Mozart shows such a fine understanding of the contrasting characters of the violin and viola, especially in the second movement where the lyrical lines of the violin are underpinned so beautifully by the solid warm chords of the viola. And these two players understand that too!
I love this piece! The two sound great together. If I closed my eyes I wouldn't be able to tell that O'Neill was bouncing around and action-crouching like he's in some sort of shooter video game....! That was a little bit distracting, and Huang seemed to be able to draw [equally] such a pure and lively tone while standing almost still. I guess it's just how you're brought up and taught over the years. Look at Janine Jansen with her famous hair-flick! Hilary Hahn doesn't need to do that ridiculous motion to give us a brilliant rendition but Janine does. It could be for comfort. I stopped listening to Nigel Kennedy because his constant foot stomping took over the music and is a real shame. If I paid to see him in concert and could hear his stomps prominently I would ask...no, *demand* my money back! Overall, I love these guys and would love to hear more duos. Perhaps Handel-Halvorsen's Passacaglia if they haven't recorded it already? Bartok? The Two-Part Inventions of Bach? :)
Bravo!! What a delight to see and hear. Certainly some of the best Mozart I’ve come across. Also pop off Richard O’Neill 😤😤 #violagang
Exceptionally brilliant rendering of Mozart's exceptionally brilliant writing for violin and viola

Nobody... (Nobody) writes viola lines the way Mozart does.
Ditto!
