Mendel’s Pea Plant Experiment: Law of Segregation and Independent Assortment
In this session, I taught Gregor Mendel's classic Pea Plant experiment, focusing on his two fundamental principles-Law of Segregation and Law of Independent Assortment. We explored how Mendel's experiments with pea plants led to the discovery of genetic inheritance patterns, discussing the 3:1 ratio in monohybrid crosses and the 9:3:3:1 ratio in dihybrid crosses. Visual aids, punnett squares, and real-life examples were used to explain the segregation of alleles and how different traits are inherited independently. Students were encouraged to apply these concepts in solving various genetic problems.
