Thank you for serving our nation. I feel kind of like you finding a new stream of creativity late in life. I never used tools in my life until buying my first place. A little tool-buying and inspiration later, I build stuff and fix things in the house. And it's so gratifying. Congrats for transitioning to the next stage!
My childhood was very similar. You make friends quickly, but they are shallow bonds that you learn to leave behind.... Family is the only enduring bond, so you put a lot of loyalty into your family.
It's just a different way of life!

That is Awesome! I have been a police officer since 1989 when I got out of the Army. I have been woodworking since I was in school. Don't worry about being a dad at your age, I am 56 and have a 6 and 3 year old.... Keep up the great work!

I’m 52 and I do the job I dreamed of when I was young. I make a decent living. It all seems good. But it took me until I was 52 to know this really isn’t my dream job and being an engineer isn’t that great.

My grandfather, uncle and brother-in-law each retired in 20 years and within a month got other law enforcement jobs and retired again after another 20. Also had two cousins retire with full disability pensions from the military and fire department at 5 years and 18 years.

Hiya, that’s awesome news. I hope the pregnancy is going well. Being a dad is the best. I’m a police officer in New Zealand, and I’m ex Navy too. However I’m 60 years old plan on staying in for another 7 years. I do woodworking ( or more accurately sawdust making) I share my woodworking with my grandchildren and it’s an awesome time. All the best with your next chapter……remember we write the script for the rest of our lives. I like your energy and enthusiasm……and your work. We have a Māori (indigenous people of NZ) Kia kaha. Johnny congratulations on retirement. We have a ton in common. I too have 23 years LEO. I'm a helicopter pilot in Florida for a sheriff's office. I also used to live in Oklahoma. I felt the exact same way as you have felt. I am trying to make it to 25 and I'm done. I also have begun woodworking. I love the river table portion of the builds. I'd love to do a TH-cam thing but I have no idea how. If you ever around Panama City look me up and I'll show you the panhandle from the air. Love your videos man keep it up. Congratulations, Jonny! On everything, and thank you for your service in both fields. I also completely understand having larger age gaps between kids. Our eldest is almost 18, and our youngest is almost 3. I am so thankful I found your page recently. We live in Norman, and I'm currently buying the tools I need to convert our large shop into a woodworking shop. I've been designing since I was a small child and did a little building here and there. I've mainly just done home repairs and small craft projects for the last 20 years. I'm so nervous, but I would rather try and fail than never try at all.
How great! I used to work with Sgt. Bill McDonald w/OKC PD K-9 Division. The last work after training Belgium Shepherds was the riot at Spring Lake Amusement park off of Lincoln Park.

I already knew a bit about you since watching the Call Me Mabie doc, and of course watching a bunch of your videos over the last couple of years. I'm totally jealous that you have been able to retire. I'm in the exact same situation as you but I have 11.5 years before I can retire and do this full time.
