were still in high school
I'm sorry but I started to tear up when Scott said, "This could be our ticket out of Arlington. To do something big." Honey. You're selling out shows world wide, you're all so perfect, I can't deal right now ;A;
Vloger Girl24 One of them is... they made a video about how he wants to spend more time with his family so he's leaving the group. Unless he changed his mind?
as you can see, the rare specimen known as "Avious Kaplanius" in his natural habitat, preforming one of his favorite hobbies.. singing low notes.. such a majestic creature.
It is amazing to think when they started this, Sing Off was their "ticket out of Arlington", now they are singing with stars like Jason Derulo, Dolly Parton, Lindsey Stirling, selling out concerts, touring the world multiple times, and basically becoming one of the most popular music groups in the world, with only their voices (and on occasion a violin and/or cello).
it is now 2022, and Pentatonix teamed up with no less than Miss Saigon herself, Lea Salonga (also The Disney Princess) with a Christmas single th-cam.com/video/473k6iH8wP4/w-d-xo.html
They were so talented here, but I love to look at how far they've come. Kevin's beatboxing now is so different, and I think that they've grown together, which is incredible.
The fact they literally transformed and remade the A cappella genre and made it so much more is astounding it’s kinda like the story we all wanted when we were young.
"I swear y'all was cheatin'". Totally! Avi was doing 2 notes at once, the beatboxing was like two people at once, they had 4 part harmonies with incredible solos, and they loaded in all manner of sound effects at the same time. It's not fair a quintet could do all that, yet they did!
HOLY SHIT. OH MY FUCKING GOD. I just realized Avi was singing overtone at 2:45. That high whistling noise? It's coming from Avi. The base? That's Avi's too. At the same time. During a concert. Damn.
It just astounds me that 10 years, so many albums and EP's, 3 Grammy's, and Billboard chart toppers, they are still improving as musicians and as a group. All of them. Also their solo careers are fire. 🔥 I’m so happy and proud for how far they’ve come. I keep on thinking of their original song “lucky ones” when I see these performances. And as “lucky” as they were, they are hard workers, and I admire them for it. I wish them all the happiness for their lives, considering their music brings happiness into mine.
Me too. I think it took them a while to figure out what they were hearing--Shawn referred to it with "I swear y'all were cheating" and I think Ben thought it was Kevin. It's really what knocked everybody's socks off and made them sound like they were not of this world.
overtone singing is a technique that makes it sound like there are two notes being sang at the same time. Something Avi has truely mastered. I actually was just rewatching this again and noticed it for the first time today and was looking for people who heard it too in the comments. Too bad they dont let Kevin and Avi do their segments during their concerts anymore to showcase their unique abilities, Kevin with the chello(I love his version of Julie-o) and Avi’s overtone singing.
My only regret watching this is the fact that I'm not any sort of professional music artist. You could tell that the judges' backgrounds in music enabled them to enjoy the complexity of the remix in ways that the average Joe Schmo could not. Lucky them!
Naw, man, I'm legit right now! I hope I did not sound disrespectful, I'm simply jealous that their knowledge of music makes it so that they can pick out the details that others cannot.
Oh yes, it sounds VERY good. I can just tell that my untrained ears are missing the deeper parts of the complexity. Haha I wish you luck with that broken limb. Perhaps a splint and some rest will do it good =P
Of The Falls I agree with what you're saying. Because for untrained ears like mine, I can't relate when I find their arrangement and tone good, but the judges were not completely happy about them. I want to be able to pick up on what's good and what's not for shows and talents like these. Anyway, I'm still an PTX fan
Ok but they've improved so much?? They sound great here but they've cleaned up so much and have grown so much and i'm so proud of al of them!! Also when Mitch started singing i died so
It isn't just their insane talent, but how soulful they are with their music. Most musicians just sit there and do nothing or have choreographed numbers. PTX is just amazing. I love them!!
I just wish Mitch got more leads. I know Scott is their "leader" since he got them all together, but Mitch and even Kirstie have such beautiful voices that they should get more solos if not songs
Rachel Garland Mitch has a lot of solo parts! he has one in Problem, he leads in Aha!, Love Again, and Show You How to Love. And has many other solos. Its just Kirstie that needs more solos.
When I first saw them on this show I thought "eh they're okay I guess" and now I'm fucking obsessed and everything about them is perfect. Wtf was I thinking
+IzzyMilkshake Keeping the description as it was written before they were famous is fantastic. Should absolutely not be rewritten with accuracy learned in hindsight.
I never get tired of the expression on the girl's face at 3:50 when the camera pans to the box for "Soul'd Out". She just has this look of "What in the world just happened here!?! I didn't even know that this sort of thing was possible with acapella!"
From this performance to 3 grammys, sold out tours, millions of view on their amazing videos. They have come a long way in 6 years. Thank you Avi for everything you have done and how much heart you put into making music and being a part of Pentatonix. I'll miss Avi a lot.
I always LOVED that each of them got a moment where what they brought to the group got focus in this introduction to what would be one of the best vocal groups in history.
I just re-listened to this and I'm blown away both by how great they are way back then AND just how far they've grown and improved since then. It's absolutely insane and I love them.
Its great to look back to see the "There is no plan B " Congrats on making it to the big time may you all be friends a let the good times roll ! And always be your talented humble selves.
I LOVED this show! Anyone who has been in a singing group gets this. PTX was GOLD on that show, truly destine to be phenomenal on the world stage. Been a fan and following ever since.

I've probably watched this performance at least 100 times, and i'm always so shook by Avi absolutely SLAYING the overtone. It's such a shame that the judges never noticed it.
They share so much talent between them, fully complementary and original! Their sound is light years beyond their ages. I can't wait to see and hear what's coming towards us all in the future! Great luck Pentatonix!!!!!
This kinda makes me tear up a bit now..this is where it all started.I remember watching this when it was first on and being floored by these kids. Now look where they are! It makes you feel like a proud mama! Our babies are all grown up hahaha
On the first time i've seen this video i didn't expected Avi's voice. When he says: "From Arlington, Texas!" at first i was like: Duuuuude... But, then i was like: "Daaaamm!" You guys ROCKS!
Rewatching all their sing off performences after hearing Avi's anouncement today, and its killing me i've been crying all day. They've come so far and were finally beginning to get places and gain the recognition they deserved, and now its starting to crumble. I wish Avi and the rest of ptx the best and hope only good comes from this, Pentatonix are basically family and its so hard to see this happen, but our fandom is strong and will support them no matter what, now excuse me while i watch the rest of the season and ball my eyes out.
You have perfectly tuned people like ppentatonix who win a grammy for coordination, and I cant even coordinate among my friends who''s doing the homework.
I just wanted to say "thank you" for editing and posting all of the Sing Off videos but especially for the PTX shows! I watch these all the time...so thanks again!❤️
the fact that I come here to appreciate them, so many years later. I love their art, their music. The show they did here in my city was absolutely awesome. I was in heaven. So greatful for what you do. Thank you.
So I just watch Superfruit react to old Pentatonix videos and naturally I had to come back and watch them all. I can't believe how much lower Mitch's voice is in these! He sings so much higher now and back when I watched them on the Sing Off I remember thinking how high his voice was for a guy! On a side note, I'm surprised this show never got rebooted after the success that Pentatonix has had. I know there were a couple seasons after this and I watched them, but it seemed like the seasons got shorter and shorter until last time when it was literally a one night competition. Miss this show :(
Re-watching this after listening to The Prayer and My Heart is with you, and clips of their Evergreen Tour concerts, has me amazed at how much they have grown as artists, showmen, and people Such talent, drive, humility, and resilience. ❤️
Mitch did receive some praise through the competition, Kirstie received probably the least but in my opinion without Kirstie they would have been lacking a LOT - her parts were maybe not out front but were a key part of the group - the group without her would not have been the Pentatonix that won the competition - if you get my drift.
Oh, trust me, Mitch is getting tons of praise now that PTX is becoming more popular. Being a countertenor is rare. Kirstie can sing whistle tones. I'm sure that soon, as the group's popularity grows, she'll be more recognized.
My God, they were all so young then, and their style has progressed so much and they have come so far to have claimed 3 Grammy Awards for Acapella singing. Trying to even have seen them singing Hallelujah is such a step forward for them. But this is where they all started. But I'm not kidding, look at Avi, look at Kirsten, look at Scott, and Kevin and Mitch... They looked barely old enough to shave, let alone to be become the true winners that they turned out today. Mitch's voice is so much lower here, to imagine him singing " The Prayer " and Scott singing Italian is twenty levels above what they are here. Avi's looks too, to develope into such a great bass and now doing his own songs. Amazing where they all are doing world tours.
Little did they know they were on their way to becoming international popstars, scoring themselves two Grammy's, the first #1 original a capella album in history, and as we speak, are on their first headlining arena world tour. I'm totally not crying at all.

Nah, they knew.
The fact that they were so much better than the other groups, and they only had FIVE MEMBERS WHILE THE OTHERS HAD LIKE 20
And they dropped out of high school so they were almost the youngest if not the youngest
They were missing college :). I've always thought how their choir directors must have been in mourning that they left ;)
Emily Cummings they were 19
I'm sorry but I started to tear up when Scott said, "This could be our ticket out of Arlington. To do something big."

no that's Kirsten whistling in the mic they show it clearly. But they're all amazing :)
This group literally destroyed the show because they were so good. Who else is watching in 2020?
Yeah, they totally broke the show. The next season too many groups were trying to be like them.
I thought the same thing because when I watched the next season I was like nope I just had steak can't go back😒
I miss Avi though
🙋🏾♀️🙋🏾♀️🙋🏾♀️ I remember watching this for the first time a few years back. Just felt like i needed to revisit😁💜
I remember I used to hate them in 2014 bc my sister liked their Xmas but I found them again in 2017 and I love them so much
Looking back and listening to them for awhile, they were so amateur back then xD look how much they've grown into the best ever!
actually Kevin and Avi werent amateurs back then, the three were
Petra Krajciova I'm basically saying they sound extremely new (not that they're bad) and they've gotten better throughout time.
It just astounds me that 10 years, so many albums and EP's, 3 Grammy's, and Billboard chart toppers, they are still improving as musicians and as a group. All of them. Also their solo careers are fire. 🔥

it actually pisses me off that Avi's amazing skill of overtone singing went unnoticed from 2:43-2:55
I was just thinking that same thing. amazing precision
Me too. I think it took them a while to figure out what they were hearing--Shawn referred to it with "I swear y'all were cheating" and I think Ben thought it was Kevin. It's really what knocked everybody's socks off and made them sound like they were not of this world.

Fun fact--Avi was taught this skill while at college by his friend Joe Caigoy, who later entered the Sing-Off with the group the Filharmonic.

I still find it funny how far ahead of every other group they were and the show had to try to make it seem like they actually had competition
YES AVI WORK THAT OVERTONE
now these guys are even more successful than the sing off
Period
Facts! They are amazing
Mitch... Hair... OMG
Lol..
ITS GORGEOUS
omg ya
Madi kayla He looks like my uncle! LOL
I just wanted to say "thank you" for editing and posting all of the Sing Off videos but especially for the PTX shows! I watch these all the time...so thanks again!❤️
The fact that it is the Year Of Our Lord 2021 and this video still slaps is why Pentatonix is legendary 😍
the fact that I come here to appreciate them, so many years later. I love their art, their music. The show they did here in my city was absolutely awesome. I was in heaven. So greatful for what you do. Thank you.
fetus pentatonix omg
It's crazy looking at this now and seeing how far they have come and how much they have improved. Amazing !
No it's fine I love crying
Same
Don't cry craft
+dilmíche the duck yesssss
now that I'm familiar with Avi's overtone singing, I can hear it here so easily.
me to, its incredible, just amazing, he is awesome
it helps give them that electronic feel when they are doing club songs.
Look like some realy ET thing
yeah
Shawn was the OG Pentaholic
Still watching their Sing-Offs videos. And it's 2017 already. I'm so proud of them just looking at how they came this far. Love Pentatonix forever! ❤
I've never watched this show (and consequently never knew they had started here). Did they win this?
They did! :)
they SLAYEDDDD it
+ScarlettCrystal2009 Lets just say. Everyone on the show knew they stood no chance.
+Tristhal They thought Pentatonix stood no chance or that Pentatonix would be the for sure winner?
ScarlettCrystal2009 Pentatonix would win for sure.
It makes me feel sad and angry that Scott,Avi,and Kevin got so much praise(well deserved praise), and NONE of them talked about Mitchie and Kirstie 😓
I know I feel your pain but look at them now😉
Mitch and Kirstie didn't do anything super remarkable in this song though. they did get more praise further in the competition.
Mitch did receive some praise through the competition, Kirstie received probably the least but in my opinion without Kirstie they would have been lacking a LOT - her parts were maybe not out front but were a key part of the group - the group without her would not have been the Pentatonix that won the competition - if you get my drift.
Well obviously! the group wouldn't be the same without any of them.
I just don't think we need to feel sorry for any of them.
2 Grammys for best arrangement and one for best performance
How young they were, but so talented as I have been listening for years and still enjoy those marvellous voices.
My fave group especially since I enjoyed and loves Acapella so much 🥰
Hmm.. Where have i been? This is the first time this group is coming to my attention.. They're amazing..
stick with us girl, and you'll be in for a lot of fun!
RoseGoldRena Lol. Me?
+DeMar Binns hope you've found their music since their debut it's way more evolved now :)
+tororobanana Actually, I wouldn't even know what's new or old of theirs. But it all sounds good to me.
DeMar Binns p.s. Their "Daft Punk" medley and "Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy" won them Grammys two years in a row.
This was posted on my birthday.:D Anyways, in regards to your description, I feel that they have gotten far in their music career.;)
They've improved so much omg, I'm so proud of them
