Fun fact: Since the summer of 2018, the net spending of Real Madrid on transfers is less than West Ham and just slightly higher than Fulham and Nottingham Forest. As for Chelsea & City? They spent more than 3X Madrid. That’s why Madrid are world class and the gold standard! As for the game? It’s best to rewatch the game with a cooler head. Madrid were not as bad and Dortmund were not as good as the commentary suggested. The game is 90 minutes, doesn’t matter if you create chances in the first 45 to 60 minutes and convert none of them and then proceed to fall flat in the last 40 to 30 minutes. Madrid created far more chances in the 2nd half and Kobel made some good saves. But Dortmund ran out of gas and the lack of good subs and a deep bench let them down in the end. I don’t understand why Adeyemi was subbed off. Two minutes after he was off and Rues came in, Madrid scored. He was their biggest offensive threat. He didn’t seem tired and was hardly sweating when he was subbed off.
I agree with you on Adeyemi, but also his finishing is so poor, I honestly didn't see him score in this game. He was the biggest threat to go through on goal, for sure, but I thought Reus was more likely to score, simply because he is a better finisher. But I guess its all theoretical now and Real seemed so in control in the second half that I don't think any sub (or lack thereof) by Dortmund would have made a difference. Definitely agree with you that Real wasn't as bad and Dortmund not as good as people make it out now; I feel like the difference between playing a good final (Dortmund did that, Inter did last year) and actually winning it is bigger than people admit.
You are spot on. Real Madrid had more possession, more shots on target. In fact most stats went in their favour. It’s very simple, Real took a couple their chances and Dortmund never, but to say Real played so poorly is unjust, yeah they were not at their best but they were not poor over the 90 mins
@@MaxF.… well said. I think the tables were unfortunately turning against Dortmund about 10-15 into the 2nd half. But honestly almost every single Dortmund player played their hearts out and left it all on the field. They run 4.5 Km more in the first half alone. I think if it were not for Courtoise, Dortmund could have been 2-0 up by half time. It was Courtoise’s height and staying his ground that pushed Adeyemi way too far to the left. Perhaps Adeyemi could have been more decisive and scored but Courtoise played his part in Adeyemi missing his chance.
I do not agree with Ancelotti being dropped from the conversation for the greatest managers of all time. Ancelotti is changing football still, in a time where everyone is pushing for the star manager (so far we have had more manager transfers than players this summer), where the game is being reduced to the tactical side and players are being formed in academies as robots to act the manager's vision, he's the only defender left of the player's creativity and freedom. And if not for him, the Guardiola robot way would have prevailed even more. Madrid are the last team at the top level now that lets players solve there problems on the pitch. In the team talk Ancelotti suggests a way of playing but the dressing room discusses it and tweaks it based on different opinions/experiences. If people were robots then Bielsa is probably the best manager of all time, but they're not, and Getting the best of your players trumps any other skill. Afterall innovation comes from a need, and he has always innovated when he needed to, Bellinham Kaka Pirlo ... I mean Klopp better than Ancelotti ? based on what exactly ?? The bias is real
Hey, your comment gave me hope that there are people that sees the truth about the game. Many of these pundits are biased, and their view of football are being modelled to something I cannot really explain because I don’t get it. How can someone discredit Carlo for what he’s done at Madrid and throughout his career. Mourinho said it nicely, he’s not a social media coach, he’s a proper coach. When Man City win, Pep is amazing. When Real Madrid win, wow Real Madrid is exceptional. Both coaches have different approach yet one is praise the other not so much. To your point, Pirlo would have been a wasted talent, now he’s considered the epitome of modern deep-lying playmaking because of Ancelotti. Ancelotti doesn’t micro manager and that take points away from him. These pundits are funny.
Very well said. While it’s enjoyable to see tactical football based on a modern manager’s concept of modern football. I can’t help but think that it restricts the players’ creativity and freedom. I seriously doubt players like Vini, Rodrygo, Guller, Brahim Diaz and obviously Jude would have developed and progressed like they have in this season alone under any other manager including Pep, Klopp, Luis Enrique, Arteta, or Bielsa. I mean look at Jude, Ancelotti put him up further at the top of the diamond, out of necessity mind you, and look at what happened in one season!! These other modern coaches would likely have subbed off Vini anytime he lost a dribble or lost possession, which happens rather frequently.
The bias seeping through these pundits at the fact Madrid won six - begrudgingly crediting them - is quite embarrassing. Mainly for the fact they're bitter an English team can't replicate such success.
Such cute and romantic view of modern football these guys have. It's a shame they can't enjoy a Real Madrid win, specially when the team has been built with economical sense and believing in the youth.
I cannot stand Real Madrid as a club, the constant pomp and ceremony, the disrespectful wearing of those ‘15’ shirts after the semi final. Maybe it’s a Spanish thing, but I find them to be too borderline comparing themselves to gods. Every time they score a goal their club hymn is played, and it sounds hyper religious it’s ridiculous. I don’t like it when football clubs become mega churches or temples to their own ego. Man City comes from humble origins, their fans have suffered so much heartache and misery that people still are happy for them fill up their cabinet regaularly these days. Real Madrid fans have never know truly rough times, they are spoilt brats. Much of their stadium is filled with tourists on match day.
Football journos love wanking about over tactics which is why managers like de Zerbi are so highly praised with having won nothing , all style over substance. If you don't complicate everything and plan meticulously down to the exact moment then you're not a great coach apparently, trophies be damned
I am sorry but people are using the first half to analyze the whole game In the second half, Madrid was dominant created more and let up only about 2 shots and only 1 on target Anceloti tactical changes at the second half nullified dortnund in transition
I loved it too and seeing the bald fraud go out was even better. They think he is some messiah. If he tried this stuff in Serie A back in the 90s they would have destroyed him
Yeah I feel the same, Real Madrid are like watching a hardened Roman Legion put down small bands. The Roman Empire of football with their players who are like the caesars, who are perceived as having devine powers and the protection of the gods. Every other side is just a plucky barbarian tribe hoping to score a mini victory here and here against this machine empire. Dortmund were like huns breaking the through the city gates to steal the loot…Real lying low in wait as if they were asleep and oblivious…& then they met them with killer force
"And in that time he's managed Juventus, Milan, Chelsea, PSG, Real Madrid twice, Bayern Munich, (briefest pause) Everton." Lol @ the most delicate of shade thrown by Daniel Storey.
Dortmund reminded me of Gareth Southgate’s England; lack of know how to grab the game and lay decisive devastating blows to the opposition. They could literally taken game away from Madrid in the first 45. Then do the backs to wall out all out manning the ramparts Lord of the Rings style defending second half. That was their only hope really.
That’s what they were trying and going for. They literally run 4.5 km more than Real in the first 45 minutes. Unfortunately they didn’t finish off their chances.
I think we often confuse an elite manager for an elite coach. Carlo comes from the era where managers had great control over a great many things beyond just the pitch and therefore he knows how to balance multiple power dynamics very well. As such, he gets his staff to rise to the biggest occasions without it being all about him. Id consider him closer to Sir Alex and Wenger with the way he's able to reinvent himself and adjust to different needs over time. All were suprisingly hands off in certain regards, which allowed trust to be bred in a successful way. If you've got top staff across the board, why not let them think for themselves?
Tom Williams becoming the Juventus of European Cup finals in the Inter Totally Quiz, he was close to him but eventually, like Real Madrid, Cox wore him down 🏆
“Spooked Real” 😂 All these years and you still don’t get RM. If Dortmund would’ve scored RM would’ve unleashed and goal difference would have been even greater than 0-2.
why do you insist on saying RM are a state backed club? Franco preferred FCB if you were not aware. Please get your facts straight and respect Bernabéu, the institution and its moral values. Apart from that it is a social club, with members who vote for presidency.
That was utter nonsense let’s you know they don’t watch the games. Carvajal is amazing at 1-1. Carlos peers are all retired. You can see they only care about philosophy and “tactical managers” the man is creating history in front of us. The man has won more CLs than anyone else through multiple generations of players and he isn’t in the GOAT debate which is laughable
