    Fun Facts about the V2
1 an breakthrough electronic analog computer called the “mischgeraet” developed to control the guidance fins in the exhaust, it was the only thing fast enough to compensate for the vibration, tank slosh and 5 flight phase changes.
2 the first few V2 (technically A4) took 16000 man hours to build but from the 10,000th onward production man hours was expected to reduce to 4000. That meant 10000 workers could produce 1600 month. (Target was initially 1000/month but raised to 5000/month. Most of the strategic raw materials were being removed eg a plastic fuel tank had been developed. The V2 was cost effective.
3 The LEV-3 guidance system consisted of two gyroscopes and a single PIGA accelerometer that was fairly inaccurate but two new guidance systems both were to be better than 500m accurate. This was SG-66 which had a stablished gimballed platform with accelerometers to null out cross winds. There were 4 test flights. “Vollzirkel” was another guidance system that rode a pencil like conical scan beam and used Doppler and transponders for the fuel cutoff equation. unjamable due to the narrowness of the beam and 60 second only boost phase.
4 The “V” in V2 stood for reprisal (normally translated as vengeance). The intention was to use the V2 as bargaining tool to negotiate an end to bombardment of German cities. In 1941 RAF Bomber Command had been issued the “Area Bombardment Directive” which targeted the geometric centre of German cities with 1000 bomber raids for purposes of “dehousing” and “demoralisation” the terms I used in brackets were the actual sanitised terms for what was terror carpet bombing of civilians.
5 LEV-3 was used to put America’s first astronaut into space, Allen Sheppard and also it first Satellite Explorer because by then it was light, compact and very reliable.
6 The long ranged Winged V2 known as the A4b under went two test flights. Not only did it have a much greater range but it could be manoeuvred on reentry and was expected to be accurate to 80m using transponder based guidance system called Wasserspiegel that was made by laying a giant Wassermann radar on its side.

Hey you shoehorned your anti British sentiments into the above paragraph.. Is it only wrong when the Germans get dehoused? You have to give it to the Brits. They knew what technology to develop to win a war. The Brits are also just about them most ruthless people on the planet. They know how to fight total war.The Germans thought WW2 ineptly for a "master race " Mr Fish. Fun fact :1000 bombers was far more effective then the V1 and V2 program.
