I’m watching this on the way home from three 16hr shifts in a row. One more 16hr tomorrow then days off! Long shifts are doable and usually come with differential pay and other bonuses. Good shoes, compression socks, and caffeine.

I Automatically Had It In My Head That A 12 Hour Shift Is What I Want To Work, 5 Days A Week. Not Only Because The Money Would Be Good But I Wanted To Be So Engaged In My Career But You Made Some Solid Points That Made Me Settle With Four Days A Week 😂😂😂. Thank You ❤️

Interesting. I am an RN working in Singapore and over here we almost work 8hour shift. So we have 3 shifts in a day, AM, PM, and (ND) Night Duty. We also dont have fixed weekend off but we do have 2 days off in a week. And I kinda like this setup. Because normally I would feel so drained physically and mentally after a shift. If I had to do 12 hour shift (especially for AM shift where there are more changes to do for patients, I would give up very soon). But good to know how nurses roll over there. Thanks for the vid!

Slightly longer in summer but get one 18 day break instead.Is based around 5 shift system using 5 people.is 6am - 6pm and 6pm -6am. Two 12 hour days followed by 2 12 hour nights. Is a good system and you get that 10 day break every month.
Theoretically you work 3 days a week, but what happens is that, very often you will find yourself in a situation where they call you (for whatever reason it might be) to check in on a day off, and of course you can say no, but when they asked you for the third time in a week then you eventually end up saying "yes", other point is that 12h you'll NEVER ever get an hour break. My experience (i work in Europe ) is said we are very understaffed in Hospitals and so 12h shifts could be unhealthy, it wears you out. Better 3 shift system. Maybe in the USA is the situation different, I don't know, just saying from personal experience.

It really varies on where you work. In the hospital, there is usually a unit break room where you eat your lunch. I suppose you could leave the hospital to get lunch, but you are usually only given 30 minutes so you have very limited time to drive, get food, eat it, and get back to work. Again, it is really dependent on where you work.
I really want to become a nurse but I'm scared that when I have children and have my own house and a husband I'll miss them so much and not see them at all
Sarah Obrien what's hard is coming back to them after your shifts and having to deal with them and cleaning the house...unless your husband is willing to cook and clean. My mom who's a nurse is exhausted because she comes home to do more service type work. I understand why she's so bitter and tired now.

+Eymari Yinalen Hey again :) Well if I got my breaks (honestly some days you don't get them) there are anywhere from 10-15 minutes then you get a 30 minute lunch. The reason it is so hard to get a break as a nurse is because you don't have people who can come and relieve you, and sometimes you have a patient load that requires a lot of attention and taking a break is far from your mind. Hi, I have a question. Can you request to make shift or add another 12 hours shift(total of 48hour/week) so that my schedule will become 4 days on at 3 days off. 4 days off is too long for me 😀. My friends who are already working in texas they say that you can do that,but i still want to confirm it from other nurses as well. Btw I'm a NICU nurse and my wife is ICU in the Philippines, soon to be working their. Thank you for your input Mam. :)
I'm starting out my perquisites for an accelerated second degree BSN. The idea of being a nurse seems doable, my mother has been a nurse her whole life, but I am terrified of dealing with patients in pain and giving injections. I'm praying that I get over this in time, but for right now I'm waking up in the middle of the night sweating, worrying if I can really handle being a nurse. I get my CENA in February so I can get hospital experience. Do you have any advice for someone who is not sure if they can emotionally practice nursing?
Hello Melissa :) It is totally normal to feel like you won't be able to handle the situations that will come your way as a nurse. However, over time as you gain experience with the situations, you start to get better with handling those type of situations. It is good that you are getting your CNA certification because this will expose you to the nursing routines. Also, nursing school will really help expose you to patient pain and giving injections. Hang in there because you will find you can overcome these issues over time. If you love taking care of others and find it is your calling, don't let these feelings hold you back. Many nurses I know struggle with these feelings (at sometime during their nursing journey) but overcame them.

Seems to me that if you want to be a nurse you need to consider being a Nurse Practitioner. A lot of NPs have better hours than regular RNs.
