Spear is one of the most OP weapons right now. Is one of the most used and it does currently insane damage. But hey! If AGS thinks that Spear needs to be more OP and also ranger weapons like muskets and bows that get the new item Creed Boots, instead fixing medium armor, make underpowered weapons more viable and etc, what can we do right?
Allow me to explain to you why Venom is trash. The advantage of Venom is that it has trentch strike/crit. So Coup de Grace(CDG) will hit 23% harder or 34% harder when it crits. This also increases CDG's perk, Bleeding Sweep's bleed dmg which is 14% on armor and if you multiply that by 23% 34% respectively, you get 17.22% and 18.76% (18% avg) for 8sec. On top of this, the poison dmg of 20% for 5sec. So the total dot dmg comes to 18%x8 + 20%x5 = 244% weapon dmg over 8sec. The disadvantage is that it doesn't have Bleeding Sweep perk on the weapon and for a weapon that was meant to spam CDG, this is a loss of dmg. Also, Keenly Jagged is not on the weapon and for a weapon that was meant to rely on bleed dmg, this is also a loss of dmg. So a regular spear with two relevant perks, Bleeding Sweep and Keenly Jagged(assuming you've hit a critical dmg at least once), the total dot dmg comes to 28%x8 + 10%x6 = 284% weapon dmg over 8sec. Keen Jagg's bleed dmg refreshes every 7sec if you crit, Venom's poison refreshes only on CDG which has a 10sec CD. So Venom's only advantage over a regular spear with two good perks is that its CDG hits 23% or 34% harder. That's it. For this comparison, I didn't even consider a BiS CDG spear, which is Bleeding Sweep, Keen Jagged, Trenchant Strike which would make Venom look even worse. Aside from everything else, the real main problem is that CDG is not the majority of spear's dmg. Even if you spec for Vault Kick to reduce CDG's CD to spam it, your main dmg is still bleed dmg. For this reason, it is better off to use Venom as an offhand to benefit from the 20% poison dmg. There are two weapons that spams heavy attack, bow and GS. Bow's heavy is counted as light so we can cross that out, GS has Serenity which is significantly better than a mere 20% poison dmg. If you are going to main spear, then Butcher is far better. Although Butcher doesn't increase the duration of CDG's Bleeding Sweep dmg, it increases Keen Jagg, Skewer, Whirling Blade. For this reason, Venom is neither useful for main or offhand. I meant that this spear can be really good if you are going for "setup build" in PVP of course and yes normal dot spear would be for sure better, Venom will be good only because 2x Trenchants so CDG will hit hard as fuck light players from behind especially if you will be able to rend them before from perforate or javelin. I should specify more what I meant in this video that's my bad 😦and also I should say that regular spear build will still be better for most of the builds. and to the BOW thingy it should work in next season cuz they fixed heavy attack to count as heavy in ptr patchnotes

Bow heavy attack coded as light so if they dont change the coding,bow cant benefit from this artifact. Your entire combo relies on sweep where as u can do similiar damage with Serenity Heavy Attack,I dont know how you can call this spear "op" when you are using full of your resource on one combo. This spear is all about coup de damage,you basically sack all of your left click damage for only one coup damage which is unreliable most of the time. If they change coup from heavy attack this spear becomes useless since nobody in their right mind would try to heavy attack with spear. TLDR,its a meme spear which can be fun time to time,you can basically do way more damage with a classic Pen+Attu+Jag spear.
Yes I see your point and ofc it won't be as good as pen back attu jag spear overall as like war build for example cuz you have to make constant pressure on targets not only relying on 1 combo, but I think that it can be fun weapon for that "oneshot build" with jav/perforate rend than sns rush into bash combo into sweep from behind for like opr, Im Playing sns/ga with Execute now lately and its so fun to play and fun to watch landing that execute from back on stunned dude😅 So ye it all depends how it will look on ptr anyway, but I think it will be decent fun non meta build to play as you wrote. yep that is also an good option if you wanna go straight for dots but I think if you are looking like for (instant huge dmg) pen backstab in this spear will be deadly adding both trenchants dmg boost on coup

Bow doesn't have a heavy attack, charges bow shots are recognized as light attacks still in the game.
