I have a message for all of the men out there who are making fun of other men who are dancers... I have one simple request for you... Please effortlessly lift a girl over your head as if she weighs nothing more than a feature.... Please try it... I dare ya lol...
One of the greatest performances I've ever seen, I could be 90 years old and this routine would still be etched into my mind along with the awesome song!!
What amazes me about this dance is how smooth their transitions are. There is almost never a moment when they are not moving, no pauses for breath or collection just one continuous set of movements.
I love this performance not just because of the skill and awesomeness of the dancers but also because in the newer ones all the guys have short hair cuts and it's fun to see that 90's hair flip as the guys flip through the air every head turn it's like whoosh whoosh whoosh.
This never gets old for me. I watch this and it reminds me how spectacular this entire program was. The physical achievement alone is beyond belief. Add the choreography and tight music and it really soars.
The choreography is intense and it shows that it requires a lot of physical effort, but they have such grace to dance that they seem to have mastery of the air. Years and years of training, discipline and hard work. These girls/guys are awesome! ♥
Wow!... Just wow! After all of these years, I still just can't believe what I just saw here. I saw the original in Dublin, just not opening night, and every time I see this, it still amazes me!
Haha, same! I was a kid when I saw this for the first time and I was mesmerized. I told my parents back then that one day I would be able to dance like this. Turns out that I can barely walk in a straight line half the time, nevermind dance ^^
It is choreographed by Igor Moiseyev in 1994. Riverdance asked him to put the dance. He gratis did that and sent a group of his dancers(known now as "Moscow Folk Ballet Company") that they have taught Irish. But Riverdance lured those Russian dancers, and they became to dance in Riverdance(but very soon they were sacked). And now in the titles Moiseyev isn't an author. The result-Riverdance making money and not paying for author's rights.
Haha, this shows video came about the time I was born and whenever I was my usual fussy baby self my parents would put this on and I won't make a sound until it was over. Good times...
I remember growing up and wanting to be the chick in the blue outfit. Now as a 33 yr old I can confidently say my dog is as flexible as her. Maybe that counts for something? A German Shep Golden retriever lab mix that looks like a doberman and dances like a ballerina.
I'm no expert on ballet, but I'm sure this dance exemplifies why Russian ballet, with it's powerful and athletic dance is by far the best. Far more interesting to watch than French ballet, which is so rigid and form-centric. I don't think this original version of "Riverdance" was ever released on DVD. Michael Flatley fell out with the original producer after the VHS release and the show was tweaked to avoid lawsuits. Later DVD releases were a different show.
Technically, all ballet is French ballet. This is Russian folk dance with some ballet inspiration. The company that provided these dancers does equal training in ballet and folk dance.
Baji Kimran You are so right. All of these dancers originally come from highly intense, classical ballet training. They then enter the Moyiseev dance company. They continue the intense training.
German Russian American thank you so much for this vid, how am I just learning about this now? This is awesome, ypa Slava Rus cistera's, thank you for posting this hit like.
Excellent performance. Bravo! Only in this dance tunes all Irish and from former Soviet republics - Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan Russian tunes, such as "Kalinka", "Barynia" - no, unfortunately. Is it possible then that Popuri called Russian, even if wonderful dancers from Moscow, St. Petersburg ... Rather - Soviet (post-Soviet) And this is not about a single word! I wanna eat what those guys eat; maybe I will move like them.........who needs, maybe 20 years of 8 hours a day rehearsal ?.....on another note: magnificent ! when I see these guys dance like that, I am proud to be a human being !

I got my first concussion as a kid trying to recreate one of their flips. Good times. 😂
Boudicca 😂😂😂
Ctfu!! I can't believe I didn't break anything!! 😂😂😭😭
Let me guess, it was that cartwheel type flip with no hands wasn’t it?! 😅
So glad to know I'm not alone haha.
I tried doing those slightly hands free backflips and went down like a sack of potatoes lol
Ouch
They have to be amongst the greatest dancers in history!!!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤👋👋👋👋😂😂😂❤😂❤😂❤😂❤
This is 100% the best version of this by far! The people, choreography and music are the best in this original version.
My favorite part of this dance is 2:35-2:52... I love the way he flips that girl as if she is weightless...
So agree. I liked the original Riverdance far better than any of the later versions.
Sarah Sarah
Incorrect. Morning in Macedonia is better.
What were the names of the dancers?
@@beesmart4048 Did you ever find the original Russian Dervish dancers names? I've looked everywhere and have yet to find anything.
Watching this takes me back to being in the living room at 3 years old with a VHS player.
Same. More like 4 for me. And every year thereafter. I was obsessed lol
I have never had an original experience
LMFAO!!! SAME!!!! 😂🤣😣
Same! And I had two younger brothers to try and recreate the flips with! 😆
When this first aired on PBS, EVERYBODY was watching it. Riverdance was so major back in the day.
Dancing, and Russian-influenced dancing in particular, requires ungodly strength and endurance. *Boxers* don't need as much.
Russian dancers from Igor Moiseyev ballet in Moscow......brilliant !
Thank you! I always wondered who they were
That's what this dance is called?
@@eugenia6356no, just the school.
@@eugenia6356 It's Russian folk dance company, look for other their viudeos, they re amazing.
I'm speechless! Not just with the dancers, but with the musicians as well!
This makes me glad to be alive. The best dance performance of all damn time.

They make it looks so effortless, like gravity just takes a little break every time they leap or twirl.

@@jessicacampbell4142 And do those amazing handstand-backflips!
Former Igor Moiseyev ballet company dancers. Excellent !
One of the beast dancing acts I have seen ..lifted my heart forever x

Just completely amazing.

Natalie O'Connor Couldn’t agree more! They need to bring the 90s hair back 🙌🏻
Of all the Riverdance performances, I like the original, and this dance the best. Great music and great people !
My absolute favorite part of riverdance
Green Chicago med Sam did you

The sheer energy and quality is mesmerizing. I've watched so many times. THIS THE BEST VERSION
Amazing dance, respect to Russia! And that music is just something else :)
This is my favorite dance from this show(:
This never gets old for me. I watch this and it reminds me how spectacular this entire program was. The physical achievement alone is beyond belief. Add the choreography and tight music and it really soars.
so beautiful.
This is why I wanted to become a ballerina as a kid to be able to dance like them. Definitely my favorite out of all of the dances.
My buddy Joseph Larue likes balaika music from his country of Russia and said act number 10 the Russian dervish
Amazing and the audience reaction at the end says it all.
The choreography is intense and it shows that it requires a lot of physical effort, but they have such grace to dance that they seem to have mastery of the air. Years and years of training, discipline and hard work. These girls/guys are awesome! ♥
Omg I LOVE this dance. They look like they're having SO much fun out there. Definitely goofy...but still so amazing
The incredible dancing and incredible musicianship displayed here fills me with awe and admiration that anyone can achieve such perfection.
How could someone dislike this! It is above awesome!!!!!!!!! I grew up watching this with my grandpa and we LOVE them!!!!!!!!!
Makes me want to go to the gym... forever! They must be SO FIT.
Oh my gosh when I was kid I had such a crush on the guy who danced with the blue girl 😂

I'm so envious of the guys acrobatic moves. I'd love to learn to do those and I wish to see women do it. Those are the best moves
Amazing ,28 years from then ,still love it!!!!
Superb dancing, my favorite of the whole show.
1:25 how me and the squad walk into the club.

This is why you never ask a person from Moscow to a dance off . They will whip your ass with some serious shit
I remember watching this as a kid and having such a crush on the blue girl, this music is such a jam!
This number was fantastic! So much fun to watch!!!!!! I loved it! These guys are amazing.

I was watching this with my boyfriend and all through the Irish dancing he was like, anyone can do that. Then this came on, and he went very quiet. :)

These guys stole the show for me. Fantastic
I keep watching this hoping that third female dancer makes it all the way across the stage during her entrance. :-)
Any luck so far ?
Mihai Dumitrescu Alas no. She still hasn’t corrected herself.
Now THIS is what I call dancing!
I was so obsessed with the girl in the pink skirt! 😍
Fantastic, unforgettable. I could watch it 100 times.
I could watch this twice a day...every day.
