Great to see the Johnny 5 project back in business again. Please help Samuel in making some videos about the progress. And those 3D printed tools are great. I even use 3D printed stops on my vise for mounting stock. Different colors for different parts we produce.
Great advice about interns. A local machine shop sponsored my robotics team in high school and I was able to intern there summers in college. Amazing experience for me and helped my engineering career.
It doesn't seem that long ago you were agonising over the purchase of your first grown-up's CNC machine, and now you've got a whole shop full of them! You've done well!
The evolution of your shop and business is both inspiring and interesting to observe. It does my heart good to see an American manufacturing shop thrive!
pretty wicked project, you got allot of folks with there hopes real high right now. hope yall manage to finish this as im sure itll be one of the best reproductions around.
Great update! Been away from machining for 6 years but now retired from president of software company and ready to get back in the shop! Your shop has grown exponentially since I last watched in 2014! Long way from your place in NY ;-)
John I have been following your channel since the beginning! Congratulations for all the achievements and thank you for sharing all the knowledge. You and the TH-cam community are an invaluable resource to learn and be motivated.
I guess a lot of people wondered what happened to the "Johnny 5" project and you fed us this summary. I assume it's just a pastime for you. For me, it would have been an opportunity to see a memory of my youth take shape in the hands of professionals. All right! I look forward to better developments.
Wait, its Wednesday already? Thanks for the shop update. Its been amazing watching you grow. I would love to see more about the DT2 once you get it working. Name suggestion...R2-DT2...
So, after watching the whole thing, looks like this is not about "building Johnny 5" after all, but, a show off of your shop, a commercial (hey, look what we can do here). And for taking more than 3 years, it shows how incompetent you guys are. Well done.
Love your videos you've helped me out a lot on fusion 360 tips and it's great when you go to other shops showing off the best of the best cncs in the world makes me jealous lol
Me seeing a stepper on a black extrusion and a hint of orange in the corner of the frame: mmm, is it… looks like… like Prusa Mini… Ha! It is! There’s an “adult” Prusa as well! Greetings from Prague, the home city of Prusa :)
Learned the tolerance stacking on one of my drone frames I cut and then wanted to make aluminum arm protectors for the ends. Little oversized on one part versus slightly undersized on another part, issue with tool deflection that was not figured out with 3D mockup phase.
I was down there over a year ago for one of your classes very cool shop great job love to come back and visit Jared was a great instructor. The company I work for has been talking to you or Jared about updating our Hass . Hope to get to work with you guys again
Taking Johnny 5 to schools is a great idea. My suggestion of having him in the lobby of a theater to show both of the "Short Circuit" movies is still too good to pass up if you can get a theater to do it. Think of the advertising.
My guess is the o-ring in the bubble gauge on the coolant tank on the Tormach on the other side of the wall swelled and broke the gauge spilling QC251C....
Interesting shop tour, it's fascinating to see your operation grow! Your storage and packing area look noticably old-school compared to your actual shopt though, have you thought about looking into automation for those spaces too to enable future growth without needing more space? Automated storage and retrieval systems can be a real asset here to scale up throughput and reduce errors.
Very nice John. Have you seen that video fireball tools did on shop lighting he really set it up with close to daylight, seems like you have shadows, but maybe just the camera. Thanks again for the content
Will there be any new update on Johnny 5 soon? I guess it became that kind of project where the motivation hit a pretty low motivation plateau because of different reasons... But it would be great to see a new episode on him :) Greetings!
When you bought your first sky hook, I commented that you could build your own for a fraction of the cost, but the development would cost you in time. I think you'd have broken even by now...
So, it appears you're only interested in inexpressive, low experience folks. I understand want to trian new blood that is interesting in moving their career forward, but what about older "truly experienced" folks.?
Dudes, we need Johnny 5 updates.
Big coolant spill at the end there.
Great to see the Johnny 5 project back in business again. Please help Samuel in making some videos about the progress.

Original Johnny 5 build time - 2 weeks
Replicating it - X years ='D
Keep it up guys! XD
Looking forward to the Johnny 5 coming together. Awesome.
Great advice about interns. A local machine shop sponsored my robotics team in high school and I was able to intern there summers in college. Amazing experience for me and helped my engineering career.
Yay - Johnny 5 is almost alive
Shop update vids are the best
I remember when your main area was 2/3 empty, now it looks like you're running out of space already!
srsly! crazy to think about how far that shop has come!
@@floodo1 Mofo started in an actual NYC apartment with a modded small Grizzly cnc machine I think. He's come a long way. Pretty impressive.
Any update on Johnny 5? Such a cool project.

I WANT MORE JOHNNY 5!!!
So good to see Johnny! Thanks. Let’s get that kid in front a camera for his assembly of him.
Awesome update, thanks! Shop is starting to look crowded!
Would love to see a video showing the different parts/products SMW makes…
pretty wicked project, you got allot of folks with there hopes real high right now. hope yall manage to finish this as im sure itll be one of the best reproductions around.
Johnny5 more input

Looking forward to more Johnny 5!
Seeing you grow like this over the years is inspiring. Keep it up!
Wait, its Wednesday already? Thanks for the shop update. Its been amazing watching you grow. I would love to see more about the DT2 once you get it working. Name suggestion...R2-DT2...
Thanks for the update! Awesome to see how the shop has filled out and progressed over the years.
It's amazing to think about how things looked the first time I was on the shop floor there compared to now. Love seeing your success and growth!
CSI/SMW: at 10:10 we saw evidence that the kids were IN the shop! Great shop!
10:15 Who left the coolant running 😁😁
These shop updates are great! I kinda want to start making some.
@nyc cnc is this johnny 5 show and building proces still going? I dont see any more update videos sinds this one. Thnk you

I'm just here for Johnny 5. Need input.
Where are you guys buying your stop-locs? I can't find anyone that has them in stock and I use them so often.
Great video John, good to see the shop growing nicely. Next step is a new spills station with wet vac...oops lol
Love your videos you've helped me out a lot on fusion 360 tips and it's great when you go to other shops showing off the best of the best cncs in the world makes me jealous lol
Awesome John! What difference since the days I used to watch your channel in New York!!
JOHNY 5 IS ALLLLIVE!
So cool!
Alcohol is a great hot-glue removal tool too......my RC STEM program for kids lives on hot glue😎
Finally!!!!
Me seeing a stepper on a black extrusion and a hint of orange in the corner of the frame: mmm, is it… looks like… like Prusa Mini… Ha! It is! There’s an “adult” Prusa as well!
Greetings from Prague, the home city of Prusa :)
Thank you being looking for this for a long time.
Awesome update, thanks!
Awesome job keep up the good work!!
And the Coolant spill at 10:15 😂
Learned the tolerance stacking on one of my drone frames I cut and then wanted to make aluminum arm protectors for the ends. Little oversized on one part versus slightly undersized on another part, issue with tool deflection that was not figured out with 3D mockup phase.

Johnny 5 is back!
Narrator: That was a lie...
Great update!
Taking Johnny 5 to schools is a great idea. My suggestion of having him in the lobby of a theater to show both of the "Short Circuit" movies is still too good to pass up if you can get a theater to do it. Think of the advertising.
Is this project still going?
10:10 Whoa, what's that white thing spilled on the floor? Coolant?
Edit: Or is it some kind of epoxy for floor leveling?
His lunch milk.
My guess is the o-ring in the bubble gauge on the coolant tank on the Tormach on the other side of the wall swelled and broke the gauge spilling QC251C....
Floor leveling? That way lies madness. Just ask Louis Rossmann.
Awesome John
We aren’t going to talk about the huge coolant spill in the background???

Shapeoko... spill the beans!
Great video 👍 This video settles a question I had at tech school about shaft size to bore size "fluke" matching so would not go together!
Please finish
definitely a “you got games on yo phone” kid
Awesome update!
Very nice John. Have you seen that video fireball tools did on shop lighting he really set it up with close to daylight, seems like you have shadows, but maybe just the camera. Thanks again for the content
Love seeing the updates and love to see you grow! But what happened to all the tormachs?
Will there be any new update on Johnny 5 soon? I guess it became that kind of project where the motivation hit a pretty low motivation plateau because of different reasons... But it would be great to see a new episode on him :)
Greetings!
I was wondering what new machine that you were unwrapping when I was pulling into work across the road.
I would love to buy some Shapeoko Pro plates....
How many amps do you have in your shop to run all the machines at once ?
Are the tracks custom? Or are they a type of conveyor chain?
What happened to this build
Time to grab the Freddy!
Hey John, you got a bit of a coolant leak there lol
з нетерпінням чекаю коли зберуть і запустять робота джоні 5
You need an overhead track system to move parts around. You've run out of floor space. 🙃🙃🙃
Wen done?=)
Amazing, take drll to it ?
Has the other guy who was involved moved on ? , sorry don`t remember his name.
About time
Great content, as always! John - Will there be any new "hands on training classes" in the near future?
I was wondering the same but it looks like the training room is now part of the shipping and packing.
No local FRC teams??
Oddly, correct. Only VEX
Love it
The plasma table gone?
Is this for the new Johnny five movie?
Serious question will he have a laser

Dude! 1 - missed this 2 - DO NOT CUT YOUR HAIR ANY SHORTER! You have a much more dapper look with that do.
#DREAMSHOP
machines don't work, apparently advertising only, it's an empty box
I guess the 5 fixture plates I've purchased from SMW as well as multiple MOD vises came from that "advertising only empty box"...
