Having good drip is also part of the lore, brother. Art and beauty may not be encouraged in the grimdark, but even the emperor understands that humans are also creative creatures and need to express their creativity through art. This is why every space marine chapter has their distinctive colors, logos, symbols, litanies, custom paint jobs, statues of their heroes and so on. Even in a culture dominated by war and violence, creativity still shines. So paint your space marine, brother, and make him wear the proud colors and insignia of his chapter!
I only started recently one thing that had me puzzled was communicating with the machine spirit, well i think he was talking to it as i could have sworn he referred to the voice as a machine spirit
@@EastyyBlogspotit’s true to an extent where “Machine spirit” is equivalent to a highly sophisticated “Hey Siri” “Hey Google” command prompt and they’re coded to respond to the ritual style awakenings
@@EastyyBlogspotits questionable for the most average techs, other than that its like a will left behind by the soul of a person or the very soul itself. Machinery that requires a human like a servitor likely has a machine spirit, the most obvious example of machine spirits being real are Titans and Imperial knights, upon death the soul would go to the warp but not for these constructs. Faith would also have this effect, relics of worship way have a certain power to them.
That's a good point probably should have mentioned those when I talked about at the mechanicus. So the mechanicus believes that all machines have a soul referred to as a machine spirit that needs to be appeased and respected in order for it to cooperate. Aggressively oversimplifying it here but if you do not anoint your gun with the proper sacred oils and give thanks for its service, it is more likely to jam in combat. Same logic can be applied to everything from a humble las rifle all the way up to the warp drives in their void ships. Although some people look at this as superstition, it has been documented on numerous occasions to at least hold some element of truth. Landraiders that have had their entire crew killed have continued to fight on regardless and many ships seem to have a personality and sentience of their own. Some particularly wrathful machine spirits within knights and Titans can be almost too bloodthirsty and really difficult to control. Some people in the 40k community believe that machine spirits are simply misunderstood AI but in my research I have not actually come across a source that confirms this nor gives anything in the way of supporting details for the theory. So as of right now that's just a fan theory. One that I'll admit makes sense on paper, but one that doesn't have any evidence to support it.

@@usernamed0189 It's still there. The Space Wolves did attack the planet, but they weren't sent there to do that. The Emperor just wanted Magnus bringing to Tera to face justice. Horus tricked them into thinking the Emperor actually wanted them to attack, but they didn't blow it up. Horus wanted to force the Thousand Sons to join Chaos - which they did to avoid being wiped out. It was declared a dead world because The Thousand Sons left to a Daemon World, and I think that's just what they call planets that the traitor legions owned. Great vide🙏🏾 I finished the SM2 story mode (Angel Of Death) but came in blind about the vast lore! I appreciate your time and effort with making this video!
Dude as a complete noob to space marine ( haven’t even downloaded it yet) this was great to sit and watch like a whole new universe to get to know thanks for the introduction
With the Lord of Change: My headcannon is that, somewhere down the line, in his millennia of studies and sorcery, Immurah could have potentially learned the greater demons True Name, and bended it to his will, but consequently, and through Tzeentchs tom-foolery, ultimately negating it's overall power, but still proving to be a massive threat. After all, while the final boss fight does take place IN the Warp, the dev's have stated that it's Immurah's own pocket realm.
I really like these types of videos. Its great for new people and people who have been here a while. As for the Lord of Change that appears in Space Marine 2. I don't actually believe that was a Lord of Change but an illusion conjured up by Imurah to try and scare the Ultramarine/Cadian Guard as it just did some minor things like cast Warp Fire and smash the ground. It only shows up once Imurah gets that huge power boost and it also takes no damage from the towers when we turn the artifacts. Also when we actually fight Imurah only his HP Bar is present and not the Greater Daemon and when we deal sufficient damage to Imurah the illusion breaks and he appears and the Lord of Change vanishes. This just screams Imurah trying to flex his power and make people believe he is stronger than he actually is.
It shoots a massive bolt of energy at the advancing ultramarine column that definitely sends a tank flying and kills a bunch of dudes so even if it's an illusion it's a functioning one
@@prisoner817 Everything that illusion did Imurah could have done with ease. Especially after he started channeling the power of the artifact. The point I was making was that it wasn't a Greater Daemon rather an illusion conjured by Imurah. As a true Lord of Change would have snapped its fingers and everyone on that battlefield would have been dead or warped beyond recognition. What gives this more credence is the fact that the Lord of Change we see in Space Marine 2 doesn't have it own health bar and is directly linked to Imurah. Any damage we dealt to it damaged Imurah. The fight in the game though was a ton of fun.
30 years of lore and books...Why hasn't this become a movie franchise by now? I know Henry Cavill going to star in a Warhammer show soon, but damn there seems to be so much potential here.
The show will probably (hopefully) not happen because both Cavill and GW can't seem to agree with amazon about the very questionable changes to the lore amazon wants to make. For all their faults, GW are quite protective about their IP and what they'll allow when outsourcing their product. I personally think it would be better if the amazon show never happens because they are a soulless company that care more about profit, but most of all pushing "the narrative" which has corrupted every single fictional setting these big companies like disney, netflix & amazon can get their hands on.
Mainly because the game work shop doesn't want any real changes in a cinematic universe, and they'd want to control every second of every production. In short, they're REALLY defensive of their IP its also y we don't get AAA 40k games every year and stuff like that
Game workshop doesn’t want a repeat of what’s happening to other franchises like Ring of power. They are super protective of their IP. Which I can respect.
That's a pretty big question that I've been asking myself for years but I think it has to do with the fact that it's so big. Like where would they even start? I've always thought it would be best to start small. Do a lower budget show about an inquisitor or a rogue trader and gradually introduce more of the grandiose 40K elements over time. I know my idea is not what Hollywood would want to hear though lol. If anything we're probably getting a get a Space Marine show in the same vein as the games.
I approve of the entire video. I honestly don't think there was is any misinformation. Seriously amazing work. Now, I just want to say that the Necrons are tied with humanity for the best race. I totally want SM 3 to have Necrons. Maybe it will have a story similar to SM 1 where we fight Chaos, then them, or Necrons, then Chaos. I want a temporary alliance just to stick it to Chaos.
I was inspired by Event Horizon, it being one of my favorite childhood movies. Some people even said that it was also the inspiration of the devs who created 40K. When the ship achieved faster than light travel, it actually went into the warp. In the movie it was described as what we conceptually think Hell would look like. Then when the ship reappeared back from that dimension, it was actually possessed by an evil that the space faring humans could not comprehend. Anyway, I’ve always loved this stuff, Doom was also a favorite of mine, first PC game I ever played was Doom. I recommend everyone give Event Horizon a rewatch, it was way ahead of its time. They said that the footage of the warp or Hell was so graphic and horrifying that test audiences couldn’t handle it. That footage is sitting in a file in some editors closet collecting dust and id probably give my left testicle to watch it.
After playing Space Marines 2, this a whole new realm of lore for me. It’s quite fascinating learning about the Necrontyr and The Old Ones. Learning about how they conquered death and the war in heaven etc. And now learning about the Adeptus Astartes, what a world of lore.
Great video, exactly what I was looking for after completing the campaign and totally agree with the big bird guy not being portrayed as a much bigger threat but still awesome and loved the game as a fairly new 40k fan
I know this might be slightly off topic, but that pic of Guilliman smoking a cig with the Emperor’s Sword is hilarious. Which is kinda extra funny knowing his anatomy, that the cig with do nothing for him

Thanks for the video Wes I listend to your video as a podcast, so maybe you mentioned it and I didn’t realise. I don’t you talked about what a compagny is. That a space marine chapter is composed of 1000 SM and that a compagny is made a 100 of them. So before reinforcements were needed because of the Chaos, to hold a full scale tyranid invasion the imperium send only 100 SM.
SM2 got me into warhammer and I thank you for this video, this helped me with lots of questions I've had when playing SM2 Warhammer lore is way deeper than I thought and amazing to explore. Have a sub from me!

All new guys welcome, if you catch some flak on the way in, we love this franchise alot and are very defensive, but if you’re interested, weshammer is a great place to start
So something that I feel could be very interesting for this channel that hit me during the outro of not knowing how to approach something from the view of a newcomer. The idea (which could take many forms) would be as something like SM2 comes out, probe the community for said newcomers. Say after a video like this, during the outro ask if there is some lore someone new, brought to the video from the game, is curious on. It could be a simple back and forth question video. It could be a "hey, so someone asked this question, so here's a deep-dive." Or something else entirely. It could be long-form, or short. Depending on the depth of questions. For me, I am EXTREMELY new to the lore community. You were the first lore channel I poked and proded around on (and binged all of the mid-to-long-form content within a month.) I had known about the game, but not the lore. And it has been a fun ride. I literally came into the community knowing very little, and what I knew, was wrong. I knew of nothing of the God-Emporer beyond the literal skeletal picture of him on the Golden Throne in his emanciated form, and him being called the God-Emporer. And then learned he is actually a decently written character. Not some megalomaniac wanting nothing but to be all-powerful.
So one the best warhammer experiences i had recently was playing this game with a friend that was really new to 40k lore. I finished the game first so before each mission i would give a little background of things that are not explained in the game without spoiling anything but just inserting crucial information that would be obvious to someone that know the setting that if i mentioned x, y will happen and after the mission i would clarify and point out key elements and how they relate. After the introduction, he didn’t what scale a conflict in 40k can reach , so when he asked who were cadians , it was a trip and such funny moment when i gave the backstory of the fall of cadia and watching him becoming flabbergasted when i said: then, they threw a colossal ship into the planet and the planet was shattered. The planet broke before the guard. To then proceed to next few missions and having him roaring for cadia when they were pushing at the bridge when a day ago he would not have the same excitement without the context. Such amazing game to introduce people and to entice player to know more about what and why things are happening

You have single handedly encouraged people to create their own fan works in the greater Warhammer 40K fandom by breaking this down so effectively. Mad support, Wes. I look forward to the next video.
Every video I watch answers a few questions and asks a dozen more
The amount of information you crammed into a video of this length is incredible. By far the best warhammer lore guy
as a super new person this is certainly appreciated
No sir... Ain't got none of those questions. I already know the answers. Just love watching your content💯💯
51:27 forgot to mention that Big E ordered Magnus' arrest only, instead of what Horus manipulated Leman Russ to do in Prospero.
I actually just got into the warhammer 40k fandom this year after stumbling on one of your lore videos. I'm looking forward to playing Space Marines 2
As someone who just started getting into the lost about a year ago see a refresher video is nice
Made my morning - The emperor protects!
YES, MY CHILD.
I got into this fandom at a really good time. I started to actually get into WH40K a couple of months before Space Marine 2 was announced, and it's so cool to both understand a lot of the lore and to help newcomers start out, for whatever that looks like for them
I have been playing and following Warhammer for over 30 years and I still learned new points on this and gave me a catch up on some of the newer lore. Love your content and well presented every time
I started watching your reels on Facebook! I really appreciate all the work you do. Definitely my favorite warhammer streamer keep up the great work
Space marine 2 got me interested in 40k when the trailers came out. And weshammer launched me into the abyss now I watch all his videos and have been reading a lot of 40k books. Keep up the great content man!!
A combination of watching SM2, dipping into Boltgun on PS4, going to a Warhammer store in London, and Weshammer videos made me get into the books. Eisenhorn Omnibus is a great series and just finished the first book. Anyone just starting out, the books are great!
Even having been involved with Warhammer 40k since the early days i still enjoyed the video. Helps work be not so dull. Keep up the amazing work.
I found your channel right after playing space marines 2 with your timeline video reccomended to me. Now I'm halfway through your content. It makes my drives to and from places amazing thank you
Love Wes and his lore deep dives👍👍👍
If you love this universe don't sleep on another content creator: Baldermort
Combo of lore and fan fiction that is next level. Best of gaming and life!
Baldy is amazing. Not only is this content great but he is a genuinely really nice person. I message him on discord probably about once a month with questions about certain books and he's always super knowledgeable and happy to share his wisdom❤
@@weshammer That's one of the things I love about this scene! We all wanna help each other geek out over this crazy messed up universe. Thanks for your help in letting us geek out together brother Wes!🙏🤘
Baldy is great, love his imaginative, fun, and educational stories. Also love how he and his daughter work together occasionally. And you can tell him I said that!
Thanks so much for this video and it's perfect timing for me that you uploaded this yesterday as i just beat the game today!
I had SO MANY questions about wtf was going on but the game was so awesome that none of those questions detracted from the experience. Great game, great video!
I've been addicted to your content after playing this game! I am really getting into Warhammer now, thanks to you. Keep making amazing content like this! A lot of people appreciate you.
Thanks for the Video Librarian Wes!!! your doing all our New Brothers and Sisters a great service
I was introduced to your channel through a friend. As I have become very fascinated with 40K after playing Space Marines 2. Thank you for all the content you have made of 40K, so a newbie like me can know more about it!
A great summary of 40k as a whole. It's a refresher as someone like me has started the journey thanks for space marine 2 several weeks ago. Your videos have been awesome Wes
Boo, Leandros, BOOO
I love it! "Titus, if you even fart in the wrong direction, your ass is mine."
@@rev1ctionMeathammer40k 😳
Why hate Leandros?
@@Gfish17 bc Leandros is Leandros.
duhh
@@rexisright I will take it as you have no actual reason then. It's Not often for one can resist the touch of Chaos Brother. You'd best avoid the touch of Chaos.
Titus touched chaos and came out the other side. Watch him brother.
Nah fr answered any question I had through the game! Thanks for the amazing video ❤
13:24 that is definitely Jason statham as a space marine
yess!!!! I got into into the 40k universe after playing the game... I love it.. I think, I have watched every video and youtube shorts you have uploaded. thanks for explaining the lore!
Me: TIME TO WRECK THIS XENOS SCUM
Also me: *SPENDS 3 HOURS TRYING TO MAKE THE PRETTIEST MARINE TO EVER MARINE*
Having good drip is also part of the lore, brother. Art and beauty may not be encouraged in the grimdark, but even the emperor understands that humans are also creative creatures and need to express their creativity through art. This is why every space marine chapter has their distinctive colors, logos, symbols, litanies, custom paint jobs, statues of their heroes and so on. Even in a culture dominated by war and violence, creativity still shines.
So paint your space marine, brother, and make him wear the proud colors and insignia of his chapter!
For Space Marine 3, Necrons as the Xenos antagonists and the Emperor’s Children as the main Chaos villains.
I only started recently one thing that had me puzzled was communicating with the machine spirit, well i think he was talking to it as i could have sworn he referred to the voice as a machine spirit
They kind of deify machines...in the name of the Omnissiah!
@@KuPaoChicken i always thought the Machine spirit was a nebulous thing neither confirmed or denied ...unless that has changed
Great overview! I’ll be sending these to a few friends that are just now getting into 40k through SM2.
Just got into warhammer a year ago, first game being inquisitor martyr and Vermintide and instantly fell in love. Between this channel and imperial iterator channel I have an idea of what legion I like the most.
WesHammer's Dark Lore/Lore/Deep Dive/Grim Dark/History always hits the sweets spot whenever i go to sleep i always leave the video on continue while i sleep
I'm a 50 year old just now getting into 40K. Thank you for explaining everything about this universe so brilliantly. You have made a diehard fan of this entire culture..
For me my favorite dreadnought is the Contemptor Pattern one.
I like facing the 999 Offsprings XD
Thanks Weshammer! I tried explaining all of this to my frie-brother in arms, and I just couldn’t due to the fact that there is just SO MUCH to bring up! So this helps a lot!
The Space Wolves were sent to arrest Magnus, not destroy the planet. That was Horus shenanigans.
So, is Prospero still there? Like, it is not some broken pieces of rock floating in space?
@@usernamed0189 It's still there. The Space Wolves did attack the planet, but they weren't sent there to do that. The Emperor just wanted Magnus bringing to Tera to face justice. Horus tricked them into thinking the Emperor actually wanted them to attack, but they didn't blow it up. Horus wanted to force the Thousand Sons to join Chaos - which they did to avoid being wiped out. It was declared a dead world because The Thousand Sons left to a Daemon World, and I think that's just what they call planets that the traitor legions owned. Magnus rules the planet again now, and he's trying to rebuild.
Please, I love the woofy bois, but Russ hated Magnus so much he didn't question the order change, and even his own attempts to negotiate were half assed.
@@tokukeitaro that’s true, but I thought it was important to point out that the emperor didn’t send them to destroy the planet. Especially given his plans for Magnus.
Yeah, I imagine Weshammer skipped this nuance for time, because he DOES mention it, in another one of his lore videos
Is it finally time for a deathwatch deep dive soon? Love the videos btw!
With the Lord of Change:
My headcannon is that, somewhere down the line, in his millennia of studies and sorcery, Immurah could have potentially learned the greater demons True Name, and bended it to his will, but consequently, and through Tzeentchs tom-foolery, ultimately negating it's overall power, but still proving to be a massive threat. After all, while the final boss fight does take place IN the Warp, the dev's have stated that it's Immurah's own pocket realm.
I’m starting my salamander successor homebrew chapter and your lore videos are helping me immensely
@@Zenphoshen hmm makes sense
It was definitely Imurah trying to flex.
Wes, I enjoy your enthusiasm and love for the hobby, keep it up dude.
Thank you for the warning!! I'm just listening at work and without that I wouldn't have noticed. Love your videos man!
40k fans don't want that rn. It'll get fucked up just like everything else Hollywood touches
I usually play your videos while playing SM2. It helps when my faith in the emperor waivers
I like this video as it explained some of the lore I needed to know about. Space marines IMO are what is making this lore so fun.
I was definitely scarred by the tiny glimpse they give you in a recording watched by the new team. It was so effectively awful in a few split seconds
So glad I stumbled across this video. The 40k world seems awesome.about to go down a 40k rabbit hole.
Great video! enjoying learning some of this lore as I’m currently playing space marine 2.
Glad you made it through the storm, Wes. The emperor protects. Great video as always.
I know this might be slightly off topic, but that pic of Guilliman smoking a cig with the Emperor’s Sword is hilarious. Which is kinda extra funny knowing his anatomy, that the cig with do nothing for him
Nah it’s a newport menthol it’ll get him right
Great video!!! My friends kept saying that they want the Necrons to be a DLC expansion. I said NOOOOO they NEEEED to be their own game perfect for SM3 im every single way. Im happy you agree with me since i know alot of 40k and teach it to all my friends who desperately want to get into it or simply want to learn more in a wording only i can summerize in appropriate for how they individualy digest information friend by friend until we all are on the same page. They turn to me for their lore and i turn to you since your first video on youtube to get deeper into things in 40k that i didnt already know. Ive been into 40k for 20 years but its soooo massive of a franchise that even though i know alot, your channel teaches me things i did not know. Thanks for being one of my favorite youtubers.
[EDITED THAT LAST SENTENCE IN THERE]
Thank you for this video, I played the original Space Marine but was so lost with the lore. Playing the new game I've jumped in alot more to understand and videos like this are awesome.
I just got into 40k by wondering around on TH-cam and it’s so much that I don’t understand that bc this video was much needed help
Haha glad you got in a video for the new fans, I'm definitely looking forward to the explosion in Warhammer popularity I've watched all your videos along with a lot more and like to believe I know a good deal about Warhammer yet there's still things I learn that I didn't know almost every time I look into it really wish is wasn't such an expensive hobby glad I have a way to enjoy the world of Warhammer outside of the tabletop game!
I've been following these kind of stories since I hooked playing Warhammer 40k : Space Marine. 15 years later, I still feel fascinated towards this ever expanding stories.
Lictors > All imo. I forget the short story I heard. But when I read it and that Lictor drove that commander to madness, that was when I understood the power of FEAR, and why Lictors are SO EFFECTIVE
I know nothing about 40k. The lore is pretty crazy. Your videos are great to watch as a fan of sci-fi in general. I haven’t played this game but I’m glad I watched this vid. I didn’t want to have to watch a gameplay vid without knowing any of the context. Thx and keep up the good work!
I would love to see an Astra Militarum deep dive in terms of lore, factions, characters, wins, losses etc. I feel like they are the faction that are just sort of "there" and don't get the credit they deserve.
Thanks for the video Wes
I listend to your video as a podcast, so maybe you mentioned it and I didn’t realise.
I don’t you talked about what a compagny is. That a space marine chapter is composed of 1000 SM and that a compagny is made a 100 of them. So before reinforcements were needed because of the Chaos, to hold a full scale tyranid invasion the imperium send only 100 SM.
SM2 got me into warhammer and I thank you for this video, this helped me with lots of questions I've had when playing SM2
Warhammer lore is way deeper than I thought and amazing to explore.
Have a sub from me!
As a guy whos been deep in the lore since i got my first model at 8 years old im so hyped for my buddies who are just starting to scratch the surface of this nerdy lore behemoth. All new guys welcome, if you catch some flak on the way in, we love this franchise alot and are very defensive, but if you’re interested, weshammer is a great place to start
That LoC entrance was so good!
Regardless if started on tiktok i do find myself engaged in your content of the lore. Keep up good work, Wes
This was well put together.
My only complaint is that punk Lenadros being a chaplin!
This is a great video thank you for all your research and time you have put into this ❤
Great start to my week!!!
Such amazing game to introduce people and to entice player to know more about what and why things are happening
i like yout tone, speed of speech. good ways to intro 40k lore to my son
My man you don’t know how much of a saint you are for the lore vids. Just started my first 40k audio book (A thousand sons as they did nothing wrong and I will fight you on this) and it’s allready confusing as hell.
Oh that's awesome dude good for you! That one is a really good one but I agree with the confusing bit. Horus heresy can be kind of advanced reading and expects you to be already familiar with 40k. That being said, thousand sons is a good first book and it's a stand alone story
@@weshammer I actually got into 40k because of your TikTok’s a few years ago! One of my favorite worlds to learn an about now! Thousand sons have always felt right to me so starting off with there books. They did Magnus wrong dude was just trying to help 😂
Excellent vid for the newbies Wes 👏
Guilliman lighting a smoke off his sword is such a mood
I was talking with my friend one time (he’s a huge war hammer nerd) and I accidentally initiated a 3 hour unskippable cutscene where he explained “the basics” of the war hammer universe. This video feels like that.
Perfect video exactly what I was looking for
I was just exposed and now I'm hooked already ordering minis
Which faction?
i just feel bad for that helldrake getting laughed at by other daemon engines when he spawned back in the immaterium because an honored dreadnaught threw a statue at him 😆
think it may have been a nice touch to maybe go over the relationship between leandros and titus as well for the newbies
54:17 Ensorceled is yet another word I've learned from 40k
Keep it up! Your vibe is fantastic!
Space marine is my first introduction to warhammer 40k. All i need to know is that this shit is absolutely metal. And it hooled me instantly
Fantastic video for newcomers!
