Naipaul was a poor political commentator. The greatest fiction writer of his age he was.
He is the best Caribbean writer ever. Many did not like his style but for me he is the best. He was honest, angry at the hypocrisy that he saw in the post independence Caribbean.
That’s the delusion many good writers seem to have, forgetting that politics is much stranger and complex than fiction.
