I saw Neil with Crazy Horse on the second night of his 2001 Euro tour . Like Neil often does he played four new songs no one knew. Goin Home , When I Hold You In My Arms , Standing In The Light Of Love and Gateway of Love were those songs. They all stood out and I was really looking forward to the next album . AYP came out the following year and I was so disappointed two of the four songs were missing on the album. I've always liked AYP felt it was underated. I have a bootleg of the concert I was at so that was all I had of those songs for years. Listening to Toast now it's a great record and the AYP songs sound better on Toast . Glad to finally have Standing In The Light Of Love and Gateway of Love. Incidentally Gateway Of Love is listed on the back of AYP just another one of those quirks Neil does.

Yeah I love artists who perform new unreleased songs live while on tour really giving fans something special and more of a reason to see the band live IMO. I’m all for the hits but they get played at every show. Give me something new and unique that I can’t hear anywhere else. When Neil toured before Greendale was released he played the album in its entirety. I loved it but there were concert goers (I won’t call them fans) who complained the whole time that he wasn’t playing “hits”. That’s why people should always read up on what a band plans to do on tour so you’re not caught off guard but also so you can know if something special is going to happen.

"Background noise on a changing sky. Blacked out eyes, got a reason why"--Gateway of Love. Fantastic album. Slow burner. Listen on good headphones.

Sounds like the record company had a high opinion on it and put pressure on him to finally release it

Definitely not the case. Neil owns all his masters. This is solely Neil’s choice as is the same with previous archival releases.

Helo Brendon. I left a comment earlier today and it posted and now it is gone. Is there a reason why my Posts disappear? It has happened previously. Just wondering. Thank Youl
