Dick Cheney is possibly my most hated public official of all time. I cannot believe he is walking around free. There was a special on Amazon in the last two years that actually put him in a good light. I was appauled by the special and really appauled by the 5 comments (at that time) that praised the special. I gave it a 1 star and said what I thought. To my surprise they published it. I was really pissed and probably not really coherent but I called him out. Then I called the House Ethics Committee hotline and asked why they did nothing about Cheney's no bid contracts for Halliburtin, his lies about Iraq and more recently his oil wells (Genie oil) in the Golan Heights. No response of course.

I doubt that Cheney's objection to Detente was due to idealism, but rather rooted in the firm conviction that there's no easy money in the perception of peacetime. Defense spending becomes more efficient when taxpayers aren't as afraid of being attacked.

That would require either a personal economic stake in US military spending at the time, or some other reason to spend as much on the military as possible. Mind you, this business with Kissinger and Detente was long, long before Cheney's Halliburton days. So, let's assume you're right about Cheney's opposition to Detente: to what end does he seek this overblown military spending?

thank you for this discussion, and many thanks to Larry Wilkerson for sharing his knowledge and understanding. I intend to see the movie, Vice, and appreciate knowing more about him. I was quite aware of his powerful influence - control even - on U.S. presidents, but there is so much still be learned. And we must learn about him because he symbolises much that is still wrong and dangerous in the U.S. and military.

THIS is spectacular. In essence, it confirms and paints in the details of what -- in our hearts -- we already knew: the secret, Machiavellian power in American government, and as ruthless as sonuvabitch as we will ever see.

here’s the real questioning : how did a lineman from the least populated state ; shady academic background, get pulled into halibutton to begin with, make it to washington and poop boy to rumsfeld , and sprout inside the oval office like a spider in his web ? i mean 2 dwis in your own town ? defective heart ...

Someone with no real moral contemplations, scruples, may well seem very effective as administrator, as there is no conscience and they simply "do"... It does not mean that it is necessarily a good thing in toto.
A fly does not ponder whether it is "morally defensible" to land in your soup, to the fly it is simply food, and it simply _does._

Yep. Cheney's interrogation techniques came directly from the 1938 Gestopo Handbook on the subject. You can get the victim to admit he was Lee Harvey Oswald and that he shot Jesus Christ, if you wanted. Very useful, if you were Cheney and directing the music on 9/11/2001.

Cheney was the brilliant guy who's corporation bought another with tons of asbestos liability (I think it was Montana) and then got into government to change the laws. All those poisoned towns and populations lost big time. Cheney rolled on to new disasters....

9/11 ,,,Never Forget,,,,,I won’t,,,,,,,,,I can’t , I was there , I grew up in LINDENHURST L.I. 5 minutes from where the F15s were built . I watched the cranes build the Twin Towers in ‘72 from a Brooklyn apt. , I sat on Madison Ave and 48th st. And witnessed the 1st Tower fall . I walked down to Ground Zero days later amongst the hundreds of burning candles and photos of victims, I cried .

When I saw in 2016 that one of the candidates in the Republican primaries was a pathological narcissist, I immediately thought of Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld. I also thought of various dictators, but Cheney and Rumsfeld gave me a better idea of what might happen when a pathological narcissist is chosen as the leader of the United States. Fortunately, the damage has not been as big this time as it was during the Bush presidency. We are only two years into this presidency, though, and Trump has recently taken actions that seem very likely to have a destabilizing effect on the Middle East.

It is no coincidence that Dick Cheney became the de-facto President from 2001 to 2009, during the important time of the Cycle's Cross, convergent temporal paradoxes and the prospect of that '2012 event' in 2009. No-one will ever know.

THIS type of stuff is your "sweet spot" in terms of where you add greatest value to the public discourse. Encore!

true, Cheney was not a neocon, because he does not believe that the goal of the foreign policy is to export values. accidentally, he agreed with neocons on some policies, but bot because he shared the same philosophical assumptions. he was an assertive nationalist who nevertheless confused realism with cynicism.

D.Cheney = diabolical evil. For those who've watched the movie ghost, just picture the evil man near the end of the movie being dragged down to hell by imps and ghouls, that's Mr Cheney. ......and thats a man who got a replacement heart! .. holy hell.
