I worked at a bank in New Orleans during Katrina and had the job of taking people in to the flooded vault boxes to try to save what they could. I had one lady that opened her box and pulled out a baseball and started to cry. She had it in a case inside of a ziploc plastic bag that actually kept the water out. I asked her if it was important and she explained that it was a baseball signed by whole Yankees team in the 30’s including Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrigs signatures too. A plastic ziploc bag saved her $thousands. I told every customer to use ziploc bags for the safe deposit contents for the rest of my career.

I didn't even know there was a mall beneath them until a few days ago. As a Dutch guy with not that much travelkilometers (and thus not much experience with big buildings) I can simply just not grasp how big, vast, high and what not the WTC-towers were. @@weeardguy The complex these building were part of was a city within itself. The size was really incredible. Multiple subway lines serviced the buildings as well as PATH trains from New Jersey. If you combine employees and visitors, about 200,000 people passed through the WTC complex daily. I still cannot believe how more people were not lost that day...
@@mikesmith4644 Yeah I already said to someone else in a different video, who didn't really understand how people were said to go back up after the first tower was struck, that I expected these towers to be an ecosystem on their own and a sudden mass of people pouring out of them could very well have cripled the surrounding areas. Are you kidding me? You are being super insensitive! Its not just stuff, its memorabilia from the most awful day in America. That safety deposit box was Paul's safety deposit box not his family member who died on 911. Read the description it explains all this.
Never forget the 343 FDNY firefighters who were murder that morning helping innocent people to get out of the Twin Towers. They are all heroes each and every one of them. ( 343 🇺🇸 FDNY )
Having knowledge of the scriptures,I get much comfort from the scripture at John ch 5, Verses 28 and 29, it says there that in God's due time he will resurrect all those in the memorial tombs, The good and the bad, Good doesn't make promises without those promises being fulfilled, that prophecy will , without fail be fulfilled. You need to read that scripture to satisfy yourself the truth of the prophecy.
Jesus died on the cross to wipe away our sin from this world, even if we done bad, we will repent of our sins, but all that will happen on Christs 2nd coming, nobody knows when.
On principle I'm glad you didn't take their shitty settlement and gave that clause the finger. You lost so much but you kept your integrity, which is priceless.
So sorry that you lost not only your collection but a brave fireman cousin... Just want to you know that we will never forget that fateful day or any of the lives lost from the acts of terrorism~
He didn't lose a collection he gained some history. Those coins are worth thousands more than they were before due to what they are associated with(9/11) and the fact it was so hot down there they fused together.
thats what your goverment did. just as with maui today now. eisenhower tried to warn yall against the military industrial complex back in 61 but did anyone listen?
My sympathy for your loss. It's amazing to me that the boxes themselves weren't crushed and destroyed from the weight that came down on them, and unbelievable how the heat penetrated the boxes to the point of melting those coins. I hope they can be shared in a museum someday. The overwhelming amount of destruction continues to be revealed all these years later. Be well!
Thanks for sharing this..your thinking is spot on. Finally, I’m so sorry for your loss. As a life-long NYC resident, I will never be able to forget 1993 and 9/11, but future generations just might. Videos like this help ensure that never happens. Again, thank you.
I was in disbelief hearing a retired dfirefighter who lost his NYC firefighter son on 9/11 and now tours schools speaking about the events of that day, say he learned from the kids that it is not covered in history class. It had such a powerful and lasting effect on everyone in the country and so many people elsewhere.
Seawolf Gaming Not sure if everybody is ready to pay more money for these then they used to be worth. but havent checked his coins tho, he did seem to say what kind. usealy when they are damaged, they are worth less. Scrap metal (Silver) might be lower but 9/11 or original clean versions... choice is up to the collectors. Also, just some papers from a 9/11 tower might be cooler and cheaper ;)
This place they've set up for people to reclaim items is really unprofessional. Random music playing, and not a super private place to go through your belongings. This is clearly a very emotional experience for some people, and this room is not set up with that in mind.
They probably didnt have much to work with and just wanted a place for people to be able to claim property..i dnt think they had the resources to be too perticular at the time
@@Nurselady so because your taste is classical instrumental to listen to while opening up safe deposit boxes, you sound petty.....there are probably people working hence the music
Just needed to say the respect you provided while opening this was something to watch. I would have been upset too going through that and seeing it for the first time. The woman with you clearly doesn't understand. I wish she did. I wanted to see you take your time, not be rushed, sit as long as you needed. I guess that didn't happen. However, respect to you!
Man I never thought of this. That safety deposit box could have been passed down, or even their retirement plan. I didn’t realize that the banks wouldn’t pay out for the ACTUAL value of the contents :(
Thank you for sharing this with (and opening yourself up to the comments of) the world. I hope they do end up as museum pieces! And, my condolences for your losses, both tangible and immaterial.
Thank you for sharing this part of the history. I have no words to tell you how an outsider from Arkansas admires the bravery of the first responders. May God grant peace to all those affected by this crime.
I remember something of J. P. MOGAN being mentioned not so nicely in the news concerning 9/11. That’s a huge insult being offered $2,000.00 for your loss of items. I’m sure if it was them, they’d be screaming. I’m sorry of your loss of your cousin. He died a hero. Thank you for sharing this video.
Yup, you can tell he has absolutely Zero medical training. Then again, I cannot imagine the emotions that might be involved even that far after the fact.
Oh my. Seeing this tape gives me chills as what those innocent lives must have gone through. They must be fried to death even before they realize. So sad.
@@advharinishreni sorry ☹️. I think about it when they mention that they haven't found even a trace of some of the victims. I also think about Hiroshima.
This reminds me of a fellow I was connected to on Facebook; he was actually a fairly well-known surf-rock musician and artist who retired to a mansion in the hills outside of Los Angeles. When the wildfires hit 6-7 years ago, his house was leveled, but to add insult to that loss, all of his belongings (original artworks, tapes from his career as a musician, other things that he was keeping but for which he hadn't made space in his house) were stored on his lot in two tractor-trailer sized storage containers. The flames didn't penetrate the containers, but the sustained heat from days of wildfires basically cooked every item in the containers and reduced them to ash. He died a few months after that, and I always felt that, between the loss of his house and those things that represented his earthly accomplishments, he simply died of a broken heart. In a way, what you retrieved may have more "value" in its state NOW than before this tragedy occurred. It tells us so much and in a way, it's a "survivor" of 9-11. Certainly its "value" now transcends any dollar amount, and could hardly be compared to any numismatic "worth" it had before 9-11. Anyway... it's not "just stuff" and thank you for sharing this.
Paul, thank you for sharing this document with us. As an other collector (gold and silver coins, mostly ancient, sculptures and space-flown artifacts from the Apollo program to the ISS), I wonder what you have done with the damaged coins and if you have started a new collection since 2001. I hope you did.
And yet we have assholes currently in the White House & Capitol, who trivialize the day, whose ethnic group did it, who have loosened up policies, or altered or changed them for "tolerance" & "inclusion" BS wind up demeaning it. And the POS in Congress- "some people did something that day". No, YOUR FELLOW BRETHREN, with their sick ideology & religion ( who STILL feel this way TODAY) & YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT OF THEM is what makes me sick!!
In the Chicago History Museum, the are artifacts from the Chicago Fire. Stacks of coins melted together, melted China and silver tea and coffee sets twisted by the heat. It was something to imagine folks running through the melting streets, trying to get to the river and lake Hard to imagine those trapped in a building where there was nowhere to run.
My heart breaks for your family and everyone who lost someone that tragic day. It forever changed not only the landscape of NY but the landscape of our country. I was in NY exactly one month before 9/11 and regret that I didn’t spend more time. The first words out of my mouth when we saw (on live television) that the second tower had been hit and it was not an accident was “how could anyone hate that much?” At the time I ran an Urgent Care Center that served as an extension of one of the larger ERs in our area. The ensuing weeks of bioterrorism training and the development of plans if my facility became a “dirty” facility, working with police and local officials to attempt to have plans in place even though the likelihood was extremely remote in our little corner of the country was something I never considered I would have to do in my lifetime. I witnessed amazing acts of kindness and comfort, and unfortunately I also witnessed physicians and medical staff stealing medical supplies and pharmaceuticals for their personal use, I saw large corporations that despite direction of leading first responders and community leaders would not put the simplest of procedures in place. It was a time when you truly saw what people were made of. The police presence and the idiot who wanted to burn the Koran, putting my own husband in danger as they wanted him to be part of the barricade separating this attention seeking fool from the public, reminding me of my very early years when my own father was a police officer during the Vietnam riots. Only if you’ve had someone you love place themselves in harms way every day, serve their community, can you understand the immense pride and great loss felt when those people are lost in the line of duty. When a loved one serves their whole family serves. I had the opportunity to be at the last launch before the Challenger. It was a night launch and it was honestly my most patriotic moment up until that time, I was never so proud to be an American. I was working at the Orlando-International airport on the day we lost the Challenger, just a sophomore in college. It was the first time in my life that I spent the entire day glued to the television watching the news, sadly it was not to be the last. Please know that the rest of the country has never, nor will we ever, forget the events of that day or the ensuing weeks. I still can’t think of it and not have tears in my eyes. Your family has given a great deal to our country and we are forever in your debt. There is a generation that has no idea what it was like to live through those days, months, and years and they were spared the jolt to their reality. Because of this they can make innocuous remarks, fail to see the sanctity of the situation, and speak with what appears to be disrespect. They simply don’t know what they don’t know and that is okay, may they never learn what we have. Thank you for sharing your story. Sending peace to your family and all of those impacted by this horrific act.
Shockingly, it's not taught in some schools, per the experience of a retired firefighter who lost his firefighter son at the twin towers and now makes presentations at schools.
I'm sorry to hear about your cousin, Tommy. What a shame. He seems like he is a very dedicated person to helping others, especially with doing that so young. It's quite mind blowing, actually, that he was that young being a captain. That's impressive! He was an Earth angel. May Tommy Farino rest in Heavenly Peace. He's still here in spirit, standing by and watching, and we will be with our lost loved ones in paradise to spend our eternity with them, so don't stress. No one deserves to lose someone this way, and then bury an empty casket. That pisses me off even more about what happened. I just read about the contents of the box. Holy shit. The Challenger???! Wow. Yes, they belong in a museum. They were involved in so much history. I know it hurts to lose so much value like that instantly, but to make it a LITTLE better, just know that you have something very historical and meaningful .Symbolical even. I believe that they should be worth even more because of that and what they've been through. Have you tried getting them in a museum yet? The story behind them is stunning! Bless you and your family, btw.
The safety deposit boxes. Another element of 911 I didn't know or think about. While reading your intro I got goose bumps. I saw your hands shaking while you were removing the contents of the box and I can't imagine the emotions or how difficult this must have been for you. Thank you for sharing. You got totally screwed on the value and I know it's no consolation but you did a good thing with the coins. Hugs.
Fire was hot enough to burn paper and melt coins in a safe deposit box. This needs to be shown to all the ppl who say the fire wasn't hot enough to weaken the steel beams.
Fist sorry for your families loss. I can not imagine how heartbreaking it would be to open a box that you had placed your values memories and treasures in only to find them restored and distorted the way they were, especially since you had lost a family member in the tragedy. Would love to see the outline of the stamp you were talking about in the description I couldn't get the link to work. I hope that many of these items ended up in museums or memorials like you spoke of...considering there loss if value as collectable coins. I am glad that you did not take the money they offered you, that is ridiculous. You put valuable in a safe box because they insure you against loss. $2000? Maybe for one stamp but not for the loss of the entire contents! My heart goes out to your family again!
Different metals have different melting temperatures. Its safe to say that a safety deposit box, in order to keep its contents safe, is made out of very strong metal that has a high melting point
CassandraCandyface same here but for High School. Got out the restroom and my sister told me to turn news on in my room. “A plane just crashed into a building in New York” she told me. As soon as I got it on the second one hit and left me speechless. Met up with a couple of friends because one of their dads was giving us a ride. As soon as we hopped in car he said we better get ready for a huge war that was about to start.
What strikes me most is the damage to the box.. then realizing people were either in the same room or stuck nearby. Sad, very sad all of it. May we never forget.
it does but on the other hand it's not like they were responsible for what happened or didn't have some consequences even if the priceless human loss. as much as i understand that they have a ton of money idk if i woulve taken the money either because frankly it would feel tainted compared to what i hope survivors and families got
I worked for JP Morgan London on a trade floor for a few years. They don't pay well and they're mean and don't look after their staff. I did my X number of years and then got out. thank you for providing this video document as a matter of historical timeline - we have all witnessed the tragedy of 9/11/01 but many of us have not witnessed the unspoken tragedy revealed in depth by video documentaries such as yours - to witness and realize the damage done to the contents of your safety deposit box, knowing how well and secure the vault that it was in, was below street level, provides in depth visualization as to exactly how fierce the debris that fell upon it was and the extreme power of the inferno, that not even a bank safety deposit box vault could have survived when i had originally thought different
As a lifelong numismatist and person who witnessed 9/11 as it happened just a few months shy of my 21st birthday I can say that this is a pretty damn sad story and one of tens of thousands. God bless y'all and I pray your family gets everything it deserves.
I can run that whole day in my head like it happened this morning. I’m a chef and was getting ready to be open for Lunch. My partner was a Marine. I had Howard Stern on and I’m prepping all that I need to open for Lunch and I the back ground I hear Stern talking about some small plane hit the WTC. I was like damn he’s got a sick sense of humor. Then I realize Gary is coming in giving these updates about people jumping out of the top floors because it’s that or burn alive! Stern started to cry. I’m like shit this is real. My partner live upstairs and he comes down did you hear what’s going on in NY? Told him what I heard. There is a toy store next to us and we knew they had a TV in the officer. We went over and walked in 15 seconds before the second plane hit. I said small plane my ass this is an attack. I saw the hole in the side of the North tower and said that was made by a jet. Stood there like everyone else just dumbfounded. Called my wife I said we are going to close today I’ll see you at home. I asked if she wanted me to pick up the baby from day care she said now I’ll get him. It would have been closer for me to get him at that time but I understood why she needed to get him. Called my parents. No answer they live in NJ. My pop, brother and myself are all firefighters. Couldn’t reach my brother either. Then heard the pentagon just got hit????!!! WTF is going on??? We met at home and just sat in shock the rest of the night. Neither of us cooked! Fed our son and got him to bed. Heard from mom and dad. They were ok. They live right across the bridge from Philly. If they were attacking us they are going for big cities. Then United 93 went down. My brother was fire chief at the time and he’s said I just can’t imagine losing half of the house!! I said we need to do something. Asked my brother you think your going to send up a crew? He says yeah but what do they need. He asked if I thought I might come up! Talked to my wife she said I know you gotta go. If your not a first responder it’s hard to understand. It’s like being on team. She said Jim your a chef go cook for them!! Called my brother and dad back and told them let’s take the dept van up there and set up a kitchen and cook for the first responders and volunteers. We too 2 big grills 6 propane tanks, we took brats, dogs, burgers all the condiments tomato’s, onions etc. cases of chips and we got bud and rolls donated from a great local bakery. We ended up taken 2 police officers up and they packed their SUVS. We were there for 5 days and the blessings we received back which wasn’t at all what we expected or looking for was just that look from our brothers and sisters that this is just what they needed. Made life long friends and family. I watch these stories and yes we have stories but nothing like these folks went through.
@@nikkis7375 you are so right. If we forget the one that gave of themselves and the ones that never knew what was coming then it’s like 9/11 never happened. Pdubs 706 basically everyone directly involved in the collapse is dead now from cancer due to material from the buildings, but sure, wipe that shit that came straight from ground zero all over your flannel and touch your face later.

It's amazing to see how the heat incinerated the contents of these items that were stored inside a metal box that were inside a metal cabinet. This gives us a clear perspective of just how high the temperatures must have been at ground zero prior to and after the collapse of those buildings.
Thanks for sharing this video! I thought I have watched every video pretaing to 9/11 because it's been about 5 years since I found a video I hadn't seen. So sorry for your cousin who passed. He must have been a total badass like all the other firemen.
It's interesting that some coins in the box were melted and fused together but the box itself seems essentially unscathed. Is that because it's made of steel I wonder?
Engine blocks melted inside of cars on the street, concrete melted into boulders, coins melted inside of the cabinets, but the paper is just a little crispy. Building 7 miraculously fell into its own footprint after having been announced it had done so 20 mins too early by a BBC reporter. That was some magic jet fuel.

Never forget the 343 FDNY firefighters who were murder that morning helping innocent people to get out of the Twin Towers. They are all heroes each and every one of them. ( 343 🇺🇸 FDNY )
Having knowledge of the scriptures,I get much comfort from the scripture at John ch 5,
Verses 28 and 29, it says there that in God's due time he will resurrect all those in the memorial tombs, The good and the bad, Good doesn't make promises without those promises being fulfilled, that prophecy will , without fail be fulfilled. You need to read that scripture to satisfy yourself the truth of the prophecy.
Jesus died on the cross to wipe away our sin from this world, even if we done bad, we will repent of our sins, but all that will happen on Christs 2nd coming, nobody knows when.
The firefighters died on helping and doing there duty, im not sure about murdered, maybe another word than murdered.. just putting in my 2cents.

Ironically those coins are worth a lot more now that they have been through one of the worlds worst historical events and are still intact
You sure about that?
+Nico Vijlbrief (CodeAsm) yes because who wouldn't want a coin that survived 9/11
His coins were shit. A few silver dollars originally worth about $40 each. Some penny books. They are currently worth a shitload more.
how is that ironic?
This place they've set up for people to reclaim items is really unprofessional. Random music playing, and not a super private place to go through your belongings. This is clearly a very emotional experience for some people, and this room is not set up with that in mind.

In the Chicago History Museum, the are artifacts from the Chicago Fire. Stacks of coins melted together, melted China and silver tea and coffee sets twisted by the heat.

Hard to imagine those trapped in a building where there was nowhere to run.
My heart breaks for your family and everyone who lost someone that tragic day. It forever changed not only the landscape of NY but the landscape of our country. I was in NY exactly one month before 9/11 and regret that I didn’t spend more time. The first words out of my mouth when we saw (on live television) that the second tower had been hit and it was not an accident was “how could anyone hate that much?”
At the time I ran an Urgent Care Center that served as an extension of one of the larger ERs in our area.

Fire was hot enough to burn paper and melt coins in a safe deposit box. This needs to be shown to all the ppl who say the fire wasn't hot enough to weaken the steel beams.
I think the whole box with contents should be loaned to the 911 museum. It’s a testament of just how hot it was in there.

That woman sure knows how to henpeck a man !
slammer Sam I thought the same
I know, watch your shirt, watch your glasses, put on a mask, blah blah blah!
slammer Sam yeah she was annoying. Why was she even there! Let him look at the stuff in peace.
I can’t say she was hen pecking him. She’s trying to be helpful. Some people can be overly directive, but I don’t think that was her intention.
The guy does need help buddy, upside down mask, one glove on.
Why can't the rest of them STFU and let the man revisit his property and tell us the stories. Jesus
Seth Watt Jesus? What’s He got to do with it? Don’t forget allah and buddha🤷🏼♀️
@@missyb9438 can't tell if that's sarcasm or a pitch for me to care about more imaginary friends of yours.
@@sethvalentine2873 How about Moses then? Can we agree on Moses?
Exactly. Thank you.
MissyB 75 I prefer Mohammed and his 9 year old wife
Thanks for sharing this video! I thought I have watched every video pretaing to 9/11 because it's been about 5 years since I found a video I hadn't seen. So sorry for your cousin who passed. He must have been a total badass like all the other firemen.
How can that woman be so cold. The guy needs time. He is processing more than coins here. 😢
Thank you so much for sharing your story & this video.
i cant help but wonder if having a rare coin partially melted due to being at the WTC would make it less valuable or..move valuable...?
Also a hacker and HOPE con attendee. Wow, thanks for sharing!
This is showing how hot it really was on that horrible day. People tried to escape those buildings. Rest In Peace!
Women "it's just material"
Man " so are you"
Viking song is wrong. Shit at reading people clearly. She was just being a controlling bitch becauze she didnt want him to feel free to do as he wants for more than 2 seconds
I don't care about money. I would live poor to live free and I'm as selfless as a person comes. But the Lady Friend in this video seems to controlling as pshiel was bringing to our attention.

4:14 Ja Rule in the background. Man this reminds me of back in High School. This happened my Senor year. Thanks for sharing this although it's a tragedy for everyone. The type of heat these went through for the insides to be melted and burnt.. wow.
Paul knows but mask on upside down😷.and the lady is a back seat deposit box driver
I try to watch things about that day so I never forget it. There are so many aspects of that day that people couldnt dream of. God bless our fallen. 🇺🇸
This explains why so many people were willing to jump to their deaths to get away from the heat…may those victims Rest in Peace 🙏🏾
9/11 will always be in my Memory.when I travel I meet people from New York & over & over again I talk to them, telling them of my prayers & continuous concerns about their families. I also take the time to revisit the experiences by reading News Papers,UTube testimonies. I don’t want to forget them.
