My mom passed away late August 2014. Two weeks later, Destiny came out. It helped me cope. Forever grateful for the years and friends made along the way.

My mom passed in October 2015 and I started shortly after with the Taken King. Haven't put the game down since.
Edit: Typo made my statement sound a little off. Corrected now.

I'm an outlier age-wise here - My daughter intro'd me to Destiny 6ish years ago and we played together and then she quit gaming for 4 years to start a career, get married, have a baby etc - you know adult stuff. And now, at (her) 33, and me (60) she's back in Destiny, and we're playing together regularly again every evening after my adorable granddaughter is asleep. When I was a young mother myself I thougt gaming was a waste of time, but I've met so many interesting people, and gaming together gives us things to laugh over in a world where laughter is increasingly rare.

I'm 67 and have over 5000 hours and now playing with my grandson (helping him level up). It's an awesome and fun game to play. It's been there for you and it'll be there waiting for you even when you take a break.

Destiny is the game that has always been there, despite the ups and downs, breaks, friends leaving, friends returning, whatever it is. Destiny has been there for me over the past 10 years, and I’ll always be grateful for that.

Your comment about playing Destiny with your son really hit me and i hadn't thought about that.
I started playing years before my son was born and he is now almost 6.
I let him play around on planets or the tower, riding a skimmer/sparrow, letting him run around and shoot things and he is getting pretty good with it. Ive been doing a lot of recordings of his firsts from blowing himself up, running around other people acting wild, and just all around trying things on his own. Its awesome to be able to share this with him.
He told me the other day, "daddy, im a good teammate. our teammates can count on me!". Yes you are, buddy. I love being able to play a game i enjoy with him and see him crack up when other people follow us around or emote silly emotes he hasnt seen yet. I love just being able to see his curiosity show in a different way that video games, especially a game like Destiny, can bring out of him.

My son is 7 and I just pre-ordered TFS yesterday for him. I have it on PC, he's on my PS5. It's something we share together often, and while I play more than him (because he's a 7 yo and his attention span is basically zero LOL) we always find time to play together. It really is special.

Quit drinking almost 8yrs ago. When attempting to rebuild my life I needed to find other things to do. It feels like you have so much time when you're not drunk most of the day & D2 helped me fill that. Obviously, my wife & kids were my main focus, but late at night, when I was alone & thinking about what a disaster I was, I needed something positive to occupy my mind. I dove into D2 head first. Joined a clan, started raiding, made friends, started our own clan. We still play every week, have met in real life & became real friends. My real life turned around too, stayed with my wife, had our 3rd kid & bought a house. Obviously many things went into turning my life around, but I'd be lying if I said D2 didn't contribute. Thanks your vids an articles over the years, looking forward to many more!

Over the last decade of destiny: I’ve gotten married, started a family of two amazing boys, finished two degrees, gotten very sick, taken a few breaks from the game, and made incredible friends over the life of this game. Destiny went from a coping strategy and addiction to a core part of my life it’s been a crazy journey and I’m still excited for what’s next. It’s crazy that you and other content creators and journalists have equally been in our lives as well and thank you for everything you do for the community and the love of the game.

I stopped playing during Season of the Worthy, restarted back in Shadowkeep and quit permanently when Season of the Wish started. The game has some of the best shooting mechanics the business and it's definitely one of a kind. I do love the game overall. And though I don't like what the game has become (an over monetized greedfest), I'd be a fool to think this game didn't have any positive influences in my life. I met some really great people while playing this game and have a lot of great memories. I won't be returning for The Final Shape, but I really hope it goes well for the sake of the devs (screw upper management)!

I still remember walking to Walmart with a pocket full of saved up birthday money to pick up my Xbox 360 copy D1 in 2014 as a teenager without a car. Aside from a handful of breaks, I’ve been playing consistently ever since. I hate Destiny, it’s my favorite game.

Found you many many moons ago and my initial thought was 'why the hell is Forbes writing articles on Destiny?!?!' Over the years you and Houndish are the only two creators I've stuck with because you seem to be the most grounded content creators of D2 content. Thanks so much for many many years of information, opinions and objective evaluations.

Same thought here, not sure how such a normie news source employed someone who not only wrote about videogames but so often one in particular (it'd be like the Wall Street Journal releasing articles on gunpla). But as you said, it seems to keep him more grounded than his more.... *high octane* peers which I've really appreciated.

I met some random guy on LFG to do last wish when forsaken came out, to this day we remain the best of friends. We talk every week, I traveled all the way from west coast to the east coast to hang out for a couple of weeks. I cannot express how much destiny means to me as I’ve met some of the greatest people I’ll ever meet in my life through that game. Destiny taught me the value of patience and that doing things with people is so much more fun than doing them alone. It also taught me that not everything in this world has to be a complete or perfect experience and that sometimes it's ok to just let go if you're not having a good time.

I still avidly take in lore content, but the game is not something I’m interested in playing anymore 💁🏾 I had a ton of fun in high school and college, but I simply don’t have the time to be playing the game at the level that I’d like anymore and it makes the game not fun for me

    Destiny:
    both 1, and 2
Are the most engaged I’ve been as a player since my humble beginnings.
Always a huge halo fan. But no other game has even scratched the surface of what Destiny has brought to my personal gaming experiences.
The friends, the laughter, the camaraderie, and dedication, the deep lore, and the time invested.
Whatever comes of the future. Destiny has had an unequaled impact on my life and interests.
And will continue to until the train stops and Bungie flips the servers off..
Happy to be a part of this community

Paul, you mentioned hoping one day to play Destiny with your son and wondered how old he needed to be to begin. I started playing Destiny two or three week after its release in September 2014. That Christmas, I surprised my son, who was 6 years old at the time, with a PS4. It wasn't a secret in the family that the second PS4's primary purpose was so that I could have a Guardian to play beside. 😂
Almost 10 years later, we are still playing. I'm pushing 50 now, and he is 16 years old. Yet, we both get so excited on a Destiny expansion eve, as if we were still wide-eyed children on the night before Christmas.
This expansion feels a little more special though. After over 10 years, he and I fly together into The Traveler's Pale Heart for one last battle in the Light and Dark saga.

I usually agree with most of what you say, but it’s your poise when it comes to fair criticism and controversies that I respect the most. You’re a great journalist! Aside from that, yea I’ve been here since D1 launch. My best friend died in that span, right around Caydes death. I love this game. Playing is cathartic to say the least, especially with Cayde coming back. Destiny just has that magic that you can’t really describe, something I’ve only felt with series like Star Wars and Naruto. It’s crazy how we barely notice the constants in life until they come full circle, but things like this that are just in your life are special. It makes life more fun, so idk regardless of how everything ends it’s been a fun journey and I wish everyone a good time!

I fell hard. I started with the game in 2014. I moved into collectibles, books, clothes, research, music, clans, and eventually created my first Hunter cosplay. There are little reminders in my life all over of Destiny. It coincides with a major career change and family life change. It weaved into every aspect, same way I feel about James Bond. I have had so many moments with Destiny players that can only be described as pure joy. I have true appreciation for your professional opinions and have read so many articles. I continue to follow many Destiny creators. Your style is unmatched, thank you Paul!

I got into Destiny about the same time Kings fall came out. I was bullied a lot, but the friends I had told me I should get Destiny. I never fell in love with a world fast. I think a core memory of mine is beating Kings fall with a group of Raiders that we’re all told we couldn’t do it because we weren’t good enough. I went on to beat that raid 75 times after that. I continued into Destiny 2 and around the same time as season of opulence, I found my clan. I was going through pretty intense surgery at the time and just being able to play with someone really helped me out. I’ve became so close with them that I even invited them to my college graduation. Destiny has been a life-changing experience for me I’ve met some of my closest friends through it. I think it’s been 10 years is absolutely crazy. Here’s hoping for another 10 more.

I have a beautiful story on how i got into destiny. A friend(brian) passed that played d1....and he would always flake on plans cause he was doing a "raid"
Years later a different friend was playing d2 (the corrupted) and I was blown away..
Now 10,000+ hrs later and leader of a clan and have made friends I've had for 6 +years now.....I always think of Brian when new content drops and just know he would love it❤❤
And we would be doing raids together😢😢😢❤❤❤❤❤😢😢😢😢😢❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
I love all of you so much. Love this game. It's a huge part of my life. I have never been mad at bungie (because of Brian). They can do no wrong to me. I'm just grateful to play a game like this when I want, how I want, and I have content creators and streamers who contribute to all the positive and negative ...
It's all good to me as long as it deals with destiny 😊

I was 11 or 12 when Destiny 1 came out, im now 22 and i still play.
Regardless of the ups and downs, Destiny was always there, making memories. Crazy how monumental 10 years of a video game can feel looking back

The thing that made me come back to Destiny (because I had reached RL burnout midway season of the witch) was the care put into not just into seasonal content, but Into the Light popped off (onslaught and pantheon were amazing additions) as well as properly told stories that kept the beat rolling without feeling overly campy.
Season of the Witch with its finale made me trust Bungie again. And all along for this ride has been a PT article or youtube video, engaging me the whole time. Thank you man, for all the work you have put in and being a steady voice in journalism for one of my favorite games. I hate it so much.

The space magic of Destiny, the art, the music, the tone, the lore. There are times when it all comes together and absolutely pops off and in those moments it is the coolest shit I've ever played/seen.

I never played D1, but one of my current closest friends is actually someone that I went to high school with, but was never really friends with back then. I learned that he played D2 a few years after I started playing, and since then he has been one of my best friends.

My kids grew up during this saga. I will ha e a daughter that's graduating this coming year. People making fun of others that are remembering lost guardians don't understand the impact this game has had. Many friends made, families grew, loved ones lost. 10years is forever as a youth, and the blink of an eye the older we get. Seems like yesterday my little man was playing my hunter and now he's a 15yr old blazing his own path on the football field. Much love to everyone our on this journey.

A good journalist should be impartial and report on the facts. I have appreciated that about you and your coverage since I found you at the close of Destiny and the beginning of D2. Its lead me to read your books and share them with my stepson. Cheers to you and your career, but moreover, to your genuine passion for something that so many of us are just as passionate about!
