God... best interview I've watched on TH-cam. Maestro Bousfield, you actually are at least as good as people think you are. The best part of this interview is that it was conducted by an amazing trombonist in his own right. No questions like..."So Ian, is the slide hard to move around, and how do you know where the notes are?" I don't know who the best trombone player in the world is. I have a top 5 or so. Ian Bousfield is never lower than about 3 on that list, and could be #1 any day of the week, depending on what I've been listening to. Ricardo Molla Albero is not in my top 5 at this point, but I will not be surprised if he breaks in there at some point. Great interview by two great trombonists.

Mr Molla Albero, did any part of Mr. Bousfield's responses surprise you? Startle you? Make you wonder whether you agreed completely? I know he's one of the greatest - I just wondered whether you took issue with anything he said, e.g. the future of orchestras. What a gas it must be to study with this man.

I loved all his responses specially because he was honest at every time. That's very important I think. Of course it is difficult to agree with everything, but it was very interesting to me what he said about the future of orchestras. We need to change in a way so we can make classical music close to big audiences.

@@ricardomolla460 So many interviews elicit cliches and half (at best) truths. You asked excellent questions, and Mr Bousfield is very honest. I think this is an important interview because there is an uncertain future for orchestral (and even chamber) music. Some of it is sort of natural, with the evolution of western music at times getting a tad obscure at times. (Say anything you want about 12 tone music - the average person isn't sitting there thinking "oooh... it's in retrograde now"). I'm 67 and when I go to Symphony Hall in Boston, I expect one of the attendees to say "hey, kid..." There's a lot to talk about concerning serious music, and your interview raised excellent points. Plus, face it - the guy's a giant. Did you pick up any pointers?
