But why does it work so well? What is it about this 1-3-1 defense that disrupts the offense so well? Why try this rather than just regular man defense?
In most BLOB the play is drawn for action to occur on the strong side. The 1-3-1 covers all strong side areas plus a long release option. Weak side action would be a good counter
My guess is the zone portion of the defense allows your players to align in areas that are most effective for them to guard: the 5 defends near basket the 1 denies the perimeter pass. As opposed to drawing a 5 onto the perimeter or a 1 in a post up mismatch.
Regular man defense in such a quick play allows to be screened. This is more of a switch defense without the necessary communication. How you fall into defense is up to the coach. At this point, you're looking for a steal or a 5 second call.
Coach mike can you make more videos like that, it really helps a lot😊
Finally back
What is #4's responsibility after the pass is made?
The defense just matches up on the first pass man to man and tries to switch off the bad matchups later
Will you make some players breakdown? Draymond Green, Andrew Robertson, Jimmy Butler, etc
