Le drib skylite was so worth it..thanks for a great solid build bro! I've been wrecking it for almost a year now. It's upped my skills big time man. Now when I build my apex I won't aniahlate it:)
Rewatched again thanks man and super congrats on 50k next is 100k it’ll hit you before you know it! And can I say you really deserve so much more your a real hero in this community and a good role model for kids which is everything this hobby needs thanks Drew always!
So I was talkn fpv at work, Regional manager heard me and said his brother is into it and makes frames or something. Calls him up "what's your company again?"... mqc. Whaaat. Drib flies mqc.. Sweet. Small world
Would love to see a graphic on screen, representing the current draw of each motor. Knowing the relative power draw in comparison to each motor, and with that, a side by of each build, would give me an even clearer picture of what is happening onboard.
That is a great Question to answer. Which kind of Quad. I’ll check, got a top and a bottom mount and I take them everywhere, I’ll go and study their behind the sticks more closely. A nice way to spend a flying session enjoying the differences and challenging myself flying both.
Haha very nice. What an epic flight again in a tight space. I love it how much you seem to hate how the Remix flies and still are polite about it 😂. I love both my remix and my Alien style frames but it sure flies different.
Nice comparison. Started out almost 3 years ago, top mount. Switched to bottom mount about a year and a half ago. Love it. But I just built a Rooster about 8 weeks ago. Hated it at first, now I completely love it. Love that heavier feel now and the hangtime it gets. Freestyle is fun with bottom mount just can't get that good flow and hang as a top mount. Just ordered a 2nd new top mount frame to build. Also the bottom mount does have a quicker better turning ability, next time try a high speed tight 180 around a tree or pole, that's where you can feel it. Rooster definitely wont turn that right or fast. But it makes up for it everywhere else.
Awesome vid man! 👌 It's cool to see the comparison. I have a few different types of frames myself. I can totally tell a difference between top and bottom mount. Top just feels more... juicy, I guess. You can definitely tell where you're at home. Last run was SICK!!!
Wow the last few seconds drew that was clean as fuck and the remix had this accerleration effect look in the GoPro or I guess motion blur that looked really cool ! Great shit man keep it up dude !
Very good comparaison, but I want to put 2 things up: - The tendency to pitch up when doing sharp 180 degres turns with the bottom mount quad is very strange, because I found exactly the opposite! I used to race with lightweight true x bottom mount with 55 degres of tilt, quad flying almost vertically, and it was point and shoot, so precise! But with the top mount battery, heavier and with slightly less tilt due to lack of power due to weight, it was litteraly like grabbed by the nose and pulled up. I also was draining my dinogy 1500 80C to 13V in less that 1min20 with 2600kv dans 5046x3, so I had to de-tilt to avoid burning them every week or so^^ - Don’t forget that with the remix you fly a slightly larger quad with 5,5’’ props, it obvious that it feel differently that a 5’’ if you have the same rates on both quads, it should logical feel more stable due to larger props, more planted in the air, and less fast on roll and flip because larger and lower kV.
I've done top and bottom mount and can definitely feel a difference.. prefer top. Haven't tried mid mount yet but have that remix frame.. Will be trying it sometime soon though
Dear Drib, on my little printed guy I have top and bottom mount. I tried this recently to see the difference on the same frame. This was very interesting to watch and compare against my own findings. One thing I did note, that is not always said, is not just mount method, but how off center the battery is. I find for acro and hard maneuvers, this to be more noticeable. It may not show up as much on Mini Quads because your power to weight ratio is 10:1 where as my 3 inch micro is about 5:1. The littler motors, having less power show the difference more noticeably. Problematically the high power of mini quads may in fact make it harder to notice. More so noticeable at the end of the battery where the torque delivery is reduced. This would be maybe more to for you guys with respect to the camera balancing an off center battery. Food for thought!
I'm with you on having props in frame, but there's something that I really like about how the Remix flies (or at least how the footage looks when you and Tommy are flying it). It's very shoulders-forward, if that means anything, which it doesn't, but maybe you get me anyway.
Belly busters for life! I used to only fly top mounts for freestyle, but I find that the COG is more neutral with the battery below and the goPro on top, and like Drew said, they tend to be much smaller bodies, so they're lighter and float a lot better. I just can't bonk structures or do skid landings.
Great content! I've watched you for almost a year probably and you have really progressed, you've always been a great pilot but I see you pushing harder and getting closer to tree gaps and dives, etc. keep them coming bud👍
Awesome. Just had this same talk with one of my pilots. Some people swear by bottom mount. Where I also prefer top mount. Not that I can flow like you. But I hate hitting battery trying to squeeze through with a bottom mount.
nice vid! mid doesn't hold its altitude as well which is why you had trouble with the gaps.... but it is much smoother transitioning out of flips and rolls which is more noticeable with higher rates (or faster movements like a slalom)
Bruno Eye because the weight is neutral so it’s happy to rotate around the heaviest mass (the battery). I find I naturally set my mid mounts up sharper than top mounts.
I too have been trying out new setups including a bottom mount. Not sure if it is because I fly it most but I still prefer my fusion w/your motors . I can say that the qav210xs bottom mount allows some tricks with greater easy and the fusion top mount others
Great Vid Le Dribby! Honestly, I've never had a chance to fly anything but top mount so I can't, in good faith, give a fair comparison myself. With that said, I'll continue with my OG QAV210 for now. She's a Beast👍
I'm getting back into FPV. I'm going freestyle this time, and was wondering what the flight characteristics were between different mounts! Thank you for this!
My first 5 inch was a bottom mount (Darkmax 220) and I hated it because I would wreck a battery constantly. I rebuilt it on a spartan frame top mount and loved it. Since I destroyed that frame I built it on a Remix frame still haven’t flown it yet due to a ton of technical issues but plan to fly it in the top mount configuration.
I pose a hypothesis for you to test: Within the ~475-650g range, the hangtime is not a factor of your AUW. It's a factor of your batteries ability to dish out the power. The lighter one will reach a higher top speed while the heavier one may just have a tad more meaningful momentum. If the same battery is used on both, the lighter quad usually gets more hangtime. It's more difficult for the battery to perform well on the heavy quad and I've found that all of the time (not some of the time), the heavier quad will actually have less hang time unless the battery is notably higher performing. It's easier to catch more time on a lower weight quad. Support for this hypothesis being that nobody straps a rock to their 500g AUW quad in order to get more hangtime...
I used the same battery on both. And I didn't say more hang time, I said it travels further for a given toss. Just my experience that my heavier top mount will toss further than my lighter bottom mount. A better way to verbalize it would be the lighter quad accelerates at a higher rate, meaning that it will both gain and loose velocity at a higher rate than the heaver one. So it is faster to get up there and will likely have a longer vertical "hang time" (because it actually has greater final vertical velocity) but also slows down laterally against the force of wind resistance at a faster rate than the heavier one because of its reduced momentum (p=mv)
Le Drib higher speed in is higher momentum. The battery is unable to perform as optimally on the heavier quad in order to match momentum even with it's weight advantage. Also, the 'drag' coefficient of the quads will be similar and even a ~100g variation may not be enough of an increase to significantly overcome the drag. Literal strap a 75g weight to a light quad and see how it performs all else the same. See if you get more hangtime.
But either way, doesn't really matter. I was just sharing my experience as I've flown. And no an individuals experience based on "feel" doesn't count as repeatable data, but I believe in flying what feels good, not what the numbers says.
Bra you live in bando land! Awsome! But honestly that fusion is bomb. Great for holding a smooth line, especially in some wind. I would say dark matter skitzo is a flip machine, and the remix is definitely the most balanced! Epic flying as usual!
Yep top mount for me all day...Have flown bottom and top...much prefer top mount for all the same reasons..Still interested in trying a mid mount quad tough.
@Le Drib Hey there bro, look up the "Pendulum rocket fallacy". I didn't know about it either. Apparently there is no possible pendulum effect on a quadcopter (or rocket). The only effect you are looking at is differences in angular momentum (which is still important).
To be able to feel the pendulum effect of the bottom mounted frame you have to make harder turns. I know I wouldn't look good/flowy or cinematic but that doesn't matter on a comparison video. Maybe you can explore this in the future. The pendulum effect is real, and difference feels like driving a rally car. You fly corners like drifting, on the top mount it is more locked in, like a race car. I prefer drifting on race tracks :)
Nice flying! I don't know if you covered it yet in any video but would you mind showing some editing techniques and rendering settings? Your footage always look amazing!
want a solution for your props in view problem on the remix? throw a foxeer legend or runcam 2 on there. you might get it in your FPV feed but the video should be 👌.
I would prefer a top mount but what I have at the moment is bottom mount. And I don’t mind it a bit. But when I get all my components and do a build to my liking will be an X 250 frame with a top mount.
I'd describe the remix as a more balanced quad . You can't rely on battery g force too carry or throw the quad . You have to pilot it more. Not that it's a bad frame , just a different experience. Thanks Drew.
great vid as usual, i was surpriced how stable the skitzo low mount was for the hd footage, very good, would love to see you compare the different flight controllers, Betaflight vs Kiss vs Flight One cos i know you got that kiss setup some where in your collection :)
Wondering if the mid mount Remix has the lowest CG. The only things above the prop line or CL is the very top of the GoPro and lipo. Even the bottom mount Dark Matter looks to have some frame plus the entire GoPro above the CL.
i have been patiently waiting this vid since you mentioned it a while ago. :) I have been flying ummagawds remix frame and once i got it tuned in freestyle has been a blast. I'm just not used to going from 45 degree tilt to 30 degree.
I've been looking for a comparison like this for sometime. My two flying quads are a Spartan and a GepRC Leopard. The Spartan is a top mount battery I like the way it feels and flys better than the Leopard which is a bottom mount. No where near the skill level you are, but I'm advancing my skill a little bit each time. Thanks!
@Le Drib hey wanted to say you helped re inspire me to pick up the sticks again and the progress Ive made watching your videos has been amazing-thank you. I really enjoy your content! How are you getting such good reception with your patch antenna facing away from where youre flying?i have the attitude v6 googles with lumineer double axII 2 long range rhcp and lumenier axII duo patch antenna but dont get very good reception on my flywhoo explorer 4 LR maybe 700 ft or so before loss is more than I can handle. do I just need to bite the bullet and get the rapid fire? Ive been working up to 5" and that was the next planned purchase but would happily follow any advice you're willing to give....
nice comparison...re-mix looks cool, I've got top and bottom mounts. Hey Drew, how about a feature on 3D printing. I just got a MakerBot Replicator + It's a nice tool for FPV
Le drib skylite was so worth it..thanks for a great solid build bro! I've been wrecking it for almost a year now. It's upped my skills big time man. Now when I build my apex I won't aniahlate it:)
You're genius, not only because of flying skill, but because of video editing and montage. Music and footage combination is just perfect.
Rewatched again thanks man and super congrats on 50k next is 100k it’ll hit you before you know it! And can I say you really deserve so much more your a real hero in this community and a good role model for kids which is everything this hobby needs thanks Drew always!

Jump on that! Maybe get him to send you some frames! You’re a lucky dude!
6:17 that wire actually startled me
It’s nice when we can hear the drone sounds. Instead of just music. It helps me to try and mimic ur tricks
You have some sick spots, i'm slightly jealous :)
I can't say enough how much I like the vids that have information that helps me fly better. Great post!
You've grown and improved soooo much. One of my favorites now for sure.
That was some bad ass flying!!!
Dav right dude !
IKR
Would love to see a graphic on screen, representing the current draw of each motor. Knowing the relative power draw in comparison to each motor, and with that, a side by of each build, would give me an even clearer picture of what is happening onboard.
I so wanted to see a juicy flick up through the dive gap! Nice flying!
Man this is just so flawless. I enjoy you flying and video style
Thanks for the continued professional and often times informative videos, we have all come to love.
your flying has gotten so much better man, rip on ripper!
Feels so natural commentating. Nice work!
That is a great Question to answer. Which kind of Quad. I’ll check, got a top and a bottom mount and I take them everywhere, I’ll go and study their behind the sticks more closely. A nice way to spend a flying session enjoying the differences and challenging myself flying both.
That was fun to watch and learn about the different characteristics. Plus you tore that spot up. Awesomeness! 👌🙌💙
That last run was impresive
This guy.. put 4 motors on a brick and he still will fly it smooth
Yeah LeDrib could make anything look great.
LeDrib - hold my beer, *put four bricks on a motor and rips*
Nice one man! Glad you mentioned the position of the camera in bottom-mount setups, I think that's often overlooked.
Haha very nice. What an epic flight again in a tight space. I love it how much you seem to hate how the Remix flies and still are polite about it 😂. I love both my remix and my Alien style frames but it sure flies different.

I enjoyed seeing this warm up process makes me feel like I'm on the right track
Awesome vid man! 👌

Like dancing in the air. Love your style!
Le Drib! Not sure if you'll see this, but I LOVE my remix with your le drib hypetrains and 5544 cyclones. My go to build for sure!
That was some seriously badass flying..... great video. Thanks for posting.
You are wizard Drew! Amazing flying.
What’s up Drew? Love watching your content.. keep up the great work! Hoping to fly with you one day.

It's crazy how good you are
Sick video D. Cheers!!! Top mount all the way!!
Interesting comparison. Just goes to prove that, like love, we like what we like. Some great flying and some crazy gaps.
this video made me twitch like 20 times. crazy flying
you are an amazingly talented pilot
Awesome. Just had this same talk with one of my pilots. Some people swear by bottom mount. Where I also prefer top mount. Not that I can flow like you. But I hate hitting battery trying to squeeze through with a bottom mount.

Rich // Hyperlow Frames why doesn't it hold altitude as well? Didn't know this.
Bruno Eye because the weight is neutral so it’s happy to rotate around the heaviest mass (the battery). I find I naturally set my mid mounts up sharper than top mounts.
Coppertop FPV how is this related to altitude? I get that aspect for the rates and responsiveness, but not altitude.
Bruno Eye typo. He meant attitude. Ie its natural willingness to stick to one position.
Coppertop FPV ah. Makes sense now, that's just because of lower inertia.
solid video, i fly top mount only but i have always been curious about bottom mount.
I too have been trying out new setups including a bottom mount. Not sure if it is because I fly it most but I still prefer my fusion w/your motors . I can say that the qav210xs bottom mount allows some tricks with greater easy and the fusion top mount others
Never knew about Mid Mount at all thanks for the video.
Excellent Rhip Comparison!😎
i expect a flight edit from here. not gonna lie. great little spot!
DAMN you fly like a pro!! Awesome and Wicked moves you did there dude...
Thank you for this!
nice one, you should also try a slammed version where the props are in line with the top plate. Thats the only conf I fly these days for freestyle.
great vid as usual drew
My first 5 inch was a bottom mount (Darkmax 220) and I hated it because I would wreck a battery constantly. I rebuilt it on a spartan frame top mount and loved it. I never have flew top mount!!! I want too!!!! GREAT CHANNEL!!
👍😀👍
Mid mount all day. I like props in the video. It's cool watching them speed up and slow down with the tricks. I think it Kinda adds to it.
Great video Drew. Thanks for putting this together.
Awesome video Drew. Ultimately, I just think it comes down to comfort and feel. Fly what feels good. 😆
I pose a hypothesis for you to test: Within the ~475-650g range, the hangtime is not a factor of your AUW. It's a factor of your batteries ability to dish out the power. launch a tennis ball and baseball at same speed. Baseball will go further. Tested.
Le Drib higher speed in is higher momentum. The battery is unable to perform as optimally on the heavier quad in order to match momentum even with it's weight advantage. Crazy how smooth the movements are, even for quick jogs through narrow gaps. Like you've got linear interpolation running on your fingertips
Bra you live in bando land! Awsome! But honestly that fusion is bomb. Great for holding a smooth line, especially in some wind. I would say dark matter skitzo is a flip machine, and the remix is definitely the most balanced! Epic flying as usual!
I flew bottom mounts forever. Just recently started really flying top mounts. They seem easier too tune/fly. I think I'm sold on the top mount.
Make a detailed overview of the camera. Rotor Riot Swift 2 FPV Cam.
Yep top mount for me all day...Have flown bottom and top...much prefer top mount for all the same reasons..Still interested in trying a mid mount quad tough.
@Le Drib
Hey there bro, look up the "Pendulum rocket fallacy". I didn't know about it either. Apparently there is no possible pendulum effect on a quadcopter (or rocket). The only effect you are looking at is differences in angular momentum (which is still important).
really cool color on your hair! I've always wanted to try but kinda a bit frightened since I've have thin hair
Sick flying man I made the switch back to top mount awhile ago
7:05 i thought you were going for a massive dive here haha
such a beast Drib!
Can you make a toturial, how to fly and avoid propwash.
Kind of how you fly, to work around the propwash.
To be able to feel the pendulum effect of the bottom mounted frame you have to make harder turns. I know I wouldn't look good/flowy or cinematic but that doesn't matter on a comparison video. Maybe you can explore this in the future.

Nice flying! I don't know if you covered it yet in any video but would you mind showing some editing techniques and rendering settings? Your footage always look amazing!
I've got the curly mustache.. and crazy color in my hair.. still can't freestyle.
DJ Oetken glasses. It is glasses m8
Thank heavens! I knew I was missing something.. I was afraid that I was going to have to start wearing briefs..
Haha you made my day....i feel the same 🤣👍
but you have the both of the items that give power to steele and drib. wth. im not gonna dye my hair if it doesnt actually work
You dummy, you forgot the eyeliner. THAT's the secret!!
want a solution for your props in view problem on the remix? throw a foxeer legend or runcam 2 on there. you might get it in your FPV feed but the video should be 👌.
This needed to be a blind test!
wow fun rides in all of them. Great great down !
I would prefer a top mount but what I have at the moment is bottom mount. And I don’t mind it a bit. But when I get all my components and do a build to my liking will be an X 250 frame with a top mount.
Top mount FTW!
Sick flying Bro 💖👊
How do you like the chameleon? And what kind of uptilt do you generally run on your fpv cameras? Awesome flying.
I'd describe the remix as a more balanced quad . You can't rely on battery g force too carry or throw the quad . You have to pilot it more. Not that it's a bad frame , just a different experience. Thanks Drew.
Great video. Was wondering about this myself. Thank you.
Thanks Drew. I'm still trying to work on shooting smaller gaps. You do it like a wizard. Any suggestions on how i can practice?
Wow you make it look so easy
Awesome flow Drew
I was just talking to my buddy about this last night! 👍 👍
when you push the MQC it's pretty amazing!
great vid as usual, i was surpriced how stable the skitzo low mount was for the hd footage, very good, would love to see you compare the different flight controllers, Betaflight vs Kiss vs Flight One cos i know you got that kiss setup some where in your collection :)
This question bothers me now for a long tine^^ Thanks!
1:48 can you please link the gopro mount STL 😘
How did you do that so fast at 4:42 ? Please make a tutorial for it
Video was sped up
Wondering if the mid mount Remix has the lowest CG. The only things above the prop line or CL is the very top of the GoPro and lipo. Even the bottom mount Dark Matter looks to have some frame plus the entire GoPro above the CL.
Ty for video, I have (2) of your quads, definitely used to a Top mounted battery.
I am scared to try anything else... thanks alot! :P
i have been patiently waiting this vid since you mentioned it a while ago.
Thanks!
Good video, I would be interested to know how far off the COG of each frame is from the prop line?
