Highlights from the Women's Omnium Elimination Race during the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Cycling is among the rare sports that have always featured on the Olympic programme. Road cycling, however, was not on the programme of the Paris 1900, St Louis 1904 or London 1908 Games, while track cycling wasn't in the programme of the Stockholm 1912 Games.
The first road event in Olympic history took place in 1896 on the marathon route at the first Games of the modern era in Athens. The race started in Athens, headed towards Marathon, then returned to Athens, at the Phaliron velodrome.
Olympic cycling was added to the women's programme in Los Angeles in 1984, with an individual road event.

Laura's wave in the final straight was delightful.
it's so incredible hwo Laura trott is a powerful sprint specialist but shes also seemingly too tiny for her power, and also somehow competes in this event which looks more endurance related
Omnium is actually quite short, maybe 4 or 5 miles, which is like running a mile in terms of endurance/effort.
Her small size helps with her drag, which is a lot of cycling. That's how Mark Cavendish (another tiny cyclist) sprints so effectively! : ) Cycling is so neat
Wow, she's an absolute rocket. Power way beyond her stature.
Laura also had endurance. Possibly her best event was the 4,000 metre pursuit.

Where did Trott make any sort of illegal move? I can't see one. And track racing is more of a contact sport than most think, if that's what you thought.

hammer has beaten trott in this same scenario, but in this race she had to work harder to not get eliminated so that final sprint just wasn't there. fantastic race all around

OMG !!!!!!! That was incredible ! And she wasnt even panting at the end ! Wooooo hooooo !!!!!!
The only potentially dodgy move I saw from Trott was a rather sharp move up, but it was a forced move to avoid another rider coming up that was in no way deserving of relegation. Bunch races are dangerous, deal with it.
she did it multiple times though....and then got dusted in the end.

Pretty hopeless. The man sounds like he's sleepwalking to the bathroom in the middle of the night, his voice muffled by a mouth full of cotton wool. Couldn't they have chosen someone who's at least half awake, and turned the background volume down a bit?

No brakes indeed....they use the slope of the track to regulate their speed....especially in sprint events

illegal and anti-athletic moves are different. Trying to scare riders behind you so they can't make a pass should become illegal, especially when it is repeatedly done on the final straight.

well you're much older now, but what would you be doing in the Gym, since the endurance.staimna and power are obv important.
