    For those that believe Lars is unhappy here. I believe on the contrary. I think he is overcome with emotion from the response, and so is trying to keep his feelings in check. Last time he was at Cannes, things went very badly, and he was banned for a while. Now, this was his triumphant return. In spite of a few walk-outs (which is NOT uncommon at Cannes for a controversial film), the positive response outweighs the negative one here. He likely did not expect to be applauded so enthusiastically.

    • @1chienandalou
      @1chienandalou 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree at least partially. Maybe he did or maybe he didn't but it's a moment for him for sure. People are interpreting his behavior here so simplistically. And as you note there is a lot that refers to his previous Cannes experience here.
      For context on this film and how he feels about it or even in general about LvT, I liked this interview; if you haven't read it you may find it interesting: uniavisen.dk/en/lars-von-triers-library-of-pleasurable-things/

    To people being offended for feeling disgusted by the film: aren’t you supposed to be disgusted by a film about a serial killer? I mean, really... if anything it says something about how people, have come to expect violence to be some fun entertainment...

      what does "offended" mean though, because it's quite natural for people to dislike or decide to stop watch (walk out) something that disgust them. I don't think they were expecting entertainment, they just weren't expected to be so disgusted

    • @yesman2407

    OMG, i still cannot believe Bruno Ganz is gone. I just got to know him from Downfall movie. I just love this actor. Poor man having Colon cancer at 77 years of age. He died a year after this festival. I think that he looks like a very sweet and good man. Take a look at his eyes. He had very kind and intelligent eyes. I hope he is rejoicing in heaven

    I've just seen the movie, and I found it unbelievable, Matt's performance actually amazed me. It was like seeing Jim Carrey plays a serial killer. In fact, they look alike a bit. On the other hand, Von Trier is famous for being a difficult director to work with, however we didn't have any controversial stories or scandal behind the curtain at all. So, Lars you did a good job.

      He has serious social anxiety and you can see that perhaps. It's just not his most comfortable moment. And it's no secret he has some level of existential depression and mental health issues. Consider that this might be his "last film" or at least a break for a while, it's an emotional moment for him and I can see how he'd feel kind of conflicted and anxious, especially at Cannes.
      Its not exactly a world where happiness makes sense. Some of us see this way and we don't expect to "recover" until it's all over.
      Hope this is not too dark for you.

    • @1chienandalou

      Hans Meiser, I don't understand how you reached that conclusion from just a video. What was your process of differential diagnosis?
      It's rhetorical. I know you're not an expert in the area nor are intimately familiar with Parkinsons in another way. I would suggest it is uncalled for and possibly even unkind to armchair-diagnose people with diseases that people and their loved ones do suffer from. Even professionals in the area (such as myself) like neurologists or neuropsychologists refrain from it. And what if you are right that he develops Parkinsons? Will you be all "told you so!". Just in poor taste all around andI hope you will reconsider such comments in the future

    0:32 Jesus Christ why are his hands shaking so violently?

    • @OmegaChoad
      @OmegaChoad 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It started coming on a few seconds before the shaking, he felt it starting and clasped his hands, seconds later he brings the hands apart to see if his hands are ok and that's when we see him shaking so yes he's he's with anxiety. he then realises that having his hands clasped together in front of him is a sign of being nervous or insecure, or a sign of not being proud and fearless. His father may have been the type of man who be like "shoulders back chest out hands down by your side anything else looks weak".

    It's mad how awkward this is, none of them really want to be in that particular position for so long. Yes they want to win and be celebrated, but not like this. This is fucken horrible holy shit. I'd go pure red in the face and my eyes would go watery, people would think I'm crying. Lars handled it much better than the rest but started feeling the awkwardness half way through the video. This whole tradition of standing there clapping for so long at this award ceremony is painful for every single person involved but it's an old tradition and no one is brave enough to change it.
