Days of Future Past is never picked in these discussions which is a crying shame. They pulled off the retcon, the cast has great chemistry, and it's obviously very well made. It ranks it in my top 5 cape

Not really. It's an extremely messy film. On paper it sounds like it was supposed to be a movie about Mystique given how active she is throughout the story much like how First Class was Magneto's film but she's not the main character for bizarre reason. Also doesn't help that Singer doesn't have much personality as a director.

I think despite a big cast, because it is so well cast, the actors really do a lot with the little moments they each have, like when Jean walks in at the start and Logan looks up and says " hi Jean" , it spoke volumes, he was in love with her

Captain America: First Avenger is my favourite MCU film ever, the character development was incredible.

    • @raxr5705
      @raxr5705 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oooh, Oooh Oooh!
I remember going to the cinema on a whim, and deciding *Captain America: the First Avenger* could be fun, even if on the surface the character *Captain America* had always seemed quite goofy to me, e.g. someone who had never read any of the comics. Having finished the movie, I was pleasantly surprised by it, but still felt it wasnt as strong as the first *Iron Man,* which was my second favorite superhero movie until that point (its still one of my favorites).
Having revisited it several times over the years, *The First Avenger* has become my favorite entry in the entire MCU, and the main reason is Chris Evans as *Steve Rodgers.*
I mean, the movie as a whole imo is executed really well, has a lot of heart, and contains strong performances from everyone involved, but none of it could work without Evans as the ultimate underdog, and imo one of the most sympathetic outsiders the genre has ever had, rivaling Tobey Maguires take on *Peter Parker,* as in my eyes Evans sells the living shit out of *Rodgers* as the most upstanding, yet down to earth humanitarians *Tony Stark* would have the luck of having as both his ally and friend.
I enjoy *The Winter Soldier* (which I initially liked more than the first entry of the *CA* trilogy) and *Civil War* as well, along with the rest of the movies *Cap* appears in, but yeah - nowadays none of them feel as magical to me as *The First Avenger.*

Infinity War and Endgame are my favourite Marvel movies because it felt like they had finally broken out of the formulaic orgin story tropes that previous Marvel films had and were starting to tell a new, different kind of story. That and incorporating so many characters from previous movies and actually making it work was a triumph in itself.

  • @pegacorn13

My favorites hands down: Into the Spiderverse, Logan and Deadpool. I liked and I was entertained by the majority of the rest. There's honestly not too many that I hate. They are what they are: fun! If we're branching out into TV shows and away from the MCU a bit, LEGION needs way more attention than it gets because that show was absolutely fantastic!

The first Sam Raimi Spiderman film for me; saw it in the cinema and thought it was incredible. Toby M was awesome as Parker, Defoe as Osbourne was spot on and the tone of it was (mostly) awesome throughout. Compared to the hokey garbage Marvel churn out every 5 minutes now I think it's superb.
Also love your vids; most channels like this are full of quick cuts and fancy effects and camera work. So to see someone just chilling in their front room, leaning on their bookcase and chatting bubbles is awesome and way more down to earth and relatable. Subbed for sure :)

Logan is my go to answer but in terms of MCU, I'd go Guardians vol2. I think its the movie that best strikes the balance of great comedy and genuine heartfelt emotion. It feels self contained with loveable characters all going through some sort of revelation. It has a nice soundtrack and in my opinion, it takes everything great about the first movie and makes it better. Even adding a good villain. Its the most enjoyable that an MCU movie will ever get for me.

those Emo Peter scenes got a ton of crap, but looking back, they’re some of the best parts of Spider-Man 3. What doesn’t work are any of the character dynamics from the previous 2 movies, like Peter and Harry or Peter and MJ. Like the bridge scene, or the basketball scene, or the cooking scene, all add nothing to the narrative and to the character growth, and just aren’t entertaining to watch. As opposed to the dancing scenes which are funny in context and at least interesting to watch

Avengers (2012). I did not really like it at first. But on rewatch you kinda realize how masterful dialogues are.
That entire act on that stupid invisible hover carrier while being influenced by the mind stone is so damn good.
How they managed to bring together major characters and they all have their space and play off of each other. No one feels like aquaman standing around and saying occasional "yeah".
From loki witty remarks, insight and threats, fury trying to grasp some control and facing reveal of his secrets, iron man being iron man with his wit and desire to impress people around him with his individuality, cap just trying to get things done and keep the team from falling apart. Showing black widow as being able to manipulate loki and revealing bit of her background, scene that showed her high value without just going for trope of a strong superhero woman. Reveal bit of banners own experience and idea on hulk, thors complicated relatioship with his brother and outsiders perspective on avenger...
You wont find its comparable in the newer stuff where they go for boring safe dialogues that could as well be written by a highschooler who just knows who are the characters and where they are suppose to end up. Shang chi or Eternals are great example of lacking that spark, that good writing of characters and their dialogue.

The reasons you give for preferring Iron Man to Batman are, for me, great reasons for preferring Batman. That said, RDJ is perfect as Iron Man. On the other hand, Lego Batman is the best since Adam West.

You must be aware of how this generation of movie fans have pretty much forgone everything else in favor of superhero movies. That's not a good thing. Scorcese is old enough to remember a time when Hollywood produced a variety of genres. Now, it's pretty much superhero movies and children's movies. There are still indies, but Hollywood no longer produces big epic dramas, or even classic comedies. They now hardly even produce sci-fi or action movies like Diehard, unless they are part of a proven franchise. Even an action drama like Top Gun would not be produced today as an original concept. Or Jurassic Park. Superhero movies are sucking the oxygen out of everything else, and that's problematic. I can see Scorcese's frustration. I want to see more great Hollywood films like The Godfather, Goodfellas, The Sting, Schindler's List, Taxi Driver, Blade Runner, etc. Those films were made by Hollywood and were successful in their day, but could never be successful now.

No Way Home is a terribly written movie, it literally undoes spiderman 2 and 3 entirely. It undoes Dr Ocks character arc.... he is sent back to either instantly die and save the city... or he doesn't save the city, DIES... and the entire city blows up. Most overrated spiderman film of all time. Flash writes a book about being Peters best friend, DOESNT get kicked out of MIT, like peters actual friends, this is literally the entire plot device of the film. Brain dead movie. Dr. Strange 2 was a much better film on every level. I have some breakdowns on my channel, i would be genuinely curious to see what you think.

Raimi's Spider-Man 1-2 are probably the ones that capture the "lightning of creation of comics" (to paraphrase Grant Morrison) the best out of all superhero films, in my opinion. Raimi has a incredible eye to embrace the completely insane and absurd with a real utmost sincerity and human warmth, never losing track that these grandiose characters still have the deep humanity Stan Lee and Steve Dikto imbued them with. It's silly but also sincere, light but also dark, and that's a rough tightrope to walk.
As far as the MCU goes I think it's between Guardians of The Galaxy films (which has that very same Raimi-esque quality of embracing the gonzo ridiculousness with human sincerity), Captain America - The Winter Soldier (which does a tremendous job of being a slick conspiracy thriller), Black Panther (with its gorgeous mythic saga of afrofuturism).
I'd like to say, however, that I do find the first Avengers and Infinity War both tremendous achievements, particularly the latter, as far as screenwriting goes. The fact Infinity War manages to juggle that ridiculous number of characters and manages to give each something to do without collapsing into iincoherent mush is nothing short of amazing to me as a screenwriter. Many films fall apart juggling a tenth of that number of characters and plotlines.

@@sujalsuthar99 oh it wasn't a critique, it was just my opinion. I can maybe explain it better: the basis of film-making as we understand it is, you have actors performing on screen and they spend all that time trying to act as if the camera isn't there and there's tension in that - like tension of unresolved harmony in music, like tension in your muscles when you lift a weight. Having the actor address the camera as if this is is some great metatextual whimsy is tantamount to choosing to release *all* the tension inherent in the art form - and my opinion is, a moment like that should be earned and add thematic resonance that would not have been possible otherwise instead of being used like a cheap joke, which to me, is impressive as someone dropping a weight instead of lifting it
