Biomass to liquids Process

Biomass to Liquid (BTL) is a multi-step process which produces liquid biofuels from biomass. BTL can use almost any type of biomass, with little pre-treatment other than moisture control because the feedstock is gasified in the first stage of the process. The gas produced is then treated further to cool, remove dust, adjust the ratio of the required gases, and desulfurize. Then the balanced syngas is used in the Fischer-Tropsch Reaction step. The liquid biofuel is generated after the long-chain paraffins is separated from light gas and water, and hydrocracked into short-chain paraffins. Here are the eight steps included in this animation: Gasification, Cooling, Dedust, H2/CO ratio adjustment, Desulfurization, Fischer-Tropsch Reaction, Separation, and Hydrocracking.
