Two things you must understand about the Arabic song... The first is that the repetition of a section of the song is called the decision, which is the title of the song to which the singer and composer returns in different forms each time. The second is that the lyrics are not written by the singer himself, but there are great poets who wrote them. And the writer of this song, his name (Morsi Jamil Aziz), was one of the most important Arab poets. The composer is Baligh Hamdi, the most important composer since 1950

    • @amkoraiem
      @amkoraiem 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

The decision القرار is not the repetition of a section, it's the segment of a verse where you go back to the beginning of the scale.
imagine a crescendo that peaks then returns to the low notes. That's the decision.
What you're talking about is "The Handover" where they reach a part of the melody that is more like a rhythm, so they loop at it and wait for the singer to decide either to repeat part of the verse/couplet they were just singing, or initiate the next part of the song at their own pace.

    Let me explain:
She said that before she found her love her life wasn't important for her
She didn't care about any thing
She didn't remember what happened to her yesterday and she didn't care about what will happen tomorrow
Even she didn't care about her daily life
But then she found her love and he could show her the meaning of a beautiful life💜

This song was composed by the oh-so-prolific, legendary, and somewhat wild and scandalous Baligh Hamdi with the lyrics, the poetry, written by Morsi Gamil Aziz. By the time this song was written, Om Kulthum had already established herself as the reigning queen of music. When she sang this in 1969, her age was sixty-something-year-old (assumed her date of birth as 1904, as there are differences in her date of birth).

Whenever I listen to the music of this song, I picture a ballet dancer in a flowy white dress dancing to the music on the water of the Nile under the moon at night.. and with every move of her hands magical lights snap for a split of the second.. the water creates bright circles underneath her steps.. and when the music gets really emotional, she climbs invisible stairs towards the clouds..
And I strongly believe that everyone has their special fantasy about this music

This is probably the most unique song for Um Kulthoum. One of the longest music introduction in her songs that the composer wanted to make it shorter and she refused stating that it is so amazing. Now a days, this music introduction is extremely famous that it is played in clubs.
The uniqueness if this song that after Um Kulthoum was singing top and eloquent poems, this particular song is kinda folklore or peasant style song. It was a huge risk from her side.
Moreover, in this video above, 29:44 she is kinda talking! (We call this style Mawwal) and she refused to do it because it is not her style al all but that was before listening to the music of this part.
Last thing, 21:28 there is another music coming with the original music of the song (i cant describe it) but this music is usually plays in weddings when the bride shows up and the people take her to her seat (zaffa). ( Its like when the bride and her father walk to the aisle in western world). Hence the lovers of the song got married :)

You have good music ears. I’m impressed how you said it reminded of Abdel Halims music when the saxofone started. The composer is the same guy that made Halims song and the saxofonist is in Halims band.

Hey Jay, great job in reviewing Om Kaltthum, she was/is impressive, she was a star, the poets writing her songs were stars, the composers were stars, even every one of her orchestra was stars as well that people can point to and know them by name.
Most of her songs were not only telling a story, but it is also a story by itself, from a song that a poet wrote to her telling her how much torture he feels in her love or how being with her is the hope of his life, or a story about a poet who met the love of his life for the first time after years of leaving each other and how he compressed all these emotions in one song, another song about how a quiescence led to her cooperation with this composer or how much fights she had with another who wanted to end the song on a certain note and she though it is crazy, then the song stopped for years and after a lot back and forth it was back again and became on of the best if not the best in all history, or the times some of her orchestras decides to defy her and go crazy in a unique solo that makes everyone in the stage silent in this surprise, a real drama that affects a lot of people, this, and more is how important she was and is.

What make om kalthom songs lives until this days is not onley her vocal.
It's the golden age she lived in, with legendary singers, legendary poets and composers which made that age as legnd
