    These are both tremendous games, I think,most are going to favor Turtles in Time and rightly so its more like the arcade version and is the namesake. But Hyperstone Heist is it's own experience and SEGA diehards that were Turtles fans hold it closer to their hearts. The more more difficult debate I think would be between the opposing tournament fighter games. Those are so completely different and I can't decide which I like better.

    I just got done playing Hyperstone Heist. I was one stage away from shredding the Shredder. Great game that stands its own against Turtles in Time, one of my all-time favorite SNES games.

    First off, I love the video!!!! Actually just found your profile and I love your Videos!!! Okay, now, back in the day I had a Genesis and my neighbor had and SNES. Back in the day, this was the best combo. We spend so much time at each others 2 player machine with this game. Hyperstone Heist at first seemed worse, but in time it seemed better to both me and my neighbor. The Genesis version just seemed to be smoother and faster. It also seemed the turtles had different performance (speed, attack, etc.) in Hyperstone Heist. Too me Genesis wins in overall playability, SNES wins in presentation with exclusion to the frames and animation being a bit better on the Genesis.

    Both games are awesome and among my top 10 favorites for both systems. I have a lot of nostalgia for the Hyperstone Heist as I rented that one a lot from Blockbuster back in the day and eventually bought it and then finally beat it, but I have to give a slight edge to Turtles in Time as it feels a little bit balanced as far as gameplay and controls go and is slightly more addicting, even though the Slash turtle always gives me trouble.

    • @CJTranceAddiction
      @CJTranceAddiction 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @YTCensorsMe Poop Yeah, that actually makes a lot of sense. I'm just wondering why Konami decided to "cheat" the genesis owners like this. I mean, an entire stage is like dedicated to a bunch of boss fights we have already fought. It was such a waste of time. So much potential wasted.

    AS somebody who grew up with a Genesis and not a SNES, as someone who loved the Turtles and owned Hyperstone Heist as a kid, Turtles in Time is way better. Hell, I'd even say that the SNES Turtles in Time is better than the arcade because of the additional and expanded content, although with the arcade obviously having better graphics, sound, and 4 player capabilities, it's close.

    • @StaticTV80
      @StaticTV80 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah the snes version is easier and slower, the Genesis is too fast

    • @JoePants
      @JoePants 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@StaticTV80 The Genesis game plays fine, it's just a slog. There's only 4 levels and they are very long levels, and the last level is just a boss rush. The best and only unique thing in the game is they have a Tatsu boss fight, I don't think he's in any other game, and it's nice to see something from the movies.

    I feel that Turtles in Time's 6th stage boss, Slash, represents too much of a difficulty spike. I like Turtles in Time equally as Hyper Stone Heist, but I just wanted to note that.
    I also REALLY appreciate the dash button. I dunno how useful it was for you since the gens has a garbage tier controller, but using a modern controller on an emulator, it's awesome.

      But the game is easier overall, specially due to that, but mainly due to the AI taking too much time to attack.

      Forced to run with button push ruins the gamplay for me on the genesis.
      2 x forward feels so much natural and works way better, especially for people that grow up with SNK 2D Fighters that supported Dash & Run.
      The Buttons on the Genesis Pad got to much distance, there is no good solution.
      Even when you change it like:
      A Jumps, B Dash, C Attack...........now the gap is small, but theres a long distance between Jump and Attack.
      All this slow down fast players like me.

      REALSlutHunter try playing it on an emulator. I’ve played Hyperstone Heist on a genesis emulator with a SNES controller and you’ll love button dash. I found turtles in time to be a fun game but the combat wasn’t as crisp as HH. I can pull off any move and have total control of my mobility in HH whereas in TIT I found myself inadvertently running and getting out of position far too often thanks to the auto dash when holding the dpad.

    As a Genesis owner I have to grudgingly admit the SNES version is superior in almost every way. I prefer the faster gameplay on the Genesis, but the level variety, sound, and ability to throw characters at the screen all make Turtles in Time the 16-bit version to own.

      +Cannot be Tamed the control scheme on Genesis is not as good either. It only caters to the 3 button controller and not the 6-button. Did you know that beating Turtles in Time on the Hardest difficulty gets u the ending from the Turtles in Time Arcade game? Not really a huge bonus but worth it

      hunter371 its a challenge as on the hardest difficulty, you start off with fewer lives and the AI is tougher.
      I learned of this after beating the Turtles in Time Arcade game recently. That"s why on the console versions if u beat it on default or lesser difficulty, Splinter will challenge u at the end to beat it on a harder difficulty

    I absolutely love turtles in time and hyperstone heist. I love how they are similar yet have small differences. I think that the idea of one being better than the other is really down to opinion. Each game brings something to the table the other doesn’t have. ToT has better audio and mode 7, Sega has a exclusive level with an awesome song.

    I was mostly a Sega kid growing up, but I agree that Turtles in Time was the better game for all the reasons you pointed out. I was also a big fan of Konami during the 16-bit era, and find this comparison really fascinating. I'd be interested in seeing your thoughts comparing Contra III: The Alien Wars with Contra: Hard Corps (which I feel is the better game), and Super Castlevania IV vs. Castlevania: Bloodlines (which is actually my favorite Castlevania, largely due to the awesome and woefully underappreciated soundtrack).

    Cool video, yeah Turtles in time is the superior game to Hyperstone Heist which feels like a bootleg Turtles in Time but it's not bad I suppose. Btw regarding the control element, actually in turtles in time there is a control option to have 3 buttons via the configuration options. You can have the special move as A so you have 3 buttons to use, Y for attack, B for jumping and A for youe special move. They give you a few different options.

      Tucan Estudios It actually isn't short. It just feels shorter. While Hyperstone Heist has 5 levels, as opposed to 10 in Turtles In Time, the levels in HH are MUCH longer with 4 of the 5 levels consisting of 3 sections each. In reality both games takes just about the same time to beat.

      hossain shahriar No it isn't. The SNES version of Turtles in time has less frames of animation and less detail on the characters. Hyperstone Heist definitely plays, looks, and moves smoother.

    I can agree that Turtles in Time was better than Hyperstone Heist, even though, I can say that HH was slightly more fun to play. The biggest advantage T.I.T. had over HH was that you can throw enemies off the screen. One fun fact: Hyperstone Heist had Master Tatsu from the first TMNT live action film. I recently received Hyperstone Heist for my Genesis today and played through it briefly on normal level. I immediately noticed it was more difficult than my Turtles In Time, even on the hardest setting, which I can breeze right through (hardest boss fight was with Slash, for me at least.). On Hyperstone Heist, I got destroyed by Tatsu's second fight (the one in the cave). I actually appreciate the difficulty! However, you're totally right about the controls. I've grown so used to double tapping to charge that having to actually press a button to do it, with the original Genesis control pad, was a bit tedious and like you, found myself doing it less than I would on the SNES version of the game.
    I'm planning to pick up an official 6 button controller to see if that helps. Most of my control issues come from the awkward button layout. The graphics and sounds are what you'd expect from any Genesis game. Sometimes they can be good and sometimes not so good. Regardless, I'm happy to have this game in my collection at a fraction of the going price on ebay.

    I like the Genesis game better just because it is it's own game exclusive to the Genesis and wasn't an arcade port, and the gameplay is better and faster. Snes might look and sound a bit better but it came out well after the Genesis version, so they could easily improve in those areas and they really didn't shine much compared to the competition. The turtles themselves look better on the Genesis game though. Sega wins this one for me, although I do like both of them alot.

    • @bumblebee2511

      They've got their advantages. Turtles in Time lets you throw enemies at the screen, never seem to be able to do that in Hyper Stone Heist. This IS important to the gameplay, because slamming enemies back and forth is superior functionally, but offers less points (throwing enemies at the screen nets you 3 points in Turtles in Time).
      Points lead to lives, so there's an element of strategy in Turtles in Time not present in Hyper Stone Heist.
      Bosses have more personality to them gameplay wise in Turtles in Time, bosses like Shredder in the background, tricking Toka and Razar into attacking each other, ect.
      Hyperstone Heist has one BIG advantage though: Dash button.

    I own both games, they make a great little 2 game marathon (or if you have MAME, you can play the 2 arcades on that to lengthen the marathon, or throw in TMNT 3 NES to add even more length). Both games are good in their own way, though I felt Konami copped out on the Genesis version by adding a boss rush of bosses you've already beaten (leave the boss rush to Gradius Konami, it fits there, and each boss is not a rehash of that games defeated bosses).

    Love these games :) . In Turtle in Time you can do some moves while dashing . Some kind of front handspring with the A button I think, a slide on the back with arms and legs crossed I think ( called the snake ifI remember ) with the X button, and the shoulder hit with the Y button, and what's cool is that you can do some handspring and then trigger the snake or shoulder hit. You can also avoid hits while running all over the place in handspring move ( not 100 % sure of this one , or maybe not all hits ) :) .
    I don't know if it's the same for hyperstone heist.

    Good review. Anything involving the turtles and beat em ups (I see you also reviewed Streets of Rage 2) is worth taking a look, and your video randomly popped up in my 'videos you should watch' thing.
    Only minor critique I would say is you should have mentioned that the Turtles could throw the Foot towards the screen in the SNES game but not the Genesis game.
    Anyways, subbed. Keep up the good work.

    Having played both games again recently with emus, I prefer the Hyperstone Heist. While less challenging and maybe shorter, the Hyperstone Heist felt more refined in gameplay, graphics aren't looked as washed out, and sound effect is way better. I find myself having more fun with Hyperstone Heist than Turtles in Time.

    To be honest I liked them both equally. I had an SNES growing up, but didn't have Turtles in Time so I missed out on both games until much later in life so my only experience with it was at an arcade. Basically they're both solid games to play if you're playing games from one console or the other today. If I had to choose, it would be the SNES game. On two games that are so closely related like this where most things are on par between the two, sound is often the deciding factor for me. Rather than catering specifically to the Genesis sound chip (some Genesis games do sound better than their SNES counterparts), they ported it over and while the results were really good, the Genesis sound chip just wasn't made for it.

    A lot of people don’t know this but while the SNES had slightly better graphics than the Sega genesis the Sega was a faster system, which is why games like Sonic could have the characters zip around the stage super fast; meanwhile in Super Mario World it’s a slower game than even Super Mario 3 for the NES.

  • @amzrigh
    @amzrigh 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Turtles in Time was my very first SNES game!
    Interesting aside to this comparison -- usually, you expect arcade games to outshine their console adaptations, with their more powerful and better optimized hardware. And while the arcade version of Turtles in Time does look a little prettier and sound a little nicer, the SNES version is the better game by far! They made some real design improvements in the months between the two releases.
    It's also kinda interesting to see that Hyperstone Heist reverted to having the pizza monsters as the boss of the sewer level like the arcade game.

    I also was a massive Turtles fan growing up, and you nailed this. I enjoyed Turtles in Time way more. I bought it, and only remember renting the Hyperstone game for a weekend. You mentioned how the sound was flatter on the Genesis. Everything I've read indicates the Genesis sound chip was inferior to the one in the Super NES, and only Sega really knew how to get the most out of it. But they were still both, and your guided tour down memory lane for me was highly enjoyed.

      Some what right. Sega tried to make easier for Western Developers to use the FM Synthesizer especially one without programming exp . So they created a program called GEMS. Which offered some generic sound effects, sounds and music. The program had customization but what happened most times is they went the easy route. So a lot ( not all) that used this music editor sounded inferior. In the right hands the Genesis sound chip could and did produce excellent music and sound.

    Hyperstone heist is superior in input response and general ease of combat. It does lack certain gameplay mechanics and is kind of a crammed game, BUT despite much shorter game length and mechanics I found it to be much more enjoyable. Only negative thing about hyper stone is the gaunlet. Also, the level leading up to the boss flight with shredders second hand man from the live action movies is my favorite from the whole series. The train level in turtles in time is probably my favorite from that version

    Constructive criticism here, but for review purposes I believe that capturing footage without using graphical filters would be a better option. It's hard to give an accurate review of the graphics when there is a filter changing how it looks by itself.
