This looks absolutely _delicious_ ! However, I (along with most people probably) do not own a smoker. Are there any alternative cooking methods that could produce a similar result with more common kitchen appliances?
Thank you ... yes it is delicious! So, I have never tried it this way myself, I would have to test it, however there are two possible ways that I can think of. One is using some sweet liquid smoke, like apple wood in a pan with some water in the lower grill of the oven, set it to 425 degrees F and layer the cubes of bread the same way as in the video on the upper oven rack. Bake until the bread is crispy on the outside and you can smell the apple wood smoke. And then follow the rest of the instructions. Add maybe 1 tsp of liquid smoke to the custard and then put in the oven at 300 degrees F and bake until the thermometer reads 165 degrees F. Alternatively, maybe an inexpensive smoker box that works indoors or if you have a grill it can work on that as well. Again, I have not tested those methods, but I think they would give you the flavor.
