Cats and dogs were breeded into domestic life. Raccoons are trained. If you were to say natural evolution could do it you'd be wrong. Most raccoons are wild.
@@JoshucaVA Really only Dogs and horses are bred to that extent of domestication. Cats and Foxes are at about the same level- tame, but don't necessarily offer anything besides companionship and CAN live on their own. Edit: Because nobody reads replies, what I mean by this is that the only thing that comes as a RESULT of their domestication (cats and foxes) is being friendly towards humans. Yes, they hunt rodents, but that is something they do just by nature, NOT because of domestication.
Joshuca yeah it doesn’t have to be natural section we could see this have with artificial selection aswell right? And I think it could happen, raccoons are really cute and obviously can be trained (even if they’re still a little crazy)
The point here is that even our domesticated pets we have now didn't directly came to us .it's the question of adaptation .from what I see raccoons are really intelligent the way they use their hands .
To all the people saying "you don't have to look" that's like saying if a porn ad shows up in the middle of a movie "you don't have to look". Neither of the two were expected or wanted.
I once saw a video saying if you visit South Korea to avoid this place as boycott. It said that the raccoons were wild animals & super scared of people & had no place to hide. I watch this & see the polar opposite. These raccoons look like they love people & dogs alike.
Ikr, if they were terrified they would either be huddled into a corner shaking or attacking anyone they see. They look perfectly relaxed to me. And an animal wouldn't dare sleep when near a predator.
I am pure autism That’s what I figured. Odds are they weren’t socialized properly (only enough to not bite) when it started, or they had different raccoons at the time and cycled them out.
I grew up doing animal rescue, so I've always heard that same nonsense from the same ignorant types. Best pets I ever had were the squirrels I saved from cats or from the ground when they were babies. Even though they were all "wild animals" that can't be pets.
I think he might be a staff person. He handles them too confidently to be a regular customer. Like I wouldn't just grab a racoon like that. They would bite my hand off. If you take them by the scruff it won't hurt them. Its a show of dominance, like when they are young their mom would hold them like that and in a fight, they will go for the scruff to show dominance to each other. Maybe he raised them and owns the place? Maybe they see him as a father figure. Its the same for dogs and cats. But he seems to scruff them properly not sure though. I've never seen someone scruff a racoon in person to know the exact way but its encouraged to do so with young animals when they are being bad because their moms would do that. It does seem abusive but it isn't i dont think.
I'm interested in the long term - after several generations of selective breeding the raccoons are likely to become more amenable as actual pets, and their intelligence will make them interesting.
As much as i love racoons, i don't think even a domesticated one would make a good pet, they are far too opportunistic, and from what i have seen of tame ones, very hard to keep healthy in captivity, and people already struggle with keeping their dogs healthy and out of the trash 😂 I also don't know how domesticated they can get... Domestication is primarily removing the fear response in an animal, but racoons already have very little fear. I think they, at most, would be semi-domesticated kind of like cats, but not exactly. Edit: I originally wrote "half-domesticated" which was a wrong choice of words, i have now changed it to "semi-domesticated" as this is the correct term.
@@sveandful cats aren't half domesticated; they are fully domestic, man-made animals- like dairy cows, all forms of dog, sheep, etc. That's how domestication works. Selective breeding over many years, usually thousands but at least a few hundred. The most recent example of domestication is with the foxes in Russia. There is nothing natural about the kind of cat we keep as pets anymore. They should be wholey indoor animals as well, and only let out supervised on a leash or in a catio. A wild animal can be tamed (potentially), whereas a domestic animal that is away from people becomes feral. There's a big difference.
@@TDLBallistic i have a bachelor degree in animal science, i know how domestication works, and cats are not fully domesticated, which you can go look up yourself. That does not mean we should allow them to roam free though. We introduce them to ecosystems they do not belong in, and therefore have responsebility to make sure that they don't disturp said ecosystems.
These little things seem to be living their best life. They have food and a constant source of playmates! They are the center of attention and have no predators to speak of. Good life if you ask me.
Obiusly if you were a rakoon you'll prefer to be in a room instead of your natural abitat, where you can have the normal behavior and dont just eat, sleep and play with humans, the favourite activity of wild animals. Btw they are so fat.
I see everyone accepting this but I thini it's a real problem to see raccoons in a coffee. They are not pets, it's actually pretty sad and revolting to see how many people just accepting this.
Diego Caetano are you joking? These animals go through massive amounts of abuse everyday. They are there purely to make money nothing else, they aren’t rescues and they aren’t fostering them they are there purely for profit. When they aren’t out they are locked up in tight cages with no room to stretch are treated very poorly. Get fucked with your “ok boomer”. How old are you?
I've owned two raccoons in my life and I will tell you from experience that they're mischievous and they absolutely know that they have opposable thumbs and can use them to get into trouble lol.. But still, it's an experience in life that I will never forget or would want to change!. And a CatDog is the best way to explain their characteristics. LOL
I've been to this place and it's honestly really sad. When I was there the worker threw shoes at one of the raccoons and another racoon looked like it had gone insane. I would never go back.
You really think they'd be a lot pickier with who they hire. It's not too hard to imagine the whole thing as a gimmick where the entertainment of cafe-goers/tourists would take priority over the happiness & welfare of the animals. Was that the case?

I think raccoons gonna be totally domesticated pets after some generations like cats or dogs
Cats and dogs were breeded into domestic life. Raccoons are trained. If you were to say natural evolution could do it you'd be wrong. Most raccoons are wild.
But now that I think of it, there might be breeding of raccoons for this exact goal. Just like foxes who are just now domesticated to an extent.

Yeah people just like to boycott and look for imaginary problems. Racoons will fuck you up if their scared or don't like you.
Maybe they were just scared during opening and they got use to it.
Even though they were all "wild animals" that can't be pets.
why isnt anyone talking about the customers beating the raccoons
I think 0:55 is what they’re talking about
I think he might be a staff person.
@@zozozilla nah its not abusive. They just held the racoon by the scuff of the neck. A bit like when they are held by their mothers.

I'm interested in the long term - after several generations of selective breeding the raccoons are likely to become more amenable as actual pets, and their intelligence will make them interesting.
this is not educational
That's a neat perspective
As much as i love racoons, i don't think even a domesticated one would make a good pet, they are far too opportunistic, and from what i have seen of tame ones, very hard to keep healthy in captivity, and people already struggle with keeping their dogs healthy and out of the trash 😂
I also don't know how domesticated they can get...
