    Nithya Pooja Kona
While most of the Lanka Malleswara Wildlife Sanctuary is out of bounds for tourists, a small part is open throughout the year-the trail Jeadjng to the shrine of Nithya Pooja Kona, about 15km west of Sidhout Fort. A motorable dirt track goes deep into the forests up to the panchalingeswara Temple. From there, a 2.5 km long hike along the rocky bed of a partly dry stream takes you to Nithya pooja Kona.
    Overview
The temple is quite modest-just a series of caves enshrining idols and covered by a scaffolding to protect them from the elements. However, the views from here-of the green canopy, red cliffs and craggy ravines-are brilliant. There are plenty of langurs, crabs, fish (in the pools formed by the stream), butterflies, spiders and birds along the trail. Sightings of large mammals are rare though you might run into the occasional spotted dear. The path to the temple is curiously littered with an unusually large number of slippers and sandals, almost as if it were a ritual to sacrifice one's footwear to the diety.
