the whole stealing childrens ssn to comitt fraud could easily be prevented by having the dob included in the ssn, thats how its done here in norway. our ssn starts with your date of birth, and has a unique combination of 5 numbers after that. so its not even possible to apply for loan or credit with the ssn of someone who is under 18
I’ve no idea how safe my identity is right now, but someone used my home address on two separate occasions to buy a car and break the law over and over resulting in many tickets that have gone unpaid. The names are very clearly fake and thankfully, the second one was picked up by the police and I was informed that no further action was to be taken. However, it has been almost 3 years now and that first one is still affecting me to this date. I have confirmed with everyone necessary that this person does not exist and they’ve given written confirmation that it has been noted on their systems. But I still get dept collectors knocking on my door and threatening to take my belongings. And every time I prove that this individual does NOT live here, it gets passed on to the next debt collector. I’m hoping that this will finally go away at some point. 😩

It's getting so much worse now, in exploits volume, and ease for lower costs, vs security side is just too vulnerable now from so many angles...
"security by obscurity" has always been a myth because it justifies covering up the security holes instead of fixing them. The best way to force the issue is to publish the security holes far and wide. If everybody knows about them everybody can defend against them. If only the criminals know about them, everybody else is defenceless.

There are different versions (Smartphone app, physical token, USB Stick ...) that are all based on two factor authentication
the 200 years imprisonment shows how biased the courts in the usa are, if he had stolen the data of a non-prominent person, the sentence would not have been so exaggerated (not only that it is ridiculous to sentance someone to more than twice as long as the lifespan of a person) no, it also shows how bad the American justice system is when it sentences someone who has only stolen some money to a longer sentence than a murderer

I was also fooled by scammer. He asked the photo of my passport, academic certificate, ID along with selfie and I have provided him all these. I don't know in what trouble I will be in the future.

Hey what equipments do you use to make videos?
I have to dispute the 'create profiles on all social media sites'. Unless you have a real unique name, its gonna be taken and many sites allow you to choose display name anyway so it doesnt matter.
The verification system social media sites is prolly a better way to let people know its you.
Even if the verification system is sometimes dodgy.
Just because you dont have a 2 next to your name, doesnt mean its really you, as i mentioned above. You would have to be really specific in telling friends what your actual display or username is.

People who use social media, enter their valid DOB, the city/State where they were born, their race, pictures etc. on those platforms and then they wonder how their identity has been stolen and used. The answer is simple. The social security number is not that hard to figure out for the professional thief. The first three (3) numbers on a SS card is the City/State you were born, the next two (2) numbers are geographical numbers. The last 4 digits of a SSN is all the thief needs to open accounts in that name, and it's quite easy for them to do....All thanks to YOU for willfully providing your private info and pictures, and making yourself a vulnerable target of identity theft. Immediately put a security freeze on all 6 of your credit reports, if this happens to you. Also, opt of of as many 'Data Broker" web sites that have your info up for grabs by anyone ant any time. Freeze your SSN with the IRS as well. Identity theft IRS form 15227 freeze the SSN. Never request Credit reports online. Do it through the USPS, its safer that way. Use a strong password for banking online and change it every once in awhile for safety.
I thought 3 major credit card bureau which is eqifax,trans union and experian... what's the other 3 u referring?

Birth certificates are mandatory and done by the doctors who deliver the newborn, no getting around this.

No, banking apps are far easier to hack, than websites. I agree that hackers can make fictitious websites and save your login information. However, if I hack your phone I have access to most of your apps. So it's better to just log in to your banking website and clear your browser after you are done also clear your cookies.

at the very least, go into your google security settings, kick out any other devices logged in, change all of your passwords immediately and then double check after to see if any devices logged back in (kick them out)
then triple check a couple of days later, there might be a real problem if theyve come back on
i also recommend to uninstall shady apps, shady extensions, clear your cookies, cache, and if you have an antivirus, run a scan
theres much much more that you can do but this is a good starting point
