I remember finding this one interesing when I discovered it on one of the Playstation original Namco Museums. I knew of the home ports for PCE/FC but didn't know the FC one had a whole optional board game!
I see this one on sale quite a bit and I really wanna get it. Back in the day when I first started collecting old games (which I sadly don't have anymore) I had the Odyssey2 game Quest For The Rings. Video Game + Board Game hybrids are weird and these days not all that fun to play... but they make great shelf decor. Fun toys to have.
I always wanted Quest for the Rings as a game collector, but these days it's off the table for me. My collection is already chunky, I don't need to start that Odyssey.
Possibly, though the arcade Genpei Toma Den was one of their bigger hits of the mid-80s for reasons I'll never understand. I think it's just that they were pushing toward the PC Engine at the time and decided to have the arcade version there and something else for the Famicom.
Got my copy today, cost me $50 with shipping with fedex(ugh), amazing litle piece of collection, and was amaze that the figurines are from solid metal.

What a charmingly weird game! And I really love some of those boss sprites!
congratulations on such a cool collection piece!
If I had a wall of nerd stuff that I sat in front of for my videos, it would be front and center.

I always wondered if Namco took this approach when converting Genpei Toma Den on the Famicom because Konami already put out Getsu Fuma Den.

This one could be one of the better Namco attempts at RPGs, especially comparing with the Birthday crapshoots

Congratulations on the cool swag.
You can lose, as I find out myself. There's a timer, and if you just spend too much time leveling and fighting monsters, the game can just be over.
