Now all we need is being able to Captain the ships like in Carrier Command 2, and maybe play ground units like AA trucks. If those things ever came to VTOL VR I could legit die without ANY regrets.
To answer one of the questions that came up in the video, the earliest aircraft carriers had straight decks instead of angled decks. The reason they switched to angled was because if an aircraft bolters on a straight deck, it immediately proceeds to smash into all the parked aircraft at middeck. The only way to prevent that is to have a barrier constantly in place to protect the other aircraft, but that's still a pilot safety risk as well as a major maintenance nightmare. And the angled deck additionally provides better safety for low wave offs, as the path the aircraft is taking is fully clear.
It is also to separate take off and landing - What makes a carrier effective is the speed it can release and return aircraft in high stress situations vs other potential carrier groups for example.
It also allows for the maximum runway length for a smaller carrier width, because a strait runway would have to be further left from the tower/island to provide adequate distance
I was able to be the airboss on the carrier for the majority of the public testing event yesterday and it was a ton of fun. I also got to be the LSO and that was also insanely fun. Hopefully CAW or some other groups can get the landing parameters for all the different aircraft and their respective TWR's at time of landing.
Got to play VTOL VR with Baha in the call last night. Me and like 20+ other people talked to him about radios and we all pretty much the simplest solution to radio communication is to add channels that players can tune into themselves. He was very skeptical of this solution so I doubt he’ll add it into the game. One of the things that liked about beta test was the reduced graphics, I had solid 60-75 frames for about 98% of the time I played. The ATC and LSO features were pretty cool but I’m unsure if he’ll add anymore to those other than the radar screen and the radio. Overall, I’m looking forward to what he plans in adding after this.
To me it just sounded like he was only against it because it would be a bitch to code, either way with the player base growing he's gonna have to cave and do something abt the radio system eventually lol.
14:28 We use angled decks on our supercarriers to prevent pilots from crashing into parked planes and planes taking off which was a common occurrence during World War II because of miscommunication
Now all i need is the option to exit your aircraft with a ladder while rearming and walk around with ur thumbsticks to go to the door and click it to enter
Angle deck is to facilitate both recovery and lunches at the same time because you can use cat 1 and 2 at the same time as landing because the landing zone misses those cats
im REALLY exited if baha is gonna add an enhanced radio, system, then when (new) atc tells me i can switch to another freq a actually can, AND, messing with frequencies is fun edit : btw the main reason the deck is angled is so that aircraft can take off and land at the same time
There’s a dude in Steam discussions who was shitting on people who wanted ATC/LSO mechanics because “you’d just be staring at a screen.” I feel vindicated.
It's not true airspeed, it's ground speed! VTOL will simulate the effects of altitude and how it affects his indicated airspeed. Therefore, what he sees in the cockpit will always be lower than what you have on your screen. Wind will affect it, therefore what you see on the screen is not true airspeed or indicated airspeed, it's ground speed. Also, the winds that you see on the screen are winds at the surface level and NOT at altitude.
If you watch the video at 3:59 he said he was going full vertical. If the Tower radar were referencing ground speed it would appear as near 0 vs the ~400kts in the vid.

True vr war thunder
@@opdower and better than the real VR war thunder👍
Even just like a simple movement mechanic to walk around would be cool
VATSIM players are gonna have a field day with this update!
I loved it as a vPilot user
Bro I just found it on my lobby and started to run Air boss

Also, in the event that the plane goes off the deck into the water, It will ideally not go over the plane/crew
It also allows for the maximum runway length for a smaller carrier width, because a strait runway would have to be further left from the tower/island to provide adequate distance
I'm a IVAO Tower controller currently at Atlanta, and one thing I wish I could do is control fighter jets... This is awesome.

hi illumi, its crimson 1 lol
@@jehffvredition2026 sup, cant wait to airboss again once the lag problem is fixed lol
A feature I didn't even realize I needed....
Man the only thing we need now is HOTAS integration and cheap VR Gloves. That would be my dream.
In fact, there is already HOTAS integration for VTOL VR, but only through mods, if you are interested, just search 🎉

@@illumi747 i mean he did code radar cross section into kerbal space program so dont know
@@theairacobra actually i think hes actively working on it, i just misunderstood his standing on comms
I hope they add more features that aren't all multiplayer focused. Not all of us have people to fly with!
Not to mention some just want to hang back and just be the ATC.

Damn, those consistent frame timings are chef's kiss.
wow and DCS is charging money for supercarrier?
wish they add more damage models instead two hits from missiles or a lot cannon hits to kill a plane.
I've been waiting for so long I'm so excited
This mean we might get a AWCAS as a control vehicle soon, hopefully.
I want to be an AWCAS or a tanker so badly and I have been talking about it since the heli update idk if it's going to happen but I'm staying hopeful
i wish we could play on the AWACS plane, that would be peak.
That looks like great fun (shared on my Discord Server!)
Thats sick cant wait for it to come into the game
It already has

the reason for the angled landing deck is so you can have takeoff and landings happing at the same time
OMG I NEEDED THIS SO BAD , fun stuff
ex navy aviation the main reason for the angled runway is to fit more catipults
i just played with the guy you tested this with i was lso and he was air boss in the 2 carrer map
This game never fails to impress me.

Ok DCS, now you need how to improve your LSO and ATC stuff.
I tried landing on a carrier while my friend guided me and I got it but VTOL’s physics messed it up
You need to let go and grab onto the camera again whilst ejecting to carry it with you.
There’s a dude in Steam discussions who was shitting on people who wanted ATC/LSO mechanics because “you’d just be staring at a screen.”

How can i test this as well?
Change version of the game via steam

Hahaha -the livery aswell xD
🤔
If i just ask for 1300 dollars so i can buy a gaming PC and a VR headseat to play VTOL VR would anyone give it?
