Cool list! I'm a bit worried about the amount of pokemon though. 7 basics means there's very little wiggle room to refill our bench once the opponent starts taking KOs. I get the appeal of the Beautifly, but between Grotle searching any of your pokemon and Arvens searching out any of your items (and energy by extension) and tools, I don't think it is needed. I DO like to run a 2/2 Line of Hisuian Lilligant V/VStar to make performing that initial wave of searching to get your Grotle engine set up so much easier. Whether VStar grabs the Grotle or Grotle grabs the VStar, using the V Power to grab a fistful of Turtwigs, Energy, and/or Support mons feels nice. You mentioned the Chien-Pao matchup, and an option that I've found that has worked pretty well for me so far is using a 2/1/1 Line of Toedscool, Toedscruel, and Toedscruel ex. Single Prize Toedscruel shuts off Superior Energy Retrieval and Pokestop for the opponent, so it makes it a lot harder for them to find the energy to KO the 2nd Torterra ex. And Toedscruel ex protects our tanky boy from any of those pesky insta KO attacks like Frenzied Gouging and Star Requiem.
OK, I hear your concern, and I started with Lilligant. The VSTAR one turn pop is cute but unreliable. They can also blow it up later for two prizes and reduce the number of ex Turtles we want them to go through. I do have the irl Lilligants in the binder, but they were not it. The basics didn't really matter. If you want more, I'd pitch TWO copies of the Shaymin from TEF. With two Rods, Grotle, and enough dedicated search, I had more positive findings with what I put out than most other builds tested. Dont even get me started on Whimsicott Beautifly is a really strong on-board presence as Iono proof. You need deeper digs, but you also need particular cards. This gives you best of both, but I can see concern. The list may morph to a thinner line in weeks time I will say the Toedscruel package is one I'm going to circle back to and test more. Shutting off Retrievals MAY be enough honestly. The Rabsca was preferred for today's build, but it's not a lock either. Appreciate the input, feedback, and tuning in to today's video. You definitely made some compelling cases to keep trying cards. Thank you greatly 😄
Hey could you send me your torterra-toedscruel deck list? I’ve been working on a toedscruel-ogerpon deck and it def needs tweaking. And this could be what I’m looking for :)
I almost came up with the same list. The Reversal Energy wasn't something I thought of, and Beautifly line I didn't know existed. I use Radiant Venusaur. It's not the best deck in format, but chaining Grotles is so fun!
Thanks for watching. I left the 60th card off intentionally to see who would notice. I did include it in the decklist in the description. The 60th card is honestly a flex spot. Consistency, gust, or higher counts all work. I have it as a second Counter Catcher 😁
played against someone with this deck but they fit a kricketune in , it was very strong with the health boost . guess i just gotta squeeze that in and im set .

Think this deck will break through to tier 1 status after we get bug catcher's set from maquerade? Look at the top 7 for any combination of grass pokemon and basic grass energy and put them into hand.
I definitely think it's a substantial improvement. You really don't want to be playing Ultra Ball. Heavy Commitment with Catcher, Nest, and Great Ball might give this deck the set up it sorely lacks. It's also extremely important to not overlook Grass Ogrepon. A one or Two of with some grass can provide cheap draw as well as a harder hitter the deck lacks. I'm excited to try it out
@@goonsquadtcg the green mask looks so strong, I think some versions are a little too heavy in the full heal line. But being able to play a sculpted line of 1-1 whimsicott and the bench barrier stage 1. Grottle is such a power house engine for toolbox style game play. I really think there is some numbers to tweak but I will be jamming this deck as soon as twilight masquerade is on ptcgo.
I run a different torterra ex deck and I use pokemon league headquarters since the attackers are always evolved. Helps against iron hands and miraidon decks
I just got into competition PTCG and ran this deck. Either I'm playing it wrong or it can't stack up against Entei V, because I got absolutely stomped.
Entei V counters this deck VERY hard. It is probably the single worst card you could run up against with this deck, except maybe Incineroar ex. Torterra's value comes from surviving big hits long enough to take prizes. Entei V hits you for weakness, which means you won't usually survive any hits from it. Normally the counterplay is to just not bench pokemon because that is what makes Entei hit harder. But Torterra needs a full bench of pokemon in order to do damage.
Entei absolutely blows this deck up. I mentioned several times in the video that we have no real answer for fire. You can use the EVO Press with enough setup and not put the ex into play, but it'll be tough. I'd honestly pitch just taking the calculated losses to Incineroar, Entei, and maybe Gouging Fire. Chien Pao, being so popular, will keep them in check more than we could ever hope to do. Also, welcome aboard. Hopefully, you like the competitive pokemon TCG and thank you for tuning in 😁
@@goonsquadtcgcan you make a video of showing how to play this deck? Entei V, and the Raging Bolt EX/Garganacl make it near impossible to build up enough Grass types to make TorterraEX strong enough.

A nice tech if you run bibarrel and hit 150 is to run super effective glasses to ohko charizard still
Super-effective is really nice. If you want to hone in on Charizard, I support this one

Too many things OHKO in the format to make the bench spots worthwhile
Such a small energy pool scares me.
